Infinite Slaughter System: I Kill, Therefore I Ascend!-Chapter 226: Aftermath, The Tournament Winner! 2
The spectators felt as if they had sat on a roller coaster, unable to even display anything but numbness at this point.
First, they thought Li Ling died to Wang Feng, but it was just a ploy and Wang Feng got brutally executed by Li Ling. Then they thought Li Ling had killed Bei Dongshi after piercing his chest, with a civil war about to erupt, but Bei Dongshi was still alive.
Then Li Ling fought Bai Yegui; they thought Li Ling had been killed by Bai Yegui, but that was a ploy too. Then they watched Li Ling kill Bai Yegui, and just as a new round of civil war was about to erupt, it turned out that Bai Yegui was still alive.
What the heck!
Many disciples of the various layers of the sect hadn't noticed it before, but they realized that the most tumult and chaos came from the actions of that trio, Li Ling, Bei Dongshi, and Bai Yegui!
While most others felt that there was trouble on the horizon, the elders and upper echelons of the sect couldn't help but have a bad premonition, as if this was a small taste of what was to come with these three in the cultivation world.
So… everything should be over, right?
Wrong!
Because despite facing a Path Saint who was more than three major realms above him, Li Ling did not show any fear nor did he lose momentum, his smile thinning coldly.
"May I ask why esteemed Path Saint dared to interfere with our match?" Li Ling asked, glancing directly into Hei An's sockets.
Hei An didn't take any offense, nor did her expression change, simply wearing a smile of amusement.
"Because I can. Because I am stronger than you. And because if a mere you can break the rules repeatedly, then so can I."
Li Ling remained silent at that for more than a minute, his calculated retorts dying in his throat because he knew they would come out as petulant whining in the face of such an answer. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
As such, he simply smiled amiably and nodded. "Path Saint Hei An is correct; how could I not have factored that in?"
Li Ling turned to float down to the ruined arena, waving a hand back. "Oh, and tell Old Bai that he owes me one!"
Saying this, the young man descended to hover over the magma pool, scanning with his powerful Dharma Sense for traces of the Divine Deva Overseer. After searching for a bit, Li Ling found him in a hole near the boiling magma, pulling the unconscious fellow out, whose body was half destroyed.
"Tsk, tsk, which brute did this to our precious referee? No sense of respect for their elders!" Li Ling vehemently chastised, making many lips twitch.
Li Ling lifted the Divine Deva Overseer to the side like a sack of potatoes, not bothering to even use the Restoration Spell on him, simply puppeteering the fellow to raise his hand and declare:
"Winner of the final match and the entire annual tournament, the awesome Patriarch of the Infinite Slaughter Li Clan!"
Li Ling tossed the body to the Divine Deva section and clapped his hands for himself quite loudly, but none save those from the Asura Blood Path clapped along with him. The other paths mostly had lost, confused, or gloomy expressions, realizing that there was trouble brewing, especially the Divine Devas who had ruled the sect for millennia upon millennia.
"Li Ling, wait."
The voice of Ming Yue sounded out, low and calm, but everyone was able to hear it as they turned their heads to look upward, beholding the Sect Master who was standing up from his throne with his arms behind his back.
Li Ling also stopped, because while he dared to talk back to even Path Saints, that was only because of his fearlessness, his perception of his own value, his trump cards, and especially because of the indulgence by this person.
So when he called Li Ling to a halt, the young man had no illusions or qualms about doing just that, standing there with a peaceable expression on his face like a good student.
"Indeed, you have lived up to the expectations of everyone who came to witness this tournament. The annual tournament of the Lower Six Paths occurs every year, and for us in the middle layer and above, that can be one cultivation session," Ming Yue began, speaking resonantly.
"Frankly speaking, none of us expect those in the lower paths who still track days, months, and years to find such an event relevant, and the highest person of cultivation here should have been the referee, but almost the entire sect came out to witness this particular tournament."
Ming Yue glanced at Li Ling pointedly. "It goes without saying that the reason is purely because of you."
Li Ling nodded in response, showing that he was aware of this, while Ming Yue glanced over to the Seven Sins Sect True Inheritors. "Even those from our closest ally and sister sect came over to take a look, because the prospect of what you represent is very important for us for reasons I can't disclose yet."
Ming Yue nodded to the Grand Elder of the Seven Sins Sect who came as a protector for their True Inheritors, and the Grand Elder nodded back with a solemn expression.
Ming Yue then returned his focus to the arena grounds. "But during this tournament, we have witnessed some of the best talents to emerge in our Lower Six Paths within the last ten thousand years at the very least, especially all at once within just one event."
Ming Yue glanced at Shi Gaolin. "A Hungry Ghost Path disciple who has mastered the Manifestation Realm of Weapon Attainment and can manifest his Avatar onto his blade."
Ming Yue turned to Cao Xian. "A True Human Path disciple who has mastered the Human Way Simulacrum."
Ming Yue's eyes flicked to Shen Jian. "A Divine Deva Path disciple who has mastered the Wings of Judgment and possesses his own unique Daoist art."
Ming Yue then glanced at the area where Hu Lili lay, receiving treatment from her people. "A Wild Beast Hall disciple who has dug out the full potential of her bloodline and is perfectly compatible with it, able to display 120% of its power at all times."
Ming Yue then turned to the distance, where Bei Dongshi stood silent, still recuperating. "A Desolate Hell Path disciple with the ability to manipulate Karma deftly and even summon creatures of the Underworld."
Ming Yue then looked down to the peak of the middle layer, where Bai Yegui lay in a coma. "Another Hungry Ghost Path disciple who has a unique physique that perfectly matches his path and even has spatial talent."
Ming Yue then turned his gaze to Li Ling finally. "And then there's you, the one who stands above them all, having perfected multiple third-realm Daoist arts, possessing multiple unique Daoist arts, having spatial talent, and having mastered three rules at the third realm of cultivation."
"The sect changed its tournament rules and style to limit those entering the middle layer from 32 to 8, aiming to only allow the most elite disciples per batch to go, and for our first attempt at this new system, we have produced absolutely overwhelming results!"
The audience, who had been silent up until now, felt their hearts churn as they finally had time to breathe and digest what Ming Yue had said.
Indeed, it was like watching a movie. While watching it, you were always captivated by new events and didn't have time to consider old elements in the movie or the entire movie as a whole, but once you left the cinema and got home, you would have time to review what you had seen and the quality of it.
And with Ming Yue doing a review, those seated here realized just how crazy what they had witnessed was, a definite era-defining moment in the history of the cultivation world and definitely in the history of the sect!
"We did have some losses, especially with the death of a useful talent like Wang Feng, but since your hall did not file a complaint and since your overall value far exceeds him, it shall be overlooked."
Ming Yue then glanced at Li Ling pointedly. "But Bei Dongshi and Bai Yegui cannot be killed by you after this event. Is that clear, Li Ling?"
Li Ling raised his eyebrows, wondering why the Sect Master felt the need to say this. Did the fellow misunderstand? Li Ling only killed for Slaughter Points, not because he was a sicko, and if Bei Dongshi and Bai Yegui escaped his hands, it didn't mean he would chase them to the ends of the earth.
"Indeed, Sect Master, I will adhere to your commands!" Li Ling responded with cupped fists in respect.
Ming Yue nodded with satisfaction, then got to the point, dropping a bomb on the entire sect.
"Good, now that my review is done, it is time to get down to why I stopped you from leaving."
Ming Yue removed his hands from behind his back and made a 'come over' gesture to Li Ling.
"Li Ling, henceforth, you are my Fifth Personal Disciple, with the official Daoist title of Demon Emperor!"
