Interstellar Beast World: All My Husbands Are Powerful and Rich!-Chapter 89: Hunting
Beyond the floor-to-ceiling window, far past the quiet perimeter of the cabin, thick columns of black smoke coiled upward into the sky like malignant serpents, blotting out the stars.
"Fire?!"
Rory’s eyes flew wide. She shot upright and sprinted to the glass, planting her palm against it as she scanned the horizon in frantic disbelief. What she saw made her stomach twist sharply.
Nearly every sector beyond the immediate cabin grounds was burning.
Flames tore through structures in the distance, painting the night in violent shades of orange and red. Entire sections of the base were swallowed by fire, their outlines flickering through the smoke like dying embers.
Boom—!Boom—!Boom—!
The explosions thundered in rapid succession, each blast closer than the last. The ground shuddered beneath her feet, and the reinforced glass vibrated violently, humming with the force of the shockwaves. This wasn’t distant artillery or controlled demolition—it was close, brutal, and relentless.
What’s happening? Why is the entire base under attack?!
Rory didn’t hesitate. She tore into her combat suit, snapping the seals into place with practiced efficiency, her movements sharp and instinctive. Within seconds, she burst out of the bedroom, heart hammering as her eyes swept the living room.
Empty.
"Nix?" she called sharply, her voice cutting through the chaos. "Nix!"
"Female Master, I’m here."
Nix emerged from the kitchen, entirely unbothered by the chaos outside. Both of his hands were coated in sticky dough, and perched atop his head like an entitled crown was Burnt Dumpling, sprawled lazily across his hair. The little creature’s paws were dusted white with flour, leaving streaks and smudges everywhere it touched.
The sight was so absurdly domestic that Rory nearly laughed—but the relief hit her first.
They were unharmed.
She exhaled slowly, forcing the tight knot in her chest to loosen.
"Nix," she said quickly, regaining focus, "do you know what’s happening outside? What are those explosions?"
Nix flicked a glance toward the window, irritation flashing briefly across his features as another distant explosion rumbled through the night. Then he turned back to Rory, his expression smoothing into calm composure, as though the chaos outside were nothing more than an inconvenience.
"Did the fighting wake you, Female Master?" he asked evenly. "Jasper’s family arrived to demand money. He refused." His tone remained matter-of-fact. "So they’re attacking the Alliance headquarters."
Rory froze.
"...What?"
For a heartbeat, she genuinely thought she must have misheard him. The words didn’t quite register, refusing to settle into anything that made sense.
"They demanded money," Nix repeated patiently, as though explaining something obvious, "and when Jasper refused, they initiated an assault."
Her blood ran cold.
So when extortion fails, they just start a war? That wasn’t negotiation. That was organized robbery—brazen and brutal.
"Where’s Jasper?" she demanded, panic threading through her voice despite her effort to stay controlled. "Is he back already? Is he fighting out there?"
She didn’t dare rush outside blindly. The Alliance headquarters was crawling with high-ranking Dragon Kind fighters—Rank Six and above, veterans honed by countless battles. Rory herself was only Rank Four. Charging headlong into that chaos would be suicide, not heroism.
Nix shook his head. "Not yet. The alliance notified him immediately. He’s on his way back now. As soon as he received the alert, he contacted me and ordered me to protect you at all costs."
That explained why no one had drawn the fight toward the cabin.
Nix hadn’t moved because she was the priority.
Rory clenched her fists. "What’s the situation right now? Can you see what’s happening?"
Judging from the scale of the explosions, if the fighting continued unchecked, the base wouldn’t just suffer damage—it would be leveled.
Nix activated his light-brain and tapped into the alliance’s surveillance network. In less than ten seconds, multiple live feeds projected into the air between them.
Rory stared.
That was... fast.
The footage made her breath hitch.
The battlefield was utter devastation.
Once-thriving vegetation had been obliterated. Captured beasts lay restrained or injured. Alliance personnel fought desperately amid the wreckage—many bloodied, several missing limbs, others dragging fallen comrades to safety under heavy fire. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Nix’s jaw tightened. "Jasper explicitly ordered them not to fight at the cost of their lives."
Rory swallowed hard.
Then why are they still pushing themselves like this?
Her attention locked onto one feed in particular.
A colossal violet serpent dominated the field, its massive body crushing structures beneath it with casual cruelty. Dark-purple eyes gleamed with mocking contempt as it gazed down at the alliance fighters—as though watching insects scramble.
Standing atop the serpent’s head was a woman clad in elaborate attire, her long hair streaming in the wind. Behind her gathered a formation of Violet Obsidian Dragon Kind.
There was no doubt about it.
That serpent was their leader.
They couldn’t let this continue. Buildings could be rebuilt. Equipment could be replaced.
Lives could not.
"Nix," Rory said tightly, "can you tell what rank that serpent is?"
He answered instantly. "His name is Nae Mandian. Rank 9."
Her heart sank.
A Rank 9.
That was an insurmountable gap.
"We can’t let him keep massacring the alliance," Rory said, forcing herself to stay calm. "Is there any way you can deal with him?"
Right now, it was just the two of them. The alliance’s strongest fighters topped out at Rank 8—only two of them. Against Sulien, they were completely outmatched.
Nix lowered his head, ears flattening slightly. "I’m sorry, Female Master. I’m only Rank 8 at present. I can’t defeat him head-on. If I had my mecha... I could annihilate him."
But he hadn’t brought it.
He’d been taken while unconscious—separated from his warship, his mecha, everything.
Rory nodded once, resolute. "Next time, we bring your mecha—and we reduce him to ashes."
But now wasn’t next time.
Force wouldn’t work.
They needed strategy.
Her hand slid to her storage band. Inside was the black crystal Paros had given her. With that artifact, she was confident she could at least protect herself—and Nix—if things went wrong.
On the screen, another alliance member collapsed, their leg shattered beyond recognition.
Rory turned away.
She couldn’t watch anymore.
Nae wasn’t just stealing resources.
He was hunting.
Torturing.
Slaughtering alliance personnel for sport.
And Rory knew, with chilling certainty—if this continued, there wouldn’t be an alliance left to protect.
