Chapter 246: Chapter 15: Fight for Me, Die for Me

Luca hailed from the Heavy Equipment troops, and later, Roman appointed him as the Cavalry Captain.

Even though they were all Light Cavalry, the charge brought by the warhorses did not diminish much.

It was like standing at the side of a road when numerous vehicles sped past at sixty kilometers per hour.

Modern people take it for granted and are simply grateful they haven’t been hit.

But for the people of this era, it was a shocking scene.

Why are Conquest Knights said to be invincible?

Not just because of their own might.

More importantly, those who weren’t worldly-wise would psychologically crumble and their morale would shatter upon encountering cavalry.

It’s like modern people walking along when suddenly, lightning strikes nearby, anyone would exclaim, "What the fuck."

Luca led the cavalry in a full-speed charge, with two hundred robust warhorses like a torrent bursting through both sides of the infantry formation.

And even though the warhorses and infantry were less than a meter apart, the soldiers still gripped their long spears tightly without a hint of faltering.

This practice improved the troops’ capacity to endure.

Having experienced it, the threshold was raised, and they would not fear cavalry encounters as much in the future.

Roman was very satisfied with this effect.

During the new recruits’ drills, some messes happened. But considering they had been enlisted for less than two months and were reviewed by Roman below, it was within reason that disorder occurred.

Next were the Heavy Shield Soldiers—if they performed well, it was normal; if not, they would face punishment.

Then came the Archers’ shooting drills, this unit was composed of soldiers with Talent, selected from various Infantry squads.

The elite among them were survivors from the last time Roman raided Kant Territory.

They had fought the most brutal battles, suffered the most casualties, and thus received Roman’s commendation and medals, so they could pass down that Spirit.

This was the fledgling form of military heritage, the beginning of a sense of military honor, which needed to be diligently nurtured.

After the military exercise review ended, Roman found that their combat readiness fell within the expected range, sufficient to cope with the upcoming Battle.

...

It was at the military training ground that Roman dismissed the ordinary soldiers.

He convened the first all-military conference.

All officers were participants.

Even the cooking squad and the medical team attended.

Three-quarters of those present were Roman’s Angel Envoys.

"The establishment of an army is always a herculean and arduous task, but the extent to which you’ve all done it satisfies me," he began.

Most of the officers immediately showed smiles.

To have worked so hard and exhaustively was, in part, to gain his approval.

"But this is not enough,"

Roman gestured with his hands,

"My warriors, the situation externally has entered a very complex phase, and these forces are far from capable of dealing with the future scenarios. We must keep expanding; tough battles await us.

"You’ve already awakened, many of you recognize a great many words, you should understand the mission we bear—our brethren, our kin, are currently living in dire straits, suffering at the hands of those so-called Nobles, with scenes too ghastly to behold.

"I am your Lord, your River Valley King; I am also the only true Lord, the only true King of this era; I cannot stand idly by.

"I call upon you, I command you to save them! To save this land of suffering!

"Every piece of white bread those hypocritical Lords eat is baked from the flesh and bones of the people!

"Every sip of wine those cold-hearted Nobles drink is irrigated with the blood of the people!

"They are cannibals! This era is cannibalistic! It has given birth to a breed of Devil wearing human skin, elegance in their motions, slicing food with knife and fork, as though their sanctimonious acts could cover the brutal fact that they are consuming our parents, our children!

"This is the most evil of deeds! The most unjust of actions!"

Green looked around at them, his eyes gathered with a compelling force as he saw their silence and anger, like a volcano primed to erupt.

"Origin City is now mining for gold, but gold is nothing but a trifle easily acquired.

"To me, the most precious treasure in this world is the people—all the people of this land, especially those who are loyal to me.

"I cannot bear to see my people suffer, toil, endure hardships, and receive punishment...

"Therefore, I command you to become the shield of the people, to protect them.

"For the sake of the people, wage wars, to strangle all those hypocritical nobles cloaked in human skin at your feet, to teach them repentance, to make them repay their sins, to let them know that the oppressed are not without guardians!

"I order you to also extend a helping hand! Humanity must not be indifferent, it must reach out to help the impoverished and destitute brethren! Everyone should hold this belief—give generously to the weak and poor!

"You dedicate yourselves to this cause, sacrificing blood and life, but history will remember your achievements, and the people will not forget you.

"When you dedicate yourselves to your collective, to your brethren, you are true heroes! Even a dwarf will stand tall, and even a coward will have a shining heart.

"This is glory! Believe me, there is no greater glory than this.

"I will grant you glory! I will bless my heroes! Whether you live or die, I will bestow glory upon you, bless you!

"To die for me, you will receive the utmost glory and blessing!"

Green abruptly stood up. He stood on the platform, raising his right hand, shining brilliantly under the winter sun.

All the officers were stirred with emotion, gazing admiringly at the radiant and upright figure, too excited to speak, responding only with shouts!

And the most fervent were none other than the Angel Envoys, who had received blessings, were in a period of transformation, and had significantly improved physical conditions.

"For Lord Green!"

"For the River Valley King!"

Their voices grew more passionate and lofty with each shout!

...

After leaving the barracks, Roman had successfully brainwashed that group of darlings once more.

But the brainwashing was incidental.

His visit was to establish the future military system.

As the military now had the foundation to form an army, it needed to develop further—that is, it needed a supreme military commander.

To assess the situation, oversee the bigger picture, plan all aspects of the war.

Green could take on this role.

But he really didn’t have enough energy for it now.

To be the army’s highest commander meant managing all soldiers in great detail, spending most of the day in the barracks, unable to leave.

And Roman could only play offline, so he was certainly not fit for the role!

So, he appointed Jet as the Commander and Dick as the Deputy Commander.

In the past, their positions were somewhat ambiguous; after all, they were Conquest Knights—Jet was a Sword Master, also one of the Extraordinary Soldiers, and held a status consistent with the Conquest Knights in the manor.

Their statuses had no high or low distinction, whether in the training of soldiers, at what time meals were served, or in military regulations.

They would discuss matters together.

And after unanimous discussions, most of the time they chose to listen to Jet.

Dick was experienced but somewhat lazy by nature.

Green, with a frivolous approach to affairs, could not command respect.

Aaron was even more of a silent type, not able to utter a word in the barracks, with one phrase being "me too" and the next "just listen to you."

Nathan Kao and others were not on the candidate list.

Only Jet was fairly reliable.

Green was well aware of this, so now he had clarified Jet’s overall command position.

Then he had another matter to concern himself with.

That was the Transfer of the Angel Envoys.
