Insect Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 399. Theo, RUN!
Lucien, who was going to knock as Alfred had not opened the gate right away, looked at an ominous presence in the right corner.
When he saw the silhouette move forward, his eyes widened as he looked at the beast.
His hands seemed to freeze for a moment before he moved them again.
The mantis was moving beside Theo fast, and its gaze fell on Lucien, who was standing at one spot with a frozen expression.
The mantis’s face lifted up, making its body come up to Theo’s waist before it held onto him with its forelegs.
Theo was confused, but that was when he noticed Lucien too.
With a happy smile, Theo shouted, "BIG BROTHER! Look how big the mantis is now!"
Lucien kept staying the same way until he moved his face up and, with determined eyes, roared out loud.
The whole quiet corridor responded with the roar, and the marching sound of many knights came from all directions.
"THEO! RUN TO ME!" Lucien shouted after getting out of the suppression, and it seemed like he had not heard what Theo had said.
All Lucien could see were the razor-sharp forelegs of the mantis wrapped around Theo’s waist.
Soon, in a matter of seconds, Theo saw multiple knights come toward them with their swords out.
He looked at the situation with confusion. How did things get this out of hand?
"CALM DOWN EVERYONE, it’s just my beast!" Theo spoke with an authoritative voice.
But no matter what he said, their eyes were fixed on the beast beside Theo.
The mantis, with confusion, made some noises again, which got the knights even more scared.
Mantis, can you not use your suppression ability right now? Theo asked in the bond, only for the mantis to reply with more confusion.
It seemed the mind was not as sharp as the body currently.
Before the knights and Lucien could do anything they might regret later, the door of the baron’s study opened and both Alfred and the baron got out.
"Huh." The baron casually stared at the mantis. There was surprise in his eyes, but beyond that, he looked everywhere at the other knights.
"LISTEN UP EVERYONE!" the baron spoke with a voice laced with even more threat than what they felt from the mantis.
"This is the beast that my son owns. Be sure to etch this fact in your eyes. It will be in the castle with Theo all the time." The baron spoke and grinned at the last part before he started moving forward.
While he was midway, the mantis looked at the baron with unknown emotions, but its face kept moving.
Before Theo saw it become a white flashing light, making everyone look away.
Theo’s heart dropped out of his body when he realized that the mantis had used its best ability in the castle.
But when the light was gone, the mantis was latched onto the baron’s body.
"!!!"
Theo felt like he was in a dream. Out of all the individuals, the mantis chose the strongest.
The knights readied their swords, and some even coated their blades with aura until the mantis moved its head up.
"At ease, everyone." the baron spoke as he moved his shoulder up, and the mantis tried its best to get to the place that it was always at.
"It’s only trying to sit." the baron spoke as he helped the mantis finally and grabbed its moss-covered back to let it be stable.
The mantis looked everywhere from up there and made a few sounds that were much higher pitched.
Theo’s horrified gaze met with the baron’s, and when he saw the man smiling toward him with the same prideful eyes, he couldn’t help but think that things were okay.
"But I can understand why you’re acting like this. Kid here is new to aura-like abilities huh." the baron muttered as he looked at the mantis that was very close to him.
Everyone looked at the situation with even more shock than ever. From what angle was this thing a kid?
"Let’s go inside. Lucien, you come too." the baron spoke before he casually took the mantis with him.
When he was entering the gate, the mantis kept moving its neck forward to keep peeking at Theo before it was fully inside the study.
Theo ran inside the study before tapping Lucien’s shoulder, making him come out of it.
Theo looked back and quickly opened the status, making him somewhat shocked.

Hmmm.
Theo didn’t know whether it was a good thing or not, his brother’s level still being lower than his.
’Maybe I was too fast instead’ he thought, but could not tell if it was a good thing or not.
"Good morning, big brother Lucien." Theo spoke while waving his hand once he was seated opposite the baron on the seat.
Lucien looked at him and nodded before getting on the chair opposite the baron.
"You brat, where did my good morning go?" the baron asked as he ate a piece of fruit on the plate in front of him.
"I didn’t wish you? Then good morning, father." Theo spoke with a knowing smile, making the baron chuckle.
Lucien looked at both of them with thoughtfulness. Their relation was a lot better now.
"What did you come here for, Lucien?" the baron asked while staring at his eldest son.
"I want your permission to go into the deeper end of the forest, father." Lucien said and continued, "And I might be staying there for a while too."
The baron didn’t know what to say, but he sighed.
"Just take care of yourself out there, alright? I will not stop you."
Lucien didn’t say anything after that, but he stayed there to listen to Theo. A smile formed on his face.
"I came to show the mantis to you, father. And I am glad he is happy to see you too."
At the name of the mantis, its face moved a few times too before it skittered its legs on the baron’s shoulder and then hopped off to move toward Theo.
Lucien was still on his toes around the mantis, which Theo seemed to notice too.
When Lucien saw Theo staring at him, he opened his mouth to explain.
