Island Survival: Starts by chopping a tree-Chapter 46 Dire Wolf
As Jeff emerged from the bush, he felt bad about the wolf being ganged up by the feral dogs. He knew that he must step up right now.
If he does not, the feral dogs will make the wolf their meal for today. Swinging the spear in a fluid motion, he smacked its base against the ground, the loud thud echoing across the clearing.
The feral dogs froze momentarily, their amber eyes snapping toward him. A low growl rippled through the pack as they turned to face this human who seemed to want to steal their prey.
Their predatory focus shifting from the wolf to him. Jeff steadied himself, his hands tightening around the shaft of the spear.
"If you don’t want to take my warning...then get ready to get beaten up," he said under his breath, his voice steely.
The first dog darted forward, snarling. Jeff shifted his weight, bringing the spear down in a wide arc. The blunt end struck the dog’s side with a solid hit.
thwack
Sending it sprawling with a yelp. He stepped back, using the momentum to spin the spear into position, ready for the next attack.
Two more dogs charged together, teeth bared. Jeff then slid into a defensive stance, activating his Way of the Spear skill.
His movements became precise and deliberate. He sidestepped the first dog and thrust the bottom of the spear forward in a quick, controlled motion, catching the animal on its shoulder and sending it tumbling.
The second dog leaped at him in midair, aiming for his chest. Jeff crouched low and swung upward, the blunt end of the spear connecting with the dog’s belly.
It released a sharp yelp and collapsed to the ground, rolling away.

Jeff’s heart pounded as he adjusted his grip, feeling the rhythm of the fight take hold. The larger and scarred alpha dog growled deeply and barked, rallying the others.
The remaining two dogs circled him warily, looking for an opening.
As one lunged from the side, Jeff twisted his body and jabbed backward with the blunt end of the spear, a move from his technique, Piercing Thrust.

The impact sent the dog skidding across the dirt, dazed but unharmed. He spun the spear around, slamming its shaft into the ground to steady himself as the other dog darted in.
This time, Jeff swung the spear horizontally, the shaft catching the dog’s flank. The blow knocked it off its feet and left it whimpering on the ground.
The alpha stepped forward now, its hackles raised. Jeff locked eyes with it, his chest rising and falling as he caught his breath.
Slowly, he raised the spear, pointing the blunt end toward the leader in a silent challenge.
The alpha hesitated, growling low. Its pack was down, scattered, and yelping in pain, though none of them were gravely injured.
It bared its teeth one last time but ultimately turned, letting out a sharp bark. The remaining dogs scrambled to their feet and limped off into the underbrush with their tails tucked.
Jeff exhaled deeply, lowering the spear. He glanced at the wolf, who was watching him intently with those piercing red eyes.
Its body was battered, and blood matted its white fur, but it still held its head high.
Jeff took a cautious step toward it, planting the spear upright in the ground as a gesture of peace.
"You’re safe now, little fella," he said softly, knowing that the wolf did not understand him.
The animal’s growl softened but remained wary as it maintained its proud stance, even in its weakened state.
After receiving a reply from the wolf, he glanced at its injuries and saw that it needed some fixer-upper. He then walked close to its legs.
When he extended his hands, the wolf growled ferociously, and its eyes turned bloody. But it could not move its body; it can only gnarled its teeth.
"Don’t worry, little fella, this will be done in no time," Jeff comforted the wolf, touching it to check the wound.
He then took out some plantago in his pocket. When he held it, he decided to wash it first. He went to the nearest bamboo and checked if there was clean water inside. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He just used the tip of the spear to pierce it as the water inside fell. He then washed the Plantago leaves, crushing them in his arms as he chewed on them briefly.
"Don’t move, little fella; this is for your own good," Jeff said to the wolf.
The wolf, not understanding his intentions, just kept growling as it lifted its head, glaring at him. When it saw that its hands were going to his wounded leg, it struggled.
But he couldn’t move as it could only shake in the ground. Jeff was unbothered, just holding the wolf’s leg gently. He then placed the crushed, moist leaves, which were now a poultice, directly onto the wolf’s wounds.
Jeff made sure to press the plant gently into the wound and ensure it was applied evenly. The wolf felt pain at first, but it slowly subsided as Jeff took back his hand.

The system notification sounded as his eyes stared at it in a daze. The exp he can only get is about 10, every time he re-apply it in his wounds.
"Is it because it’s a wolf?" Jeff thought, looking at his own wound.
But he then directed his attention to another matter, standing up and walking to the nearest bamboo, taking his stone knife with him. He then began to cut the bamboo into thin strips.
When he was done, he went back to the wolf. He then gently wrapped it around the wolf’s leg, ensuring it was not too tight.
He tied it a bit loose in place, securing the poultice without restricting the wolf’s blood flow. The wolf finally looked at his wounded leg and understood the human’s intention in front of him.
It decided to lay down on the ground and leaned down, closing its eyes to rest. Seeing the wolf, who was now comfortable, Jeff was happy to see that it was doing well, of course.
Jeff then decided to rest here for a bit to wait for the wolf to recuperate, but suddenly, a howling sound ruined his plan to rest.
The wolf who was on the ground, with its eyes closed, perked up his ears as he lifted his head. Opening its jaw, he then howls in reply.
"It must be its friends looking for him," Jeff exclaimed as he dashed to the nearest bush when he heard footsteps coming this way.
Hiding from the bush in which he had hidden earlier, he saw that a wolf even more magnificent and stronger than the wolf he had saved appeared in his view.
It is twice bigger than the wolf, and its fur is silver-white. It stood there as it wandered his gaze until he saw the injured silver wolf. Then, the pack behind him came into view.
"This wolf looks like it’s not an ordinary wolf at all. If I’m right, this must be a dire wolf," Jeff muttered in a low voice.
The wolf he just saved is actually not just a wolf, but it’s actually a dire wolf.
He had read this book during his class hour, ’Encyclopedia of Life Sciences’. This wolf in front of him perfectly reflects the information provided by the book.
In the book, the Dire Wolf was described as being much larger than modern wolves, with an average weight of 130-150 lbs (59-68 kg).
But this one? It was much, much bigger. The wolf standing before him was easily over 200 lbs (90 kg), its muscles rippling beneath a thick coat of fur. It stood nearly 4 feet at the shoulder, dwarfing even the largest wolves he’d seen in his world.
Its head was broad and powerful, with a thick, fur-covered neck, and its eyes gleamed an intense amber hue.
Its silver-white fur made it beautiful to look at. The wolf’s snout was broad and strong, filled with large, yellowed teeth clearly designed to tear through flesh easily. Its paws were massive, each capable of leaving deep impressions in the earth, and its tail was long and powerful, held high with a sense of dominance.
He then saw that the wolf went towards the injured silver wolf, filled with softness in his eyes. The silver wolf, who was on the ground, wiggled its tail; clearly, he was happy.
The big silver wolf then leaned his head toward the small silver wolf’s forehead as he licked it; the small silver wolf happily let him do as he pleased.
Jeff, who was looking at this scene, felt nothing. His mind was thinking about something that was supposed to be a guess or gut feeling, but now he had to take it even more seriously.
The feeling of impending doom began to seep, and he knew full well that he had to prepare. So, without wasting any more time, he left the place silently.
The big silver wolf stopped licking the small silver wolf’s face as he glanced at Jeff’s location.
When it first went here with its keen senses, like its intense hearing capabilities. He can clearly hear his breath, especially his scent with its sensitive nose.
He did not rush in to attack whoever was that since he did not feel any threat at all.
The little silver wolf on the ground bark as it tries to say something and pointed at his injured leg, he then woof on the bushed from where Jeff hide.
Hearing what the little silver wolf said which is his son, he scratch its head with its paw since he smell that the one who save his child was already gone now.
If it knew he would have thank it, so he just carried the little silver wolf by its neck as it place it in its back. They then left the place going back to their very own camp.
