Chapter 82: We are sisters
"...your what?" Seravax asked, wondering if his ears were working correctly.
Did he truly hear a mortal tell him, a divine being, to become his Divine Executioner?
That thought was so absurd that Seravax didn’t even consider entertaining it. So the only explanation... was that he had misheard.
A weird thing — but more believable.
But Ethan didn’t quite agree with him.
"My Divine Executioner. You won’t regret it, believe me," Ethan said with a serious tone.
Something that completely baffled Seravax. How could a simple mortal be so sure of himself? Especially when talking to a god?
And that’s when Seravax finally noticed something — or rather, his mind registered something he hadn’t paid enough attention to... since the beginning, Ethan had never acted like how a mortal should act in front of a god.
He didn’t look at him in awe, didn’t kneel, didn’t beg for a blessing, didn’t tremble in reverence — none of the ways a normal mortal should behave in front of divinity.
Instead... he was looking at him with calm eyes. He was looking at him like an equal. No — worse — there were moments where Seravax felt that this mortal actually thought he was superior to him.
When these thoughts fully settled into his mind, he paused.
He was someone who had lived for thousands of years. He had experienced many things. He had heard stories of mortals who could slay gods.
And now, taking all that into account, his attitude shifted subtly. He no longer looked at Ethan as a mere mortal, as someone to scam or just someone to vent his feelings to.
Now he looked at him with eyes that judged and evaluated. With seriousness.
Ethan noticed the shift and smiled.
"Are you ready to talk now, Seravax?" he asked calmly.
Seravax didn’t respond for a few seconds. Then, slowly, he got up from the bed and walked toward the black-flamed throne beside it. He sat upon it — and in that moment, his entire presence changed.
Now, in front of Ethan, stood no simping demon... but an Archdemon.
The Archdemon of Pride.
"You have my attention, Ethan Yagami," Seravax said, his voice echoing with power through the realm.
Ethan looked at Seravax sitting there on his throne, and a thought surfaced in his mind. He already had a throne and a realm for his name The Merchant...
But nothing yet for The Allholder.
’Well, anyway, I’m not planning to do the same for Allholder,’ Ethan thought to himself before pulling a simple wooden chair from his inventory.
It was plain. Completely unremarkable. Nothing stood out about it.
And yet, Seravax’s eyes widened the moment he saw it. "Where did you get this?" he asked, surprise cutting into his voice.
Ethan sat down casually and shrugged. "I don’t remember anymore. Sometimes I buy things and forget about them."
"But that’s not the point here. Tell me — will you be my Divine Executioner?" Ethan asked again, tone serious.
"Stop this—!"
"What’s your price?" Ethan immediately interrupted.
"Tell me what I can give you to make you accept. Anything," Ethan said, pausing to let the weight of his words land.
"Just ask."
Seravax went quiet. He looked at Ethan for a long time, eyes serious... and then:
"...Fine."
He accepted. Because he remembered — Ethan couldn’t lie right now. That fact alone made him curious.
"What I want is simple. I just want the love and devotion of Seris. I want to be with her forever and live happily without anyone interfering," Seravax said, voice firm, wish laid bare.
A simple wish... or so it sounded. But it was anything but.
The first hurdle was getting this so-called Seris to fall in love with this simp. The second was ensuring that no one — be it angel, demon, or some other damned thing — could threaten that peace.
Each of those seemed... nearly impossible.
"Even if Seris deceived you? Even if she’s the one who put you here to serve her own agenda?" Ethan asked, trying to make him see reason.
But—
"Yes. Even if she did all that... all I want is her," Seravax answered without hesitation, his voice absolute.
Ethan was stunned.
"Why? I mean, I don’t understand..."
Seravax smiled.
"She was the one who made me feel something other than fear — fear of being betrayed, of being hunted, of being crushed by my own status and duty."
"She was the one... even if she didn’t know it. She was my light in a world of endless darkness. She was my sun, in a universe always devouring itself."
"And I... I couldn’t stop myself from chasing the sun — even knowing it might burn me along the way."
"So I’m prepared for anything."
"What if you found another sun? One that wouldn’t burn you no matter how close you came? Why be this stubborn?" Ethan asked, trying again to change his mind.
But Seravax was no longer following logic.
He was following his heart.
And you cannot reason with that organ. It doesn’t work that way.
So, seeing that Seravax wouldn’t change his mind, Ethan sighed with quiet exasperation.
’Is it even a good idea to make this guy my Divine Executioner? He’s too unreliable.’ Ethan couldn’t help but think that — but he didn’t dwell too long on it.
Because everything he could give...
He could take back.
So—
"Fine. If that’s what you want... so be it," Ethan finally decided.
"I’m not someone who manipulates the feelings of others. All I can do is give you the means to reach your goal... and the protection you’ll need along the way."
Ethan paused, watching Seravax absorb his words — and once he saw that he had...
"Do you agree?"
"First... what’s your deepest secret?" Seravax asked.
At that, Ethan grinned.
"Isn’t it obvious already?"
He crossed one leg over the other, curled his hands together, and rested them on his knee. A deep, strange and mysterious aura suddenly wrapped around him — then slowly, he spoke.
"I am a Miracle Invoker."
...
Meanwhile, in the capital of the Castria Kingdom, inside one of the most luxurious inns, three otherworldly beautiful women sat together.
Esmeray. Mei. Ellie. freewebnøvel_com
"So you two are rich," Esmeray said, looking curiously at the other two. Their aura — their beauty — it matched hers in a way that genuinely surprised her. She had supreme talent. She had all her summons. But even with all that...
She didn’t feel like she could win against them.
’Master... careful,’ Dracula whispered in her mind, suddenly uneasy. He was afraid.
It felt like they were sitting in front of a sun too hot to approach... and a darkness that wanted to devour everything.
’I know,’ Esmeray responded, eyes shifting between Mei and Ellie.
And seeing such contrast between them — one bright and fiery, the other silent and gloomy — she couldn’t help but ask,
"Are you two friends who climbed together?"
At her question, Mei grinned.
"Nah..."
"...We’re sisters."
