Island God: Going From Level 1 To World Ruler-Chapter 56: Mosquito Mission (Episode 2)
"Hey... I thought you were really pretty. I... didn’t want to miss this opportunity, so... you wanna go out with me sometime?" A mosquito awkwardly proposed his romance to a fellow female mosquito beside a building.
"What!?" The female mosquito suddenly shouted in a buzzy mosquito language. "Why would I ever go out with an ugly freak like you! Get lost!" She retorted, harrumphing before turning and walking away.
The male mosquito’s wings drooped, his mandible turning from erect to limp.
"Aww..." He turned in a slumped mood, "This day seriously can not get worse. I mean... I don’t know what to try anymore. I’ve already asked out over five hundred just today!" He paused, "That doesn’t sound right... maybe I’m the problem after all."
He continued hovering down the street when suddenly, a large shadow slowly began to roll over his head.
"Huh? Is it going to rain so suddenly? That would make this day even worse!" The mosquito buzzed, gazing up toward the sky.
His eyes widened with shock.
The world had been devoured by green smoke.
"Arrrgh!" A mosquito screamed from the side.
The rejected mosquito glanced over, noticing dozens of mosquito soldiers flying toward a bog plant in the air, only for it to explode in a cloud of green smoke.
Soldier mosquitoes were larger than normal ones. Normal giant mosquitoes were the size of dogs, but soldier mosquitoes usually got up to the size of brown bears!
The soldiers fell out of the air like rolled-up spiders, crashing into the ground in an explosion of insect matter.
Mosquitos traveling along the streets screamed with terror, panicking and flying every which way. Some even bumped into each other in their mad frenzy of disarray.
The rejected mosquito froze with shock.
"What is happening? What in the world is going on..." He muttered, at a loss. "Is it the orcs? Has our rule finally been challenged? I never thought such a disastrous day would come during my lifetime..."
"Hey!" A mosquito soldier called out from the distance, "Bizit, is that you!? Get away from there, find shelter in the vault room!" He yelled before moving along down the street.
The rejected mosquito, addressed as Bizit, began following the soldier.
"W-wait! Help! What do you mean by find shelter in the vault room? Isn’t it prohibited to enter there!?" Bizit yelled, afraid and confused.
The soldier turned, "Don’t worry about that! We need as many lives saved as possible--" The mosquito was cut off. A ballista arrow suddenly tore through his head, obliterating his skull.
Bizit winced in shock, petrified with horror and temporarily unable to move.
Suddenly, the body of the mosquito soldier exploded in a cloud of green smoke that quickly approached Bizit.
He attempted to fly away, but he was quickly enveloped by the smoke and knocked unconscious. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
A distance away from where Bizit passed out, dozens of mosquitoes rushed into the large dome in the center of the divot.
"Make way! I need to get into the vault!" A mosquito shouted, competing with all the others to enter the shelter.
"Get out of the way!"
"Hey! What’s your problem!"
"Move!"
"Here, take that!"
"Get away!"
Mosquitos pushed and shoved, attempting to flee to safety at all costs.
Within the dome, a large mosquito tinged with a richer, darker red hue hovered slowly toward the exit. His exoskeleton was slightly damaged and scarred, his left eye gray and deceased. Darker spots of red pattered his body like a leopard.
All around him were soldier mosquitoes.
"Lord, it is a sudden attack!" One shouted, his head pointing toward the larger, more fearsome mosquito in the center.
"We do not know the source!"
"Our surveillance hasn’t returned any information!"
"We cannot trust that team anymore! They most likely have already either been slain or interrupted from performing their duties! I ordered all the soldiers, including drone mosquitoes, to help save the injured and lead the masses to safety."
"What should we do!? Death is on our doorstep!"
Voices from all of the ten or so soldier mosquitoes all around the large one in the center screamed like wraiths, their voices fueled by horror.
"Mmmph!" The large mosquito suddenly grunted, "Shut your traps! Enough of your powerless barking! We must wait. Access this situation with utmost respect. If we act too hastily, this could be the spell of doom."
"Y-yes, King Bzzrt!" One of the soldiers shouted.
"Heard!"
"Understood, lord."
The king mosquito, addressed as "Bzzrt," exited the dome from a separate hole and peered toward the sky. His soldiers remained on guard around him.
Hundreds of feet away, Midas lay on his belly--a patch of grass spread across his back.
Only his head remained free, but it was crowned with a leaf on top. He gazed at the carnage occurring below, smirking slightly.
"For the shit you gave me, this is what you deserve... bugs." He chuckled to himself slightly. "I think it’s about time now..." He exhaled before taking in a deep breath.
He put his hands around his mouth, mimicking a speakerphone.
"Listen closely, insects!" He yelled into the open air as loud as he could.
At once, hundreds of mosquito heads turned and glanced toward Midas.
The king’s expression darkened with shock and alertness, his eyes peering southward.
At that moment, Midas rose from the ground. He stood tall over the hill for all to see.
The king’s eyes widened.
"The player..." He muttered under his breath.
Midas lifted a flag pole into the air, his symbol fluttering high in the sky.
"I-" Before Midas could even get out a word, a massive red flash swerved from below him. A giant mosquito appeared right in front of his face, hovering in the sky.
The king had already arrived before Midas.
"Stop this mad murder! Have you no sense? No morals!?" Bzzrt shouted with urgency and authenticity in complete Angesh. One could hear the angst and pain in his voice.
Midas’s eyes suddenly flickered wider. He was taken aback, not expecting to hear such words coming from a mosquito.
"Who am I kidding?" Bzzrt said, his tone lowering. Suddenly, ten large soldier mosquitoes slowly rose up and appeared beside him.
Since they were soldiers, they were the size of adult brown bears. The king was no smaller than even a full-sized horse.
The soldiers swiftly flew forward, encircling Midas before beginning to spin around him.
"You aren’t going to reason with us... You are evil at heart." Bzzrt spoke in the same lowered tone.
Midas’s eyes glanced around at all of the mosquitoes around him.
He could feel the tension in the air. He could see the anticipation flashing across the eyes of the mosquitoes.
They were going to pounce at any moment. It was obvious.
Just before they abruptly lunged toward him, Midas raised his hand in the air.
The gesture caught the bugs off guard, forcing them to halt.
"With a simple flick of my wrist, your entire population will be knocked unconscious." Midas stated nonchalantly.
