Chapter 435: Incoming War

[City X — Ten Commandments’ Main Headquarters]

WHOOSH!!!

The sound tore through the ruined hall like a specialized wind spell, displacing the dust and debris that hung in the air.

"Huh?"

"....?!"

The three Ghosts—Madurai, Angelina, and Denton—snapped their heads toward the shattered window. A glowing, spectral figure darted through the opening. It was a small, ethereal Elven Fairy, its wings beating with a hum of pure mana. It hovered before them, its eyes devoid of emotion, acting merely as a conduit.

"This is the Boss’s summon," Angelina exclaimed in surprise, lowering her guard slightly. She recognized the mana signature of Night Ghost.

"Why is it here? Did something happen?" Denton asked, his eyes darting around the perimeter, expecting an ambush.

The Fairy opened its mouth, and Night Ghost’s voice, distorted by distance and magic, projected from it:

"The Master asked me to deliver this message; The four strangers should not be engaged. You all must wait for my return... Some information was left out by the second leader, that’s why. As the Leader, I will make sure she faces punishment for the death of Hunchback Poison."

The Elf finished the transmission and dissolved into particles of light.

"I knew it!" Madurai yelled in rage, his fist slamming into a crumbling pillar. "She did hide something from us!!"

The betrayal stung. Hunchback Poison was one of them, and his death felt like a sacrifice made for a lie.

"What should we do now?" Angelina asked, looking to Madurai for direction.

"For now, we will focus on the Commandments’ hideouts... We must make sure to clear them all out!!" Madurai yelled, his bloodlust flaring again. If they couldn’t kill the strangers, they would burn the Commandments to the ground.

"Hold down your horses, Madurai."

The deep, familiar voice froze the three Ghosts in place. They slowly turned around, their eyes widening.

Walking through the main archway, stepping over the rubble with casual dominance, were Executioner and Patricia. But walking beside them, matching their stride, were Three of the Ten Commandments.

"Huh?"

".....?!!!"

"What the?!"

The three subordinates were dumbfounded. They were staring at a paradox. The leaders of the organization they had just decimated were walking shoulder-to-shoulder with their own commanders.

"Leaders!!"

Seeing the commandments, Zama screamed in anguish. The loyal commander, broken and bleeding on the floor, saw salvation.

"They killed everyone!! Please!! You must avenged us all!!" He yelled, tears mixing with the blood on his face. He believed the ghosts walking with them were prisoners, or perhaps about to be executed.

"...?!"

Patricia and Executioner looked at one another, a silent communication passing between siblings. Even if they had formed a pragmatic alliance with the Commandments, their members had already followed the previous standing orders. They had set fire to almost every Commandment hideout in the city.

This situation was a powder keg. If the Commandments took offense to the slaughter of their subordinates, the alliance would shatter before it began.

’It’s not impossible,’ Executioner thought, his hand slowly moving towards the handle of the dagger on his waist. He prepared to slaughter the three Commandments right there if they made a move. If he can.

The three Commandments looked at one another. Their masks betrayed no emotion. They remained silent for a few heavy seconds, processing the carnage around them.

Then, one of them started walking towards Zama.

"The Commandments are all grateful for your hard work and your will to protect this place," she said, her voice smooth and terrifyingly calm. She stopped directly before the kneeling man.

"Yes! I will forever be loyal!!" Zama muttered, his face pale from blood loss, his eyes shining with the hope of recognition.

"We understand." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

The Commandment placed her gloved hand gently on his head, like a priest blessing a devotee.

"For such dedication, and hard work. I will bestow on you our gratitude."

Her hand started glowing with a volatile, concentrated red energy.

"AHHHHHH!!!!"

Zama screamed in pain, a sound that ripped through his throat as high-pressure primordial energy flooded his cranial cavity. Blood began to flow freely from his ears, nose, mouth, and eyes, boiling from the inside.

"You have served us well," she added softly.

SPLAT.

Zama’s head shattered. Brain matter and bone fragments exploded outward, but surprisingly, not a single drop of blood touched the Commandment’s body. An invisible barrier of energy repelled the gore instantly, leaving her pristine.

"....?!!!"

"Huh?"

The five Ghosts behind were speechless, staring at the Commandment before them in shock.

’What the hell?! These guys are beyond ruthless,’ Madurai thought, a cold sweat breaking on his neck. He moved his gaze to the other two Commandments, who stood completely calm, utterly unfazed by the execution of their own loyalist.

"You just killed him?" Executioner asked in confusion.

He was a man who reveled in violence, a butcher by trade and nature, but even he had a code. You didn’t kill the loyal dogs of your own organization.

The Commandment turned around to face him, her expression hidden behind the sleek black mask.

"Our target bringing him here is to help gather some forces. Which we will use to get information... But we already know the location of our true target, and that removed his usefulness," she said in a calm, transactional tone.

To the Commandments, people were just variables in an equation. Once the variable was solved, it was discarded.

Executioner stared at her for some seconds, processing this alien mindset. He turned his head to the headless body of Zama, then back to her, and nodded slowly.

"Ok..." He said. If they didn’t care about their own men, he wouldn’t waste breath defending them.

"Umm... What is happening here?" Angelina asked, completely lost in the shifting dynamics.

"Yes, are they our enemy or not?" Denton asked, shifting his stance uncertainly.

"They are allies..." Patricia answered, her voice leaving no room for argument.

Executioner stepped forward, his presence filling the room. "And we planned to wipe out the whole City X before midnight."

The three subordinates looked at one another, the reality of the situation sinking in. Madurai sighed heavily and lightly shook his head.

"I don’t think that will be possible," he said.

He raised his hand, recalling his mana. The massive Black Ape behind him roared once before shattering into dust, condensing back into a glowing Golden Card. He stored the artifact in his spatial storage.

"Why is that?" Executioner asked with a raised eyebrow. He didn’t like being told something was impossible.

"The two sons of that old man is here. They are both SS-RANK Summoners, each being one step to enter the SSS-Rank. Not to mention both have Mythical Summons," Madurai explained, his voice grave.

The Marriott family. The pillars of the city.

"They also brought in half of their strength from all close cities. Even leaving the city will be difficult," he added.

The city wasn’t just defended; it was a fortress. The Marriott brothers, Ethan and Patrick, were near-demigods in their own right. Engaging them directly while trying to raze the city was a suicide mission.

"This... It seems we will just have to destroy it from inside out. No matter what, we must succeed!!" Patricia said with determination, her eyes burning. They couldn’t retreat now.

She stared at the three Commandments, calculating the combined power in the room.

"Besides, now we have backup! We will win!!"
