Chapter 168: Upgrading Daoist Arts! 2

However, this technique was, in the end, not universally applicable. Especially now that he was back in the sect and not out in the wilds, he needed to be more high-profile here than elsewhere, lest he be pulled into the many vortexes of trouble that existed within a cruel demonic sect.

This brought him squarely to his third Daoist Art, which was the first unique immortal art on his list that he had upgraded back during the War of Annihilation on the Black Heaven Sect, the Dao Seeing Eye.

This was an extremely high-level art that granted his eyes multiple attributes, including Truesight, Lock-On, Illusion Perception, Enemy Scanning, 360-degree view, and many more. It even allowed him to see the weak points and flaws of constructs, regardless of whether they were living or dead, energy or matter.

However, back at the second realm of qi, Foundation Establishment, it drained so much of his magic power that it could only last about five to seven seconds at most when used at full power.

Before upgrading, Li Ling naturally decided to explore the power of this skill at Entry level now that he was at the perfection of the third realm with voluminous Dharma Power, which, although the quantity was roughly the same as his Magic Power when at Foundation Establishment Perfection, was of a different quality.

He activated the Dao Seeing Eye and immediately two changes occurred. The first was from an external point of view, which Li Ling could only see by using his Dharma Sense, where his previously dark blue eyes were now kaleidoscopic, possessing a white background with a seven-colored brilliance around his pupils, featuring the colors red, blue, green, gold, brown, purple, and silver.

The intensity hadn’t exactly changed, but its drain had reduced significantly. Li Ling still felt like someone had dug a hole in his Golden Core and was allowing the contents within to pour out like an opened faucet, but it was offset by the quality of his Dharma Power and the spinning of his core, which replenished the spent energy even as it left, though not at the same speed.

As such, it took about twenty seconds before he felt that he was getting into the red line and switched off the technique, which was more than double the previous time he could spend at the second realm.

He was quite satisfied with this, but at the same time, he was unsure. The use cases of the Dao Seeing Eye were rare, because it kind of overlapped with the Infinite Slaughter System’s scanner, which could give him intimate details about people that revealed even their hidden intentions.

Apart from the time where he used it to break through the formation protecting the Fire Heart Sect, he hadn’t actually found many uses for it. In battle, it consumed far too much to be utilized for even a second, and against the foes he typically faced who required him to utilize such a method, it would not be the best option.

Li Ling rubbed his chin and mused that the Dao Seeing Eye was more of an investigative tool than a combat one. In a joking manner, he felt that the Dao Seeing Eye was extremely similar to the Detective Vision of that video game franchise featuring the Dark Knight.

Looking at his remaining balance of Slaughter Points, he did some rough calculations and estimates, then decided to go ahead with it anyway. There was no logical reason to keep any of his unique immortal arts at the Entry level when they could possibly yield so much more power and utility.

1,500 Slaughter Points were paid and the Dao Seeing Eye advanced to the Advanced level from the Entry level, and as expected, Li Ling was immediately inundated with a huge torrent of information. Previously, when upgrading, it took twelve hours to upgrade from the former Qi Seeking Technique to the Dao Seeing Eye, but this time, it took a full day to go from Entry to Advanced.

This also had nothing to do with his mental capacity; it had to do with the speed at which the Infinite Slaughter System fed the information to him. Li Ling guessed that it was like a quantum computer slowly producing the content after making calculations, which made sense to him as these immortal arts were made up on the spot by the system.

The Advanced level of the Dao Seeing Eye brought a new ability, which was something Li Ling decided to call Dimensional Perception. It basically allowed him to see into other dimensions and worlds with his eyes, but not in a grandiose sense like overlooking the multiverse.

As it was now, he could, for example, look into anyone’s void ring and see what items they had hidden away, or peer into the void and see who was crossing through or hiding within. While the latter was similar to the method of travel he gained with his Void Walk ability from the Tai Xu Mysterious Method, they actually didn’t clash.

The Void Walk only looked into subspace, while Dimensional Perception could peer even into the spirit realm and see ghosts or the undead.

Despite this, Li Ling was left scratching his head because the use cases for this ability had once again not increased by much. He wasn’t in an area plagued by ghosts or the undead, and even though those Hungry Ghost fellows were called as such, they were his allies more than his enemies, not to mention he had other tools to deal with them.

As for peering into void rings, that was exciting for arson and robbery, but he wasn’t that type of transmigrator with a system who needed resources to grow. The Infinite Slaughter System only wanted him to kill, and it would fund everything else for him.

Li Ling sighed and looked at the new cost of 2,000 Slaughter Points and decided to pay it regardless. Since he had committed to the idea of investing in his unique immortal arts, he would go all the way.

After another ’learning period’ of two whole days, forty-eight hours, he opened his eyes with a strange look, his lips twitching rapidly. He thought slowly before naming this new ability ’Illusion Eyes’, and it was exactly as anyone on Earth would think.

He could now, through visual connection, place another person under an illusion and paralyze them, with the success rate tied to the strength of his mind versus theirs. So if it was someone with a stronger Sea of Consciousness, especially those in the higher levels of qi cultivation, it was a no-go.

However, body cultivators were as naked as babies before this, even if their realm reached the seventh tier like Zhen Xueren, unless they smartly cultivated Sea of Consciousness-enhancing methods on the side.

Li Ling didn’t think too much about it, curious as to what the next stage would bring as he paid the price of 2,500 Slaughter Points.

Four days later, Li Ling opened his eyes to show another expression of near helplessness, because this new ability he got...

Well, he decided to name it ’Daoist Art Replication’, and once again, its name gave it away. By watching the flow of spiritual energy in another person’s body, Li Ling could replicate the flow within his body to unleash the same Daoist Art they did without needing to have the foreknowledge of it.

Of course, this was still subject to limitations. He couldn’t, for example, copy Bai Yegui’s Daoist Arts because they required yin spiritual energy from his cultivation method to power them...

Ah, wait, no, he actually could, Li Ling realized with a pause. He currently wielded Grandmist Dharma Power, which was the source of all the elements, able to break them down and also transform into any element necessary.

So that was a bad example. A better one would be his own Tai Xu Mysterious Method, which required a requisite physique before it could be used. If Li Ling encountered something like that, he wouldn’t be able to replicate the Daoist Art in question no matter how he tried.

The final payment came as 3,000 Slaughter Points, and the Dao Seeing Eye achieved Perfection after a lengthy period of eight days, and the final ability left him deeply speechless.

This final ability he decided to unhesitatingly name ’Dao Sight’, because it allowed him to witness the Daos and Rules that others had comprehended, and possibly copy them for himself if he played his cards right. It didn’t even stop there, which was why he was speechless, because Li Ling could even see the Rules and Daos that others had yet to fully comprehend or were walking the path of.

While he couldn’t copy in-progress or unknown Daos from others, the sheer ability to possibly copy from those who did have them was astronomical in value, far more useful than the 9,000 Slaughter Points he had paid in total to upgrade the Dao Seeing Eye to Perfection from the Entry level.

Indeed, one should never use their limited worldview to measure everything and always be certain, because you could always learn new things and be surprised by the outcomes the world put forth!
