Infinite wealth In A New World-Chapter 441: West Region
[West Region — City M.]
The wind howled softly atop the massive fortifications of City M, the largest and most prosperous metropolis in this realm.
Jessica, the younger daughter of the Dragon Nation and direct bloodline of Falkor, sat on the edge of the city’s huge walls. Her legs dangled over the precipice, and a beautifully crafted long sword was hugged possessively in her arms. Her eyes, sharp and reptilian, scanned the perimeter.
Standing on her both sides, flanking her like an honor guard, were Shadow, Nina, and Alexandra.
The four of them were the Sixth Team set on this mission. Unlike the other teams that had faced immediate combat, their arrival was eerily quiet.
"It seems no one attacked this city," Jessica muttered, staring at the horizon where the sun was beginning to climb, casting long shadows over the undisturbed landscape.
Nina turned around to face the peaceful city behind them. It was a sprawling jungle of glass and steel, teeming with life. She placed her arms on her waist, her gaze fixed on the tallest building at the center of the city. It pierced the clouds, a monolith of power, flying a flag that shouldn’t belong in this world.
It was the Flag of Eldoria, depicting the image of fire and water moving together in harmony.
"Have you guys wondered why Eldoria’s flag is in this realm?" She asked, pointing a finger at the building.
"I think I know why," Alexandra said, her voice soft but knowledgeable. She lowered her gaze to her feet, recalling the history lessons.
"The King visited this world in the past and saved the Head of the Marriott family... And this city was the city he descended on."
She raised her head, and looked over her shoulder at the towering structure.
"That building over there is the headquarters and Home of the Marriott family. Not only that, this city is the biggest of them all, making it the capital." She turned fully around, her expression serious.
"Powerful Summoners are also here... I just hope they don’t mistake us for enemies."
"Ok then, let’s get going, we have no time to lose." Jessica stood up. She held her sword in one hand, her demeanor shifting from observer to commander.
"We need to get ready to welcome the Ruler to this world."
"Yes!"
The three nodded in unison. They all leaped into the air, their movements defying gravity as they bounded from one building to another, heading towards the headquarters with supernatural speed.
__
"Stop."
Nina yelled, her voice cutting through the rushing wind.
With her words, the three stopped mid-motion, skidding to a halt on a rooftop. They turned to her, confused by the sudden order.
"What happened?" Shadow asked with a raised eyebrow, her body tense and ready for a fight.
"There is an invisible wall surrounding the land," Nina explained, her eyes glowing faintly as she analyzed the mana structure in the air.
"It’s just like the wall around the city. But this wall, it covered half of the city... The moment we crossed it, they will detect us," she said.
"So what?! We aren’t enemies!" Shadow yelled at her. To Shadow, stealth was for assassins, and she was done hiding.
"True... But we don’t have to rush in like one," Nina countered, crossing her arms.
Shadow gritted her teeth. She remembered the pain of the past, how Xanor’s corrupted powers had twisted her mind and body, and how Sunny had painstakingly removed that corruption, restoring her to her beautiful self. She owed him everything, even though he was the one that nearly killed her, and Xanor’s powers saved her, she was still grateful.
She clenched her fist, her loyalty burning brighter than her patience.
"I don’t plan to fail the Ruler!" She yelled at them.
"None of us do!"
Jessica’s voice was firm. She stood upright, staring at the building ahead with a regal calmness.
"But Nina is right, we should walk openly, at least, that will reduce their suspicion." She turned to Shadow, her eyes softening slightly. "Remember, we aren’t task to kill these people... We are here for a very important mission, and I don’t need any obstacle in the way," she said.
Shadow exhaled a long breath, forcing her agitation down.
"Ahh! I understand." Shadow shook her head, accepting the logic. She walked to the edge of the roof and leaped down the building, plummeting toward the busy street below.
"Let’s go," Shadow ordered mid-air.
Jessica signaled the others, and they followed, leaping down the building to join her.
BAM!
Shadow hit the pavement a little too hard, dusting up the sidewalk.
"Hey watch where you’re jumping from!" An old man yelled in shock.
Shadow had landed mere inches in front of him, causing him to stagger backwards, clutching his chest.
Shadow caught his hand to steady him, panic flashing in her eyes. She wasn’t used to interacting with civilians without killing them. She forced the muscles of her face to contort into what she thought was a friendly expression.
"So sorry about that, Sir... Sorry," she said, flashing a terrifyingly stiff smile.
"Hmph... Kids of nowadays are just too playful," the man said, grumbling as he adjusted his coat.
He stared at Jessica, Nina, and Alexandra as they landed gracefully behind her. The team of ladies all looked human and ordinary to the naked eye, so he took them as youngsters trying out their new powers in the middle of the street.
"Next time, please go to the Summoner Force’s training ground... At least there, you won’t hurt anyone," he reprimanded them, pointing his walking stick at each of them like a stern grandfather.
"Oh... So sorry." Shadow chuckled nervously, shrinking under the scolding. "Please, where is the right path to the training ground you mentioned?" She asked, trying to maintain the charade.
"Oh, you don’t know?" The man sighed, shaking his head at their ignorance. "Oh well, just head straight, and you will reach a huge gate at the end of this street... That’s it," he directed, pointing with his stick.
"Thank you so much, Sir," Nina thanked him with a polite bow.
"Let’s go," Jessica said, and started walking briskly to avoid further interaction. The rest bid the man farewell and followed behind her.
He stared at them for some moments and chuckled, shaking his head. "Nowadays kids are so full of energy," he said, walking away.
The moment they created distance from the old man, the tension snapped. Jessica, Alexandra, and Nina burst out laughing.
"Huh? Why are you guys laughing?" Shadow asked in confusion, looking between them.
"When you were apologizing to that man, your smile, it was so weird!" Nina yelled through her giggles. She and Shadow were known as Lilith’s Beauties, feared assassins, but she had never seen Shadow look so socially awkward.
"What?! I was just going with the situation!!" Shadow yelled at them, her face flushing red.
"Fufufufu... Yeah, right!! We understand," Jessica said, covering her mouth while laughing elegantly.
"Shut up you three!" Shadow yelled at them, stomping ahead.
The onlookers and store owners simply stared at the four strange women bickering and laughing, and smiled, continuing on their business, unaware that four of the deadliest beings in existence were walking among them.
