Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 957: Extra power
"An enhanced dragon's breath, huh?" Rain thought.
It didn't even look like a breath anymore… it truly looked like the dragons were firing nitrogen liquid. Rain should have expected as much from ten thousand-year-old dragons… in any case, Rain grabbed the ominous sword again wondering if that could absorb those attacks… if it could drain the essence of those beasts on the roots, it was worth testing.
"The only issue is that if it doesn't work, I will be a goner…" Rain thought.
Rain didn't have time for hesitation… the dragons were surrounding him, so he used Impulse on the lines of ice created by their attacks and sliced them with the sword… colder ice was supposed to be tougher, but the sword passed through those like it was butter.
"I guess this is a good sign," Rain said.
"What happened to be cautious about using powers of unknown origin?" Larisa asked.
"I can worry about that once again when the world isn't about to become a giant ice scream for dragons," Rain said. "I am not willing to let my family and friends become the toppling of the said ice cream."
"I am not complaining that all of a sudden you are being pretty self-serving," Larisa shrugged. "I am just confirming that you didn't forget all that."
The ice dragons got close enough and stopped flying in the air to look at Rain in their fury… it was nerve-wracking, but then took a good look at them as well.
The ice dragons that looked at Rain had the traditional features of dragons, yet there was something distinctly eerie about them. Their appearance was different, with their imposing stature and the classical dragon-like physique. However, it was their eyes that set them apart. Their gazes lacked irises, giving an otherworldly impression, as their eyes were entirely blue.
This eerie blue glow seemed to emanate from within, contributing to their chilling and dangerous presence.
Moreover, the dragons' bodies seemed to pulse with veins glowing in the same intense blue hue. These veins appeared to carry massive amounts of energy, pulsating visibly beneath their icy skin. As they moved, the air around them turned frigid, causing the moisture in the atmosphere to freeze, creating a shower of delicate ice flowers cascading around the vicinity.
This ethereal blue glow and the way their presence affected the environment around them added an unsettling quality to their appearance, intensifying the sense of danger and power they exuded.
As soon as Rain showed the ominous blade, the aura around the ice dragons grew more intense, and Rain could see the annoyance in their eyes as well… he didn't like using swords all that much, but he would have to make it do with that. Still, it looked like the ice dragons came up with their battle plan faster than Rain… incredibly and suspiciously faster at that.
The ice dragons seemed to reach a decision, and their actions were tinged with an air of certainty. Rain couldn't discern if their actions were born out of fear towards him or the ominous sword he wielded, though. Nevertheless, the dragons initiated a quick and coordinated movement, circling around the area with incredible speed, their wings flapping forcefully.
In a display of their formidable power, the ice dragons unleashed their super-concentrated ice breath, directing it toward the ground below. The sheer intensity and focus of their magical attack caused an immediate reaction. The surrounding terrain succumbed to their magic as the ground rapidly froze, encompassing the area in a powerful and thick layer of ice.
Not content with merely freezing the ground, the dragons intensified their efforts. Their coordinated actions resulted in the emergence of a towering ice wall, rising up from the frozen earth until the frozen clouds. The wall stood as a formidable barrier, a testament to the dragons' magical prowess and their ability to manipulate the elements to their will.
This barrier served as both a defensive structure and a way to be sure that Rain wouldn't escape.
"At least now you know that the other dragons won't get in the way," Nigel said.
The ice dragons kept flying around in circles but soon fired their ice breath toward Rain, he moved to the other side of the trap with Impulse, but that didn't matter at all, because the temperature in the cage was dropping, and Rain could feel his feet freezing as well…
Without any other choice, Rain used Impulse on the walls, but even those began to freeze his boots and eventually his fingers… that wasn't a good sign. In the end, Rain jumped upward and then summoned some cristal on his feet to protect him from it, and that worked… but soon the ice dragons fired a blast of ice toward him all at once.

"They really want to keep their distance… they aren't that confident in their power, huh?" Rain thought and then began to fly in circles while controlling the crystal boots.
When Rain flew toward them, the monsters changed the shape of their breath and immediately froze the air, creating an instantaneous thick ice wall. They truly didn't want him to get close to them, or perhaps it was the sword they were afraid of.
"Hey, guys, you're really nailing this whole 'chilling' thing! But don't freeze up now; this dance is just getting started. Let's see some other cooler moves!" Rain said while grinning.
"I am not sure it is the right time to taunt them… they are being cautious, not fearful of you," Isa said. "They can tell that the sword was what made the root escape."
Before long, the ice wall fell apart into countless shards and for a moment, it looked like crystals were raining in the area. Soon enough, the dragons began to use their ice breath again toward the sky. Rain jumped to the side and avoided the hit, but they didn't try to correct their aim… they completely sealed the trap by freezing the clouds even more…
