Island Survival: Starts by chopping a tree-Chapter 49 What the hell is this?
Jeff’s heart raced as he watched the rabbit dart away, the snapped snare still dangling loosely around its body.
For a brief moment, he stood frozen, stunned by the creature’s audacity. Then, the sight of its mocking, disdainful glance sparked something in him.
"Oh, no, you don’t!" Jeff yelled, gripping his spear tightly and taking off after the rabbit.
The chase was on. But his speed was not that great since he was carrying the knockout rabbits—a total of about four rabbits—and a bow and arrows.
So you can greatly see how difficult it is for him to maneuver his movements to dodge the obstacle in front of him and chase it.
The rabbit zigzagged through the dense bamboo forest with amazing agility, weaving between the towering stalks as if it had lived its entire life mastering the art of escape.
Well, the rabbit lived here, so it must have already mastered the art of escape if it can grow that big, which is about 1.8 feet tall.
Jeff struggled to keep up, his feet pounding against the uneven forest floor as branches snagged at his clothes and leaves brushed against his face.
"Stay still, you little devil!" Jeff growled, raising his spear.
As if sensing the imminent danger, the rabbit made a sharp turn. Jeff hurled the spear in a desperate attempt to cut it off. The weapon flew true, slicing through the air—but the rabbit was quicker.

It leaped over the spear as it embedded itself into the ground with a dull thud.
"Are you kidding me?" Jeff muttered, retrieving the spear and resuming the chase.
The rabbit led him through a maze of bamboo stalks, the sound of its tiny paws drumming on the forest floor taunting him.
Every time he thought he had it cornered, it found a new gap to slip through, its movements almost mocking him to continue and catch him.
Jeff lunged forward, hoping to grab it, but the rabbit ducked under a fallen branch at the last second, leaving Jeff to stumble and barely catch himself against a tree.
"Where you a snake in your past life, you’re so slippery," Jeff huffed, wiping sweat from his brow.
The chase continued, Jeff’s frustration mounting with every second. He tried to predict the rabbit’s movements, cutting it off by darting ahead, but the creature was always one step ahead.
Its small size and uncanny awareness of the terrain made it nearly impossible to catch.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the rabbit reached a particularly dense patch of bamboo and disappeared between the stalks.
Jeff slowed to a halt, panting heavily, his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
He looked around, scanning the area for any sign of the elusive creature, but it was as if the rabbit had vanished into thin air.
"You win this round," he muttered begrudgingly, straightening up and shaking his head.
As he turned back toward his original path, his shoulders slumped in defeat. "If I ever see you again, let’s just see how I punish you," he said, taking a mental note.
When he was taking note, Jeff adjusted his grip on the spear and prepared to retrace his steps back to camp. When suddenly something caught his eye to the right.
He paused his movements and held his breath as he looked toward the sight.
What lay before him was a massive, unsettling trail carved into the forest floor. The ground was unnaturally compacted and smooth, as though something colossal had crawled its way through the area.
The dense bamboo grove that should have stood tall was instead left in ruins. The stalks snapped like twigs, some bent unnaturally low, and others splintered and scattered across the forest floor.
Jeff’s eyes darted across the scene, his heart pounding in his chest. The trail was immense, easily wider than his arm span, and extended far beyond his line of sight, disappearing into the shadowy depths of the bamboo forest.
"What the hell could’ve done this?" he murmured, gripping his spear tighter.
The destruction seemed fresh as if it had happened just yesterday. Broken bamboo leaves were still green and clung to their shattered bases.
But what scared him even more was that he found blood, black blood. He knows that it’s red blood from an animal.
This meant that after a day had passed, the blood would likely appear dark brown or black because of the environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature, of this island.
Also prolonged exposure to air and sunlight accelerates the oxidation process, further darkening the color.
Jeff knelt down, examining the ground closely. The impression left behind was deep, like whatever had passed through carried an immense weight.
There were no tracks, claw marks, or distinctive signs of what could’ve caused this devastation—only the imprint and the obliterated forest around it.
He swallowed hard, stepping back cautiously. "If this... this is another extinct creature, I really don’t want to meet it," he muttered, trying to shake off the growing unease that crept over him.
"This island is becoming more dangerous the more I explore," Jeff said, looking at the scene in front of him.
It’s like the closer he went deeper into the island, the more weird things he would discover.
He glanced at the trail one last time before forcing himself to turn away, taking mental note of its direction.
"Let’s stay out of trouble for now," he whispered to himself.
He knows that if he follows it, there’s a possibility he will find out what kind of creature created this. He had one in mind, and the possibility for this is another extinct animal
A snake, a big one at that. If he ever catches a glimpse of it and he was also spotted then the possibility of dying is up the chart.
It’s better to play safe, and why would he risk himself just from his assumptions and curiosity?
There’s a word said that curiosity kills, without wasting any time he then travelled back to his camp.
If you want to ask, this is the first time he ever went deeper into the island, but luckily, he had good memory. So even though he did not leave any marks, the memory of the way was still fresh in his mind.
The rabbit, his eyes fluttering open, was slung back onto Jeff’s shoulder with his buddies.
When he passed out he was just alone now theirs 4 of them, he can also see that they were also unconscious.
The rabbit tried to move, but he couldn’t due to its hindleg being tied with the rest, so he just lay on his back, looking at the world upside down.
After what felt like an hour, Jeff finally arrived, from where he had just saved the wolf. After walking for a while, he arrived at the place where he practiced the spear and all the way back to the bamboo stalks, from which he gathered the first supplies.
He stopped and rested for a moment as he put the rabbits in the ground. "All of you are actually awake. Don’t worry; we are close. So, enjoy this moment while it still lasts," Jeff suggested to the four rabbits.
They just glanced at each other, not knowing what he meant, but the wrath in their gaze was vivid.
Paying no attention to their expression, Jeff continued his journey back to the camp.
After walking for a while, he finally saw the familiar campsite. As he arrived, he noticed the girls gathered in a circle, looking down at something.
"Do you think the captain would be happy if he sees this?" Jessica murmured to the group.
"Of course, he would. What we just found is literally a survival boost," Ariana responded to his words.
"Is this thing really edible?" Emma asked, looking at it, feeling a bit skeptical.
Layla just besides her replied with a smile, "Yes, big sister, this vegetable is edible. Sometimes my mother boils it and makes it into soup. Not only that, but it also has lots of nutritious benefits."
Emma and Charlotte’s hearing this just made them awe-struck, indicating they understood it. This was the first time they had seen this vegetable in their lives.
The vegetable that was placed in the ground where they circled it is a starchy tuber that typically has a cylindrical shape with tapered ends. Its skin is rough, brown, and bark-like, giving it a somewhat rugged appearance.
It measures about 2 feet (60 cm) in length and has a diameter of around 8 inches (20 cm).
Ariana then lifted his head and saw a familiar silhouette; her smile became lively as she saw who it was.
"Hey, look, Captain is back," she said, looking at Jeff, who was carrying some cute rabbits in his hand.
"And he also had some cute rabbits with him! Ahh!" Ariana exclaimed, standing up as she ran towards Jeff, whose primary target was the rabbit.
The girls then looked at Jeff and saw the rabbit. Of course, girls like cute stuff, so when they saw the rabbit’s cute appearance, they were attracted to it.
Emma then took the rabbit from his grasp. They petted it, and they were filled with satisfaction as they caressed its fur.
Jeff, who was being ignored, felt sad. Charlotte, who was already satisfied from playing with the rabbit, walked towards the young man. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Why don’t you take a look at what the girls find during their search? I think you would be happy," She said towards her, pointing at the vegetable where they were circling earlier.
Looking at his finger tips he followed the pointed area and he saw it, it made his eyes sparkle as he saw what kind of vegetable it was.
