Carter counted the coins in his hand. He didn’t find any pound coins last night, only shillings and pennies.
Pounds were gold coins.
Shillings were silver coins.
And pennies were copper coins. This was why in this world, shillings were also called coppers as a slang.
Carter had 71 shillings and several pennies. Twenty shillings were one pound. So if he rounded it up, he would have 3 pounds, 11 shillings, and lots of pennies.
’Should be enough to find Cloud Powder and Blood Seeds.’
Cloud Powder was crushed grains of a tall straight tree similar to a bamboo. In this world, this tree was called White Seam because of the white lines on its green body.
Blood Seeds were seeds in a red thorn fruit. Its flesh was red and its seeds were blood red. The locals called it Blood Sausage because of its shape and colors.
Carter carried his large Brewer’s Chest on his back. He attracted quite a few looks because of how ridiculous he looked.
They probably wondered why a small man like him could carry such a big item.
He walked around the market and visited every vendor and shop that might have useful ingredients.
He didn’t find White Seam or Blood Sausage right away. But he found quite a few other ingredients that might be useful to brew concoction.
’This black fruit is definitely a Grave Kiss. Its black seed has a good anti-poison property. It is useless to make the antidote for Fontaine but I can use it to make a general antidote.’
"How much for this?" Carter asked.
The vendor was a kind old woman.
"That’ll be one penny for a basket."
’This cheap?’
Carter didn’t show any emotions outside and kept his cool.
"I’ll take five baskets."

’This small long pea seems to be the Monkey Finger Pea. But I have to verify it.’
Carter found another interesting ingredient in a vegetable vendor.
"Can I open one to check?" Carter asked the man.
"You touch it, you buy it." The man waved at him dismissively.
"Fine then. I’ll buy one first to check."
Turns out, it really was the Monkey Finger Pea. It had a really good antibacterial property within it and could be made into a good potion to deal with general infections.
The inside of the long elongated pod were several spherical green peas.
"This is good. I’ll take five." Carter said.
"Three pennies for a dozen."
"Goodbye then."
"Wait! Two pennies!"
"Uh huh! I’m going over there." Carter pointed to the opposite shaft.
"Fine. Half a penny for a dozen."
"I’ll take ten."

Carter didn’t have any luck in finding White Seam or Blood Sausage and kept finding other miscellaneous ingredients.

’This shiny blue bean is actually very good in promoting mental capacity, even if only for a while. I bet I can sell this thing for a lot of money.’
Then Carter arrived at a flower shop. It was the only shop he didn’t visit yet. Flowers could be used as ingredients too so maybe he would get lucky.
He froze at the door because he saw a small bamboo in a pot at the corner. It had white streaks on it.
’First ingredient is acquired.’
Carter approached the seller. She was a young woman with brown hair.
The noise of his wooden chest colliding with the floor caused the woman to jump up.
"Terribly sorry, Miss. I didn’t mean to scare you." Carter took his hat off.
The woman patted her chest to soothe herself. "It’s alright. I’m just easily scared. You want some flowers?"
"Actually, I want that." Carter pointed at the White Seam pot.
"That? I’m afraid it’s not for sale. That is a gift from my friend. It actually is a very rare plant in a faraway land. I can’t give it to you."
"I forgot to introduce myself. Doctor Emmanuel Hugo. I need that plant to produce medicine for one of my patients. It is very important. I can pay you handsomely."
"Hello, Dr. Hugo. I am Carla. Unfortunately, I still cannot sell it to you. It isn’t about money either but I can’t just get rid of something my friend gave me."
"I understand." Carter nodded.
’I guess I have to sneak in at night and wreck the place then.’
As Carter picked his chest up and left, the front door opened. The bell above rang nicely.
"Carla! How have you been?" Amelia froze when she saw Carter in the shop.
"Dr. Hugo?"
"Miss Orchard! You’re here to buy flowers?"
Amelia shook her head and saw the puzzled look on Carla.
"What’s wrong?"
"You know him?" Carla gestured toward Carter.
"Yeah. He’s Doctor Emmanuel Hugo. He’s the physician that got the job in the Desilet household."
"That 100 pound job?!"
Carla examined Carter again. She bowed down.
"I’m sorry for my rudeness, Dr. Hugo."
"Please..." Carter caught her. "You didn’t do anything wrong."
"No. Actually... I thought you were a scammer or something. So I didn’t want to sell you the pot."
"Haha. Don’t worry, Miss Carla. I know I can look very unfriendly sometimes."
Luckily with Amelia’s presence, Carla decided to sell the White Seam plant to Carter. She even wanted to give him the plant for free but Carter refused.
He gave her 5 shillings just for the plant. The girl almost fainted. She would normally get this much after an entire day in the shop.

Then he turned to Amelia. "Miss Orchard. I’ll take my leave. I’ll see you at nine. Miss Fontaine needs our care."
"I won’t be late, Dr."
Carter left the shop. The bell above rang nicely.
"He seems like a nice guy. Although a little bit weird." Carla said to Amelia.
"I don’t really know him that much. I only met him yesterday." Amelia shrugged.
The girl then grabbed Carla’s hands. She geeked out and her voice became higher.
"I heard Brian just proposed to you?"
Carla showed her the ring on her finger. He gave me a silver ring!"
The two girls jumped up and down in the shop.
Carter froze mid-step and turned his head back to the shop.
"That ring... It has Negative Energy on it."
