Chapter 59: A Sweet Start to the Day ( 59 )
"Ugh... my head... Damn...!"
Hazuki slowly sat up, groaning as a sharp headache pounded through his skull. He blinked and rubbed his temples.
Then—
He froze.
He wasn’t in the stable.
Not surrounded by hay.
Not next to a snoring horse.
Instead—
He was on someone’s veranda.
A comfortable wooden deck, shaded by a small roof.
The morning air was crisp.
Nearby, a small stream flowed gently, its soft trickling sound mingling with the chirping birds.
"Huh...?"
Hazuki looked around in confusion. His bag was next to him along with his clothes, belongings, and the book.
Everything was still there.
But—
"Where the hell am I?!"
Then—
A familiar voice called out.
"Uncle, did you wake up yet?"
Hazuki turned his head.
Standing by the doorway was Ellyn.
Her eyes glowed in the morning light as she smiled softly.
Hazuki blinked at her.
Then—
"Oh. Ellyn..."
A brief silence followed.
"Why am I here?"
Ellyn tilted her head, her tail swaying behind her.
She smiled.
"Because you’re an idiot."
Hazuki groaned.
"Ah... shit... what did I do this time...?"
He was still clutching his head.
"Ugh... sorry for the intrusion..."
He blinked tiredly at Ellyn.
"Where’s your mother?"
Ellyn tilted her head, her tail swaying lazily.
"My mother? Umm... she went to the market, I think."
"Oh..."
Hazuki sighed and rubbed his face.
"Well... first things first... I need to clear my mind and wash my body."
He stretched his arms and then stood up unsteadily.
Ellyn watched as he stumbled toward the stream.
"Uncle... where are you going?"
"To the stream... to take a bath."
Ellyn blinked and then smiled.
"Oh... how about drinking some coffee first?"
Hazuki paused mid-step and slowly turned his head.
"...You have coffee?"
Ellyn grinned.
"Of course~"
Hazuki wobbled for a second.
"Screw the bath. Give me coffee."
Ellyn set down a big cup of coffee in front of Hazuki.
Hazuki sat on the floor, still groggy, and took a big sip.
Then—
BLERRGHHH!!!
He nearly spit it out.
Ellyn blinked in confusion.
"Hmm? What’s wrong, Uncle?"
Hazuki stared at the cup like it had personally betrayed him.
"Too sweet! Not strong enough!!!"
Ellyn tilted her head, her ears twitching.
"Ehhh? But I made it good! With honey and milk!"
Hazuki groaned, holding his head.
"That’s the problem!! Coffee needs to be bitter! It has to PUNCH YOU AWAKE!!!"
Ellyn pouted.
"Hmph! Well, I like sweet coffee!"
Hazuki grumbled, taking another sip despite his complaints.
"Damn it... this tastes like a dessert..."
Ellyn smirked.
"Then just enjoy it~"
Hazuki glared at her but kept drinking.
This wasn’t coffee; this was liquid sugar.
Hazuki shook his head furiously.
"Nope, nope! I want it more bitter! Add more coffee. Make it strong."
Ellyn sighed, crossing her arms.
"Haaaa... sounds like a pain. Why don’t you just drink the coffee as it is?"
Hazuki gave her a dead serious look.
"No way. Strong coffee, or I leave it here."
Ellyn pouted, tapping her fingers on the table.
"Hmph... fine."
She grabbed the cup, muttering as she went to fix it.
"First, he acts like a drunk idiot... now he’s acting like a picky noble... What’s next? Will he start demanding gold-trimmed plates?"
Hazuki grinned smugly.
"Oho~ If you serve it on a fancy plate, I wouldn’t say no."
Ellyn glared at him.
"Drink your damn coffee and shut up, Uncle."
Hazuki took the book out of his bag, holding it up.
"You promised to teach me magic, right?"
Ellyn nodded but then crossed her arms.
"Yes, but Uncle..."
"Hmm?"
Ellyn pointed at him.
"Go take a shower first."
Hazuki paused.
"Okay, okay."
He got up, stretching, and started heading toward the stream.
"Uncle?"
Hazuki stopped and turned around.
"What?"
Ellyn tilted her head.
"The shower is in the back."
Hazuki blinked.
"NO WAY! I’M NOT GOING INSIDE!!!"
Ellyn looked confused.
"Hmm? Why?"
Hazuki crossed his arms, looking serious.
"Hell no! I don’t want anyone to think weird!"
Ellyn stared at him.
"Uncle... nobody cares about that."
Hazuki grumbled.
"Still! The stream is safer! No weird rumors, no misunderstandings!"
Ellyn sighed, shaking her head.
"Fine, fine... do what you want, crazy Uncle."
Hazuki nodded proudly.
"Damn right."
And with that, he marched off toward the stream.
After his refreshing bath, Hazuki casually changed his clothes out in the open, stretching as he put on a fresh shirt.
When he turned around—
He saw Ellyn already sitting with the book, flipping through the pages.
Hazuki rubbed his chin.
"Hmm... I think it’s better if we go find some breakfast first."
Ellyn looked up.
"Are you sure, Uncle?"
Hazuki shrugged.
"Well... it’s not like I have anything else to do today other than learning from you, right?"
Ellyn smiled.
"Well... yeah."
"Then let’s go."
Hazuki turned toward the road.
"Umm..."
Hazuki paused, looking back.
"What?"
Ellyn stood up, fidgeting slightly. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Can you wait a bit? I need to change my clothes."
Hazuki raised an eyebrow.
"Huh? For what?"
Ellyn pouted.
"It’s a girl thing!"
Hazuki blinked.
"...Suspicious..."
Ellyn glared.
"Uncle!!!"
"Alright, alright! I’ll wait!"
Hazuki muttered as he sat back down.
Ellyn just rolled her eyes and walked off.
After changing into a fresh outfit, Ellyn walked onto the veranda.
She playfully spun around, showing off her dress.
"How do I look?"
Hazuki barely glanced at her, already stretching.
"Hmm? Yeah, yeah... cute. Now let’s go."
Ellyn froze mid-spin.
"...Mou! Uncle!"
Hazuki turned, confused.
"What?"
Ellyn crossed her arms, puffing out her cheeks.
"Hmph!"
She stomped past him, her tail flicking in irritation.
Hazuki blinked, scratching his head.
"What’s her problem?"
"Wait... was I supposed to say more?"
Ellyn glared back at him.
"Too late! You missed your chance!"
Hazuki groaned.
Ellyn huffed dramatically.
Hazuki walked ahead, while Ellyn strolled beside him, her tail swaying slightly.
She reached for his hand and held it.
Hazuki glanced down at her.
"What’s wrong with you?"
Ellyn smiled innocently.
"Nothing."
Hazuki raised an eyebrow but shrugged.
"If you say so..."
They continued walking through town, stopping at a dessert shop and bakery.
Hazuki bought some bread and pastries for them to eat.
They stopped by a coffee bean shop.
Hazuki placed a few coins on the counter.
"I want coffee. This much."
The stall owner chuckled, weighing out the beans.
Ellyn tilted her head, watching.
"Uncle?"
"Hmm?"
"What’s with the coffee beans?"
Hazuki grinned.
"Huh? You’re going to make coffee for me when we practice."
Ellyn blinked.
"Eeehh?! Since when did I agree to that?!"
Hazuki smirked, picking up the bag of coffee beans.
"Hmm? Isn’t that a "wife" duty?"
Ellyn froze.
Her ears twitched, and her face turned slightly red.
"U-U-Uncle!!!"
Hazuki laughed, walking off.
Ellyn puffed her cheeks and stomped after him.
"That’s not how this works!!!"
But—
She still held his hand the entire time.
