Chapter 114: I have my methods

Rory stared at the screen, watching as clusters of flesh and blood burst apart again and again, blooming like grotesque flowers.

The heavy stench of blood seemed to seep straight through the display, clinging to her senses as if it were real. Rory’s stomach churned violently, nausea surging up her throat so fast she nearly gagged. She turned her head slightly, fighting the urge to look away entirely.

"Jasper," she said tightly, her voice strained with barely restrained disgust, "tell Mr. Slade and Senior Ethan Gabriel to kill the two real Rank Ten elites."

Her decision was swift. Absolute.

Anyone who could use members of their own clan as experimental subjects—twisting them into weapons, discarding them when they broke—had already lost every trace of conscience.

People like that weren’t leaders.

They were monsters wearing human skin.

Even if some form of contract existed, Rory would never dare to bind herself to beings like them. Who could say they wouldn’t secretly develop a way to bypass or suppress such a contract—only to stab her in the back the moment her guard dropped?

"Understood," Jasper replied immediately.

He nodded once and sent the order at once, his expression cold and resolute as the message went out to Ethan Gabriel and Matt Slade.

Noticing that Rory no longer wanted to look at the carnage unfolding outside, Yuel stepped closer. Without a word, he gently covered her eyes with his hand, shielding her from the grisly aftermath.

"Rory," he said softly, his tone calm and coaxing, "let Jasper stay behind to deal with what’s left. Nix—and I will take you home so you can rest, all right?"

Since Rory had already decided she would never form contracts with those two ancient monsters of the Violet Mystic Serpent Clan, there was no reason to remain in this revolting place any longer.

She had seen enough.

Though Yuel hadn’t known Rory for very long, he had already learned enough from her daily habits to guess that her past experience mostly involved hunting feral beasts.

She had never been forced to witness, so directly and brutally, the dark, filthy, and utterly cruel side of beastmen society.

These scenes might have frightened her.

Jasper and Nix also noticed that Rory’s complexion looked off. They silently agreed with Yuel’s suggestion.

Nix spoke gently, his voice warm and soothing.

"Female Master, let’s go back first. There’s nothing fun about the Serpent Clan anyway. I’ll take you to the Ravaryn Clan—there’s lots to see and do there."

Rory wasn’t actually frightened. She had slaughtered countless mutated beasts before; scenes drenched in blood no longer fazed her.

What truly shook Rory wasn’t the violence itself, but the realization—learned for the first time—that someone could conduct experiments on their own people.

That single truth stunned her into silence. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

The idea gnawed at her, cold and unsettling, and she found herself needing time—just a little time—to process what it meant about the world she had stepped into.

Still, when she looked at Jasper, Yuel, and Nix and saw the worry written so plainly on their faces, Rory didn’t push their concern aside.

"All right," she said after a moment, giving a small nod. "We’ll do as Yuel suggests."

Then she turned toward Jasper, her expression softening.

"Thank you for your hard work, Jasper."

Jasper didn’t feel tired in the slightest. Fatigue meant nothing to him in that moment. As long as Rory was safe—standing here, breathing—he would shoulder any burden without complaint.

After they exchanged farewells, Yuel produced his compact battleship, its sleek hull unfolding with a quiet hum. He helped Rory aboard with careful, almost protective movements, making sure she was settled before stepping back.

He then handed control of the ship over to Nix.

"My abilities haven’t fully recovered yet," Yuel said, rubbing his temple lightly. "I’ll have to trouble you to pilot the ship."

Nix accepted the controls without hesitation. He knew Yuel was still far from full strength and didn’t question the decision, focusing instead on getting them home safely.

"I’ll take care of it, my lady," he said. "Shall we head straight to the Ravaryn Lion-Tiger Clan?"

"Wait."

Yuel stopped him. He looked visibly tired as he massaged the space between his brows.

"A married male is like spilled water—you can’t pour him back into the bowl. Nix, you’ve already been married off. You can bring Rory to your natal home as a guest, but taking her and her other bonded partners there to live... that wouldn’t be appropriate."

Even if Nix himself didn’t mind, and even if the Lion-Tiger Clan raised no objections—

Yuel and Jasper certainly would.

Nix froze, then asked hesitantly, "Then... where should we take my master?"

If not the Ravaryn Lion-Tiger Clan, where else could they go?

Yuel smiled.

"Of course, we go back to Rory’s home."

He sent Nix an address.

"This is an estate I prepared for Rory before we came to Central District. We’ll go there."

Nix stared at the coordinates in shock.

"You spend all day lying around in flowerpots—how did you even manage to prepare something like this?"

Why hadn’t he thought of setting up an estate for their lady?

Rory also looked at Yuel in disbelief.

"I have my own methods," Yuel replied calmly. "If I didn’t prepare it, were you planning to rely on you or Jasper?"

One of them had machinery on the brain day and night.

The other was buried under endless responsibilities and barely had time to advance his cultivation—let alone think about preparing a home for Rory.

Yuel guided Rory into the battleship’s lounge and helped her settle down.

"It’ll take some time to reach the estate," he said gently. "You can get some sleep here first."

"Chirp!"

Burnt Dumpling leaped swiftly onto Yuel’s shoulder.

Seeing Rory look unwell earlier had worried him. He didn’t want to stay with Nix; he wanted to follow Rory to the lounge instead.

Yuel glanced at the little creature—and suddenly smiled.

"Rory," he said, amusement flickering in his eyes, "I just realized... I forgot to introduce him to you properly..."
