Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 36: Structural Diagram
The group advanced quickly and cautiously. Their Combat Boots were nearly silent on the alloy floor.
As they moved forward, Lin Xinghai’s sense of the Zombies grew clearer. They were mostly distributed along both sides of this corridor.
And it wasn’t just him. Those like Roger, who had broken their second Genetic Lock, had also noticed by now.
However, aside from tightening their grips on their Firearms, they made no other moves.
Soon, a series of blast doors appeared on both sides of the corridor. Although the doors were thick, the Mercenaries’ hearing was extraordinary. Coupled with the unusual silence, they could all hear noises from behind them.
There were footsteps, the sound of objects being knocked over, and the scraping of Sharp Claws against metal.
It was obvious there were Zombies behind these doors.
At this point, Fang Tianhe slowed his pace and began to inspect the nameplates above the blast doors.
"Found it!" Upon seeing the two words "Control Room," Fang Tianhe immediately waved for the team to halt.
The team member who had pried open the window earlier stepped forward again with the Vibrating Dagger. However, these blast doors were made of high-strength alloy, making them difficult to cut even with a Vibrating Dagger.
So, the team member only cut an opening around the lock before stepping back. Fang Tianhe then moved forward, hooked his fingers into the newly cut groove, and exerted his full strength.
CRACK!
Fang Tianhe’s Power, a staggering 97 points, was on full display. The lock, which hadn’t been completely severed, was snapped apart, and the 5-centimeter-thick alloy door was slowly pulled open.
ROAR!
The door had been opened less than 15 centimeters when a Zombie’s head shot out, lunging to bite Fang Tianhe.
But Fang Tianhe seemed to have anticipated it. His other hand shot forward, accurately grabbing the Zombie’s head, and then he yanked it backward.
He had torn the entire Zombie’s head off with his bare hands, while its body was still stuck behind the door.
GULP!
Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but swallow. ’This is what you call an absolute gap in power!’
He handled that Zombie as easily as if it were a baby chick.
Fang Tianhe casually tossed the head aside, then kicked viciously at the headless corpse behind the door.
THUD!
Under the terrifying force of his Giant Strength, the headless corpse flew backward like a cannonball, knocking over all the Zombies that had been following it.
Only then did Fang Tianhe push the alloy door fully open and enter. The team members behind him filed in and quickly finished off the four downed Zombies.
The whole process was smooth and fast.
’Strength Type Optimized are just so badass!’ Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but mutter as he quickly followed the team inside.
"Roger, I need the schematics for this research institute. You’re up," Fang Tianhe said, pointing at the monitoring computer in front of them.
"Piece of cake!" Roger said, activating his wrist-mounted computer while taking out a black metal cube and placing it gently on the monitoring computer’s connection port.
Lin Xinghai could see the black metal cube slowly begin to change shape, finally inserting itself seamlessly into the port.
’Liquid metal?’ Lin Xinghai muttered to himself, then looked at the light screen projected from Roger’s wrist-mounted computer.
A waterfall of code was already appearing on it.
"Tsk! It may be a 20-year-old antique, but this firewall is no joke. Just what you’d expect from the Spacecraft Research Institute," Roger remarked, looking at the code.
"How long will it take?" Fang Tianhe asked.
"About a minute," Roger replied.
Fang Tianhe frowned but ultimately said nothing.
However, Roger immediately caught his subtle expression. "Captain, if you think this is slow, how about you approve some special funding for me later? Get me the latest model decoder, and I guarantee I can get it done in 10 seconds."
"Ahem! We’ll talk about that later," Fang Tianhe said.
Roger pouted. "We’ll talk about that later" could be directly interpreted as: No!
But a minute wasn’t long. The time passed with a bit of light-hearted banter.
"Done!" Roger said, tapping a few times on the virtual keyboard in the air. Instantly, a 3D schematic of the Spacecraft Research Institute was projected.
Fang Tianhe stepped forward and studied the projected schematic for a moment. He then enlarged the projection and pointed to a specific spot. "The Energy Room is here, on the third basement level."
As he spoke, he manipulated his own wrist-mounted computer, downloading the data and quickly calculating the optimal route.
"Let’s go. This way." Fang Tianhe took the lead again. With the map in hand, things were much easier, and they quickly found the stairs leading down.
Upon reaching the first basement level, everyone felt the view suddenly open up.
The upper floors of the Spacecraft Research Institute were mostly office areas, and even the research labs were partitioned into individual rooms.
But the first basement level was almost entirely open-plan. It was filled with numerous large pieces of machinery, and in the very center sat a partially assembled spacecraft.
Looking at its massive size, streamlined hull, and high-tech appearance, Lin Xinghai was completely stunned.
If the Great Cataclysm hadn’t broken out, the space age might have dawned long ago.
However, his awe lasted less than a second before he was pulled back to reality by the roars of Zombies.
This entire floor was an assembly workshop with nothing to obstruct the view. The more than one hundred Zombies on this level spotted them instantly and lunged forward like a pack of starving jackals.
Without the protection of an Armored Vehicle, facing the charge of over a hundred Zombies, Lin Xinghai honestly felt his courage waver.
"Keep up the pace!" At the head of the team, Fang Tianhe showed no fear or hesitation, leading everyone straight toward the entrance to the next staircase.
Facing the charging Zombies, he raised his blade and cut one down, followed by a horizontal slash that sliced two more in half at the waist.
It was clean and decisive; his forward momentum didn’t falter in the slightest.
Everyone following behind, including Lin Xinghai, felt their resolve harden. They opened fire while quickly keeping pace.
Although there were over a hundred Zombies, they were spread out across the entire floor. In the end, only a dozen or so posed a real threat as the team rushed through.
As soon as they rushed into the stairwell, Wu Yan, who was covering the rear, casually shut the door behind them, and that was that.
The second basement level was mainly for researching spacecraft engines. The assembly area was divided into a number of smaller rooms, so passing through was also relatively easy.
But when they reached the third basement level, Lin Xinghai used his Perception Power to scan the area and was slightly taken aback.
