Chapter 51: Kingdom Of Meniras

Dorian chewed on the last parts of a mostly eaten apple. He had a bored expression on his face as he walked.

A few hundred feet in front of him lay the grand walls of the kingdom that Dorian knew as "Kyphas." They were stone walls, reaching 150ft (46m) in height with thick stone ridges patterned within them every fifty or so feet horizontally.

In front of these dense segments were two enormous knights clad in giant-sized golden armor on either side of the main entrance gate.

The knights stood 100ft (30m) tall in stature, towering over all those who waited in line at the entrance of the gate.

The line stretched quite far. By now, Dorian had nearly made it to the end of the line.

He perked his head to the side, glancing at the length of the line.

His eyes bounced, seemingly counting as he walked. He chewed on the apple stem while doing this.

There were hundreds of people, vehicles, and creatures in line. Many people were on foot, coming in various shapes and sizes.

Some were tall and lanky, others short and fat. Others looked like the elderly, some mimicking the youthful and strong. Some were mothers, others fighters.

There were carriages and wheelbarrows, carts and pulleys. All of which were harnessed by varying animals.

There were massive lizards that doubled the size of a normal horse, pulling elegant carriages.

Large canine beasts, brown bears, wolves of many kinds, stags, and many more.

As Dorian arrived at the back of the line, he simply stepped to the side and continued walking forward, right beside everyone.

Eyes noticed, speedily glancing toward him as he walked on by as if he was totally in the right.

Eyebrows furrowed, others raising only one in confusion.

"What the..."

"Who is that guy?"

"What is he doing?"

"Hes cuttting the line!"

"Hey! What do you think yer doin!?" A brutish man walked forward, a cleaver sheathed on his back.

Before he could take another step forward, a soft, feminine hand grabbed onto his shoulder. The man stopped, turning and facing a beautiful woman dressed in a blue robe behind him.

"Do not go forward." She said, her eyes seeming a bit off. It was as though she wasn’t seeing anything despite having her eyes wide open. Too many thoughts were racing through her head.

The man sighed, turning with acceptance.

Dorian walked all the way to the front of the line.

A small group of guards stood watch at the front gates. They were clad in chainmail, their helmets decorated with a pointy spike and straight swords sheathed at their waists.

The four knights seemed to be monitoring access in and out of the kingdom.

Dorian walked straight up to all of them, ignoring the person behind him whom he just cut in line.

The young man standing behind Dorian furrowed his brows with anger at first, but suddenly fell asleep the very next second.

It was odd, since the two other people behind that guy also dropped to the floor, unconscious. They all began snoring, capturing the attention of the rest of the line for a temporary moment.

In this brief second, Dorian scanned the knights with his eyes.

Noticing this, the guards placed their hands on the hilts of their weapons, bearing their fangs with stern eyes.

To them, Dorian seemed like a troublemaker.

Dorian’s pupils darted down, noticing the small act of malicious intent as he faced the knights again.

"Kyphas... is that the name of this kingdom?" He asked this specific question.

The knights were slightly caught off guard for a second.

"That... was its old name. During its prime, so to speak. It’s been ages since then. Now, it is known as Meniras, the kingdom of the southern peninsula." One of the knights standing left of Dorian replied.

"Oh... reduced to a measly peninsula, huh?" Dorian said, turning and glancing at one of the giant knights standing beside the front gates of the wall. "I guess that’s why these knights are now only stone statues covered in glitter." He almost scoffed.

The guards were bewildered, confused by the meaning of Dorian’s words.

’Were these once not only statues?’ A knight thought.

’What exactly is he suggesting?’

"Do you know why gates exist?" Dorian abruptly asked all four of the guards.

They were all caught off guard, unable to answer the question in their bout of perplexity.

"It’s to make the weak feel safe." Dorian’s eyelids lowered, a condescending expression appearing on his face.

A loud alarm suddenly began to beep loudly near the top of the inside part of the main gate.

The guards turned, gazing with shock.

Seconds later, an echo of alarms sounded on all the walls of the kingdom.

"Alarm enchantments... they are going off across all the entrance gates." One of the guards said, in utter disbelief.

"What triggered this?"

"Don’t tell me it was..." One guard said with a pause, turning and facing Dorian.

Dorian simply walked past all four guards.

They stood there and watched him walk by, their bodies frozen with an unexplainable fear and confusion.

Dorian entered the city, while the guards watched him disappear into the crowd within.

"What... just happened?" A guard said.

"We would have needed to inform higher authorities immediately, but I think the highest of authorities have already caught notice of the alarms going off across the kingdom gates." Another one exclaimed.

The alarm enchantments resembled blue crystals. Each one was holstered atop gates leading out of the kingdom.

As Dorian walked through the crowd of people in the streets, his expression was one of disgust.

He was taller than most people, his eyes looking left and right.

Then, his eyes narrowed into the center of his vision.

He stared forward at a large hill that seemed to rest in the very middle of Meniras. The hill was adorned with many buildings and walls, but at the top existed a large palace made of marble and white stone.

’Triggering the alarms might have caught the attention of whoever rules this kingdom..., but it won’t be enough for a summons just yet.’ Dorian thought to himself.

He was planning on speaking directly to the king.

’I’ll need to do something else to garner more attention...’ His eyes wandered through the crowd, ’Mass murder? Hmm... that’s a bit too dirty.’ He said, continuing to walk through the city.
