Chapter 124: Drunk

For dinner, Rory taught them how to make braised exotic-beast meat, steamed sea beast, and a dish of oil-braised giant prawns.

She also squeezed some fresh juice, then took out a bottle of fruit wine from her space ring.

She had brewed it herself. Only this one bottle was left.

"What’s that?" Vincent and Jasper looked at what Rory had taken out, their eyes filled with curiosity.

There was no actual alcohol in the interstellar world. Rory had no idea why.

The Astrium Empire possessed an extremely advanced civilization—top-tier weapons, housing, clothing, and technology.

Some beastmen even cooked. The results weren’t great, but at least the food was edible.

But alcohol? It was as if there had been a cultural gap—a really big gap. It simply didn’t exist.

Normally, they drank water, juice extracted from exotic plants, or various liquids. Some beastmen drank tea.

"This is fruit wine I brewed myself. Want to try it?"

"Fruit wine?" Jasper had never heard of it. He assumed it was similar to juice—something refined from exotic fruit—and nodded.

Vincent brought over three cups.

Since there were no wine glasses, he used ordinary drinking cups instead—crafted from crystal stone and extremely beautiful.

The alcohol content wasn’t high, but since neither of them had ever drunk alcohol before, Rory didn’t dare give them much.

She poured a small cup for each of them, then poured herself a large one. Rory was quite confident in her tolerance.

"Come on, cheers."

She raised her cup. Jasper and Vincent didn’t quite understand why they were clinking cups, but they obediently followed her lead.

The cups touched.

"I’ll finish mine—drink as you like," Rory said happily. Finally—someone to drink with her.

Vincent and Jasper watched as Rory drained her large cup in one go. They followed suit and drank theirs as well.

The fruity aroma mixed with a sharp burn as it went down, carrying a hint of bitterness. It wasn’t exactly delicious, but it was strangely addictive.

"Rory, I want another cup," Jasper said.

Seeing that he seemed fine, Rory poured him another small cup. Vincent didn’t say anything, but silently held out his cup as well.

Rory reminded them, "This stuff can make you drunk. Drink slowly."

Drunk? Vincent frowned slightly as he looked at Rory.

Why did Rory suddenly have two heads? And why was there a snake wagging its tail beside him?

"Rory... what does ’drunk’ mean?" Jasper’s tail swayed as his snake head rested on the table, his eyes full of confusion.

Beside him, Vincent vanished. In his place, a small, chubby fire-red bird appeared on the table.

It wobbled—then plunged headfirst into the plate of braised meat.

Rory sucked in a sharp breath. She suddenly understood why alcohol didn’t exist here.

These two revealed their true forms after one cup of fruit wine?!

No—wait—

"Jasper, where are you going?" Rory had just pulled Vincent out of the plate when she saw Jasper slithering away across the floor.

Literally slithering.

Jasper replied vaguely, "Going home... to sleep."

"Your room is upstairs! Why are you crawling outside?! Get back here!"

Holding Vincent, Rory hurried after Jasper.

She had made a huge mistake. She should never have let these two drink.

"There’s a bug!" Vincent suddenly struggled out of her grasp, flapping his wings as he chased after Jasper.

"Rory, I’ll catch bugs for you to eat!"

Rory had no idea how such a chubby bird could even fly—but fly he did.

And fast.

By the time Jasper reached the door, he vanished.

Vincent vanished too.

Just as Rory was about to search for them, her vision suddenly darkened as a tall figure blocked her path.

"Paros?" Seeing the man who had suddenly appeared, Rory instinctively stepped back. "How did you get in?"

"This barrier can’t stop me," Paros said lazily, disdain lacing his voice.

"You don’t need to be afraid. I won’t hurt you. I just want to ask—why did you delete me?"

He looked at her with eyes full of sadness. For some reason, he needed to hear the answer from her own mouth.

As if without it, he’d never be able to let this go.

Why did Rory delete him?

Because she didn’t want to deal with him, obviously.

"Since the match was dissolved, there’s no reason to stay in contact. You should leave."

She had no time to talk to him—she needed to find Vincent and Jasper. Drunk Vincent wouldn’t eat Jasper, would he?

Firebirds didn’t eat snakes... right?

"Did I do something wrong?" Seeing her about to leave, Paros grabbed her wrist to stop her.

"Ethan said it was wrong of me to invite you to dinner and make you cook. You must be angry because of that."

Rory shook his hand off—several times—but couldn’t break free. Seeing that he wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, she clenched her teeth.

"I’m in a hurry to find someone. If you want an answer, wait here. Don’t stop me."

Paros released her immediately. "All right. I’ll wait for you to come back."

Rory didn’t spare him another glance and ran off to search for Vincent and Jasper.

She opened her light-brain and checked the estate’s surveillance. Very quickly, she spotted them by the pond.

Jasper had somehow become smaller and was dangling from Vincent’s beak.

Rory sucked in a sharp breath and sprinted over.

Oh no.

Was Vincent actually going to eat Jasper?

Fortunately—not yet.

Vincent flew over with great effort, dropped Jasper into Rory’s hands, and chirped,

"Rory, here—bug for you."

Jasper rolled twice in her palm and coiled around her wrist.

"Rory... go home... sleep..."

Rory: "..."

She grabbed Jasper with one hand, seized Vincent—who was flapping wildly—by the wings with the other, and hurried back.

***

Meanwhile, in the living room, Paros, who had been waiting, was gone.

In his place lay a massive black dragon sprawled on the floor. Beside its head sat an empty wine bottle.

Rory: "..."

How did this guy drink her wine too?!

Another drunk one.

The moment Vincent and Jasper saw Paros, they went berserk.

They leaped onto his dragon body in a flash—biting, gnawing, and attacking.

Vincent even breathed fire. Jasper clamped onto Paros’s scales and injected venom.

"Stop it—both of you, stop!"

Rory was terrified. If they killed Paros here tonight, the Water Domain and the Empire would be at war.

She tried to grab Vincent—Jasper bit harder, tearing scales clean off.

Paros drank the remaining half bottle of wine. He was completely out—no resistance at all.

Collapsed on the floor like a corpse.

"Jasper, let go!" Rory went to pry Jasper’s mouth open—Vincent immediately started setting Paros on fire.

Paros’s tail was scorched black.

Strangely enough, the flames only burned his tail and nowhere else—as if Vincent were doing it deliberately.

Whether it was the pain or sheer luck, Paros finally twitched.

The moment he raised a claw, Rory grabbed Vincent.

She released Jasper to save Vincent, and Vincent got even angrier.

Fireballs flew like they were free. Though smaller, the two of them were faster and more agile.

Rory ran around in chaos for ages—without managing to catch even a single feather.

She was on the verge of losing her mind.

"Both of you—STOP IT! STOP!"

Paros lay completely motionless, utterly wrecked.

Scales littered the floor. One of his dragon whiskers had even been yanked out.

Just as Rory was about to break down, Yuel suddenly returned. Seeing him felt like seeing salvation itself.

"Yuel—please, help me catch them!"

Yuel took in the chaotic scene and rushed over, first checking Rory carefully.

Only after confirming she was unharmed did he ask calmly, "What happened? Why is it so... lively here?"
