Chapter 367: Weapon

BAM!

She froze mid-sob. Her posture straightened unnaturally.

"Hehehe."

"....?!!!"

Leonardo and Valerie turned their heads to Maria, their eyes wide open in shock and disbelief.

"Just the death of one three-eyed creature, and you three completely dropped your guard." She looked up at them. Her eyes were gone—replaced by pools of white, lifeless void.

"You? You?" Valerie was stunned, unable to comprehend the possession.

Maria opened her palm, and a long, thin needle appeared. With a flick of her wrist, she sent it flying towards Valerie with deadly speed.

"This???"

Due to the trauma she had just experienced, Valerie, a God-rank warrior, was a fraction of a second late to react.

BAM!!!!

Leonardo’s sword smashed into the needle just in time. The collision was so forceful it sent the weapon bouncing back to the sender. Maria caught it effortlessly between two fingers.

"Oh... Seems I will deal with you first."

BAM!!!

The ground beneath Leonardo instantly cracked. Dark smoke burst out from the fissures, wrapping around Leonardo’s leg like living tendrils, rooting him in place as it started expanding all over his body, binding him.

"You?!! What are you doing?!!" Leonardo yelled in rage, struggling against the shadowy bonds.

"Nothing."

Maria raised the needle in her hand. She turned the point inward, placing it an inch from her right eye.

"You? No... Don’t do it!!" Valerie yelled, her eyes wide with terror.

BAM!!

Maria plunged the needle into her eye socket. There was a sickening squelch as she pulled it out, bringing the eyeball with it.

"....?!!!"

Sunny frowned deeply, revulsion warring with curiosity.

Maria moved the needle to her second eye and plunged it in again. She ripped it out. The two eyes hung from her sockets by the optic nerves, blood flowing down her face like tears of red oil.

"No!! Maria, stop!!!" Valerie screamed.

"Stop it, you!!" Leonardo snapped at Valerie, his voice desperate. "That is no longer Maria!!! That is a demon! You must get yourself together, or you’ll become its victim—"

Leonardo froze.

He saw the needle. It was sticking out of Valerie’s forehead. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

His eyes widened in shock. He turned his head back to Maria, watching as her mutilated body dropped to the ground, dead.

"No," he muttered, the word heavy with defeat.

Sunny watched as the smoke flew again, entering the needle in Valerie’s forehead. The next moment, the needle moved on its own, plunging all the way into her skull with a wet crunch.

"Hehehehe... You lowlifes in this low realm are so weak."

Valerie spoke, her voice changing pitch. She slowly got to her feet, her eyes turning that same lifeless white.

She walked towards the bound Leonardo, stepping over Maria’s corpse without a glance. She placed her hand on his cheek, a gesture that was mocking in its tenderness.

"You are so strong. Even without saying anything, I know you’re the leader of this team," she said, leaning in close, bringing her mouth to his neck. "I need both of you. As the strongest, you two can get me what I want."

She plunged her teeth into Leonardo’s neck.

"AHHHH!!"

Leonardo screamed in agony as Valerie started sucking his essence and blood.

The memory was ending. The world was fading. But before it did, Sunny moved his gaze around one last time. He turned his head back to the two, only to find Valerie stopped mid-feed.

She turned her head. She looked directly at the empty space where Sunny’s consciousness was floating. Her white eyes locked onto his.

"...?!"

"Why are you still here?!!!"

____

[Present.]

"AHH!!"

Sunny gasped in shock, violently ripping his hand away from Leonardo’s skull. He stumbled back, sweat rolling down his face, his heart hammering against his ribs.

"He discovered me? How.... How is that possible?" He asked in shock, staring at his trembling hand. He was viewing a memory—a recording of the past. For the entity to see him meant its perception transcended time itself.

He slowly laid Leonardo’s body on the ground, closing the old man’s eyes, then stood up, his expression hardening.

"He came here for the weapon, but there is nothing there that he’ll want?" He muttered, a frown forming on his face as he paced. "These Heavens are already so powerful? Why would they want that weapon? Is there something in it that they’re after?"

He turned to the destroyed castle, the ruins silhouetted against the darkening sky, and started walking towards it.

"I need to find out... Leonardo even went to the extent of killing all of Matilda’s death fighters... If it hasn’t been for that Nun, he would have killed her too... That proves these Heavens aren’t connected to Lester or Lilith."

He leaped onto a massive boulder, balancing on the precipice as he moved his gaze around the ruins, his mind working through the puzzle.

"He said we’ll meet again at the realms’ alignment? What the hell is that? Do you know?"

{System Level is Too Low.}

’You know... So I have to upgrade then.’ Sunny sighed, irritated by the cryptic response. He leaped off the boulder, landing with a heavy thud in front of an unassuming, jagged rock formation near the foundation of the old castle.

"This must be the room," he muttered.

He waved his hand, channeling a burst of telekinetic force. The huge rock ground against the earth, sliding to the side with a deafening rumble.

"It must be in here."

Sunny crouched down. He placed his palm on the bare earth where the rock had been and applied specific, rhythmic pressure—a code only the Star nation’s royal family would know.

CLICK!!!

BAM!!

The ground before him shuddered and retracted, mechanical gears grinding deep below. A dark, gaping maw opened up, revealing a hidden passage with stone steps descending into the abyss.

"Here we go," he said, the thrill of discovery replacing his earlier fear. He stepped into the passage, the darkness swallowing him.

Without hesitation, the ground closed back up above him, sealing him in.

"Everything about the weapon will be revealed today."
