Chapter 290: Humor and Heart ( 290 )

Wiwi, the calm and well-spoken receptionist, stepped out from the back office holding a polished silver adventurer plate and a small pouch.

She approached the counter with a practiced smile.

"Mister Hazuki," she called gently.

Hazuki stood and approached the counter, completely ignoring Mima, who was now practically orbiting him like a hungry cat circling grilled meat.

Mima’s golden eyes sparkled as she tilted her head from side to side, peeking at every angle of his bare upper body. Her lips trembled, her face red, and a steady trickle of blood slid from one nostril as she locked in on his biceps and six-pack like a starved beast.

"Nngghh... look at those veins... those arms... those abs..." she mumbled with both hands clutched in front of her chest, eyes swirling. "By the forge, if muscles had a scent, I’d bottle ye and bathe in it..."

Hazuki deadpanned. "I’m ignoring that."

Wiwi remained professional, placing the reissued adventurer plate—now silver-plated with the B+ rank insignia—on the counter.

"Here is your reissued adventurer plate, Mister Hazuki. And this"—she handed over a clinking pouch—"is the extra payment for turning in two Chusi Flowers. The full reward for the entire herb quest will be processed once the complete list is submitted."

Hazuki picked up the plate and eyed the surface. It was sturdy, clean.

Then he opened the pouch.

1 gold coin, 50 silver coins.

"Ah... thanks," Hazuki said, slipping it into his side bag, already calculating how many meals that would cover.

Mima leaned in again, resting her chin on her palm like a swooning maiden, eyes half-lidded. "Ye got meat for days, lad... mind if I nibble a bit?"

Hazuki finally turned toward her with a flat expression. "Oi. Stop staring at me."

Mima didn’t blink. "Can’t. Ye’ve cast a spell on me abs-starved soul..."

Hazuki slowly looked toward Wiwi, who remained perfectly composed behind the counter.

"Hey... this friend of yours is kinda annoying."

Wiwi exhaled softly. "She’s not my friend. She’s my coworker. And please understand—Mima’s like this with anyone that breathes and has muscle tone."

"Oi! That ain’t true!" Mima barked, puffing her cheeks. "I got standards!"

Hazuki ignored her and casually walked toward the guild door, waving lazily over his shoulder.

"Thanks. I’ll come again when I got the next one."

The door creaked as he pushed it open, the usual smell of oil and metal giving way to fresh, open air. Sunlight hit his bare chest as he stepped outside.

Ridan floated above him, doing lazy corkscrews in the air like a bored spirit bird. He dipped low, shot upward again, then spun twice in a slow circle above Hazuki’s head.

"So what’s next, Hazuki?"

Hazuki glanced up at him, then down at the delicate white flower in his hand.

"Hmm? Let’s find that little girl... give her the Seraphis Flower." frёeweɓηovel_coɱ

Ridan hovered to Hazuki’s side and nodded. "Yeah... good thinking."

Hazuki adjusted the coin pouch at his waist and started walking at an easy pace, passing dwarven vendors and stalls. The chatter of the town filled the air, but his eyes stayed focused.

He turned a corner and spotted the same vendor stall.

He looked at the flower again.

Still fresh.

Not even wilted.

Its soft glow shimmered faintly in the sunlight, petals unmarred despite the hours it had spent in his hand.

"...Not bad," Hazuki muttered, lips curling faintly.

Ridan floated quietly, watching his expression with unreadable eyes.

The vendor came into view. And just beyond it, a small figure. The same little girl, dwarven child with tied braids and a hopeful face, was peeking at passing customers—waiting.

As soon as the little girl spotted him, her eyes lit up like festival lanterns.

"UNCLE!!"

She ran up with tiny footsteps thumping against the cobbled path and threw her arms wide.

Hazuki smiled gently, then squatted down and reached out to softly tousle her braided hair.

"Here. I got one for you," he said, holding out the glowing white Seraphis Flower.

The girl gasped. "Is this really the Seraphis Flower!?"

"Yeah," Hazuki nodded, tilting the flower gently toward her. "According to the guild receptionist... and this guy here."

He pointed toward Ridan, who hovered lazily with a smug grin on his face.

The girl looked at where Hazuki was pointing and blinked in confusion.

She tilted her head. "Huh?"

"Ah—nothing, nothing," Hazuki said quickly, waving it off.

Then, without warning, she stepped in close and gave him a loud kiss on the cheek, then wrapped her little arms around his neck.

"Thank you, Uncle!!"

Hazuki smiled again, quietly, patting her back with a warm awkwardness he didn’t know how to express in words.

After a moment, she ran back toward the vendor, clutching the flower like a treasure.

Hazuki stood, gave a small wave goodbye, and turned to walk off—still smiling faintly.

Ridan floated up beside him, snorting.

"Yo... stop smiling like that. It’s creepy, Lolizuki."

"O-O-Oi!! I’m not a lolicon!" Hazuki hissed, flailing one hand in panic.

Ridan chuckled, twirling in the air. "Sure you’re not. Just keep handing flowers to little girls in back alleys while shirtless and sweaty."

Hazuki let out a long sigh, his hand rubbing the back of his neck as he started walking again.

"Let’s go find a good shirt and pants for humans around here... I really hope they’ve got one. And boots. Walking barefoot on this cobblestone road isn’t comfy."

Ridan floated beside him with a lazy spin. "Yeah yeah... and after that, what?"

Hazuki gave him a sidelong glance. "Hmm? Eat, of course. And maybe find a good cheap inn?"

Ridan perked up. "How about yesterday’s inn?"

Hazuki scratched his cheek. "That one’s probably full by now. Remember, I checked out and there were already people waiting in the front area."

"Yeah... can’t blame them," Ridan muttered. "Cheap inn, decent beds, quiet neighbors. Kinda hard to find that combo these days."

Hazuki nodded in agreement. "Guess we’ll look around after I get something on my feet that isn’t stone, mud, or poison."

"Or dwarven girl drool," Ridan added with a grin.

Hazuki stopped mid-step and glared at him. "Stop talking."

Ridan snickered. "Not until you put a shirt on. You’re causing nosebleeds and traffic."

Hazuki grumbled and picked up his pace toward the vendor street ahead.
