Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 478 Chen Nuo’s Worries Emerged
"Mr. Monkey!" Tian Peng looked at Sun Wukong with a complaining gaze, "Fairy Chang’e asked me to help solve a problem, and if I can’t solve it for her, how can we take our relationship to the next level? Help me out, and I promise I won’t bother you with trivial things ever again!"
This was indeed not an easy task. Sun Wukong had never been to Guanghan Palace, but he had a rough idea of its size.
Tian Peng told him it was teeming with rabbits, at least tens of thousands of them.
"So what do you want to do? Even if these rabbits aren’t Jade Rabbits, they’re still its descendants. It won’t be easy to deal with them. Even if you tell me, I have no solution. What did the Jade Rabbit say?" Sun Wukong inquired.
"The Jade Rabbit said she’s also fed up with these rabbits and told us to get rid of them by any means necessary. Whatever method we use is fine as long as we can get them out of here."
"Well, that makes things easier," Sun Wukong slapped his thigh cheerfully. "Rabbit meat is so delicious, all lean, too. We’ll talk to Master later and see if he can come up with any new recipes using these rabbits."
"Ah? Are we really going to eat them?" Tian Peng hesitated. These rabbits had been raised by Chang’e for so many years. If he told Chang’e they were taken away to be eaten, wouldn’t that make her very sad?
Seeing Tian Peng’s expression, Sun Wukong knew what he was thinking. "Eating them is the best solution. If you can’t do that, then let her keep raising them!"
"Wait a minute, Mr. Monkey. It’s not that I don’t agree with you, but Chang’e is a goddess after all. What if she gets heartbroken when we tell her this solution?"
"Whatever you think," Sun Wukong said, seeing Tian Peng’s hesitation, not wanting to argue with him over such a matter. "I’m going back to sleep now. I’ve been busy all day and I deserve some rest."
Tian Peng quickly stopped Sun Wukong, "How about you ask the Shopkeeper what kind of dishes can be made with these rabbits?"
"I don’t know either. You wait for a bit. I’ll ask Master whenever I’m free and back at the store," Sun Wukong was saying when Chen Nuo sent him a telepathic message, "Master, what’s the matter?"
Seeing it was Chen Nuo, Tian Peng immediately stopped his actions and watched Sun Wukong speak.
"Alright, okay, we’ll go back first, and I will tell you when we get there," after finishing the conversation with Chen Nuo, Sun Wukong turned to Tian Peng, "Master is calling us back. He says something’s up, so let’s go back first."
With their mana activated, they rode the Immortal Clouds back to Chaos Residence.
Chen Nuo was sitting in front of a stone table drinking tea. Sun Wukong and Tian Peng came in from outside and gave Chen Nuo a bow, "Master, I have returned."
"Shopkeeper, we are back."
Chen Nuo nodded and motioned for them to sit down.
Sun Wukong and Tian Peng took their seats beside Chen Nuo.
"Shopkeeper, what’s the matter?" Tian Peng asked. "You normally don’t call us over in such a hurry."
"You fool, if Master calls us back, we come back. Why do you have to make such a fuss?" Sun Wukong glared at Tian Peng.
"No matter, this time it really is important," Chen Nuo put down his cup.
"What is it exactly?" Tian Peng asked.
"When I was in the mortal world, I saw a familiar person," Chen Nuo began, "Jin Chanzi has reincarnated."
Sun Wukong was startled, as it seemed like just the other day that he had dined with Jin Chanzi. How could it be that in the blink of an eye, Jin Chanzi had descended to the mortal world?
"How could it happen so fast? Wasn’t it just a few days ago that..."
"The time has already passed many years since I estimated the beginning of Buddhism’s Journey to the West," Chen Nuo said, "so they must have grown impatient by now. But since Buddhism hasn’t taken any action against Tian Peng, my guess is that either they have selected someone else, or the plan has already been set in motion."
Tian Peng listened blankly as Chen Nuo spoke. He remembered Chen Nuo telling him before that he was on the list of personnel for the Journey to the West plan.
But up until now, he hadn’t felt this matter had anything to do with him. How come in just a few days, Jin Chanzi had already descended to the mortal realm?
"Tian Peng, have you encountered anyone deliberately striking up a conversation with you at the milk tea shop lately?" Chen Nuo asked.
Tian Peng thought hard but couldn’t come up with a single name that should have been there, "No, I really haven’t met any strange people. Besides, there are so many customers at the milk tea shop. Usually, I just chat with people when I make their milk tea and haven’t come across anyone suspicious afterward."
"Really?" Chen Nuo held significant doubts about Tian Peng’s words, knowing he was careless; even if there were such a person, it was probable that Tian Peng wouldn’t have noticed, "Wukong, did you notice anything?"
Sun Wukong scratched his head, recalling. He hadn’t really paid much attention either. With the sheer volume of customers at the milk tea shop, neither he nor Tian Peng did much aside from asking about the customers’ orders for milk tea, and it was only fairies that would get a few extra words out of Tian Peng.
Thinking this, Sun Wukong answered honestly, "Master, I really haven’t paid much attention either. Tian Peng doesn’t really talk to the customers that much."
Hearing Sun Wukong say this, Tian Peng nodded, "You see, Shopkeeper, Mr. Monkey said so himself. I truly was just dutifully working and didn’t have any extraneous conversations with anyone."
But Sun Wukong hadn’t finished speaking; he continued from where he left off, "It’s just that I spoke some extra words and did a few extra things for several fairies."
Sun Wukong was actually telling the truth, leaving Tian Peng speechless and unsure of how to explain, so he just nodded along.
The thing Chen Nuo feared most was Tian Peng getting involved with fairies, he asked, "Which fairies?"
"Well, there aren’t that many fairies. They just asked me to add a bit extra to their order or if they could buy two cups at a time, nothing more," Tian Peng explained with a guilty conscience.
"Is that so?" Chen Nuo clearly wasn’t convinced by Tian Peng’s words, and in the company of his own people, Chen Nuo didn’t resort to using telepathy, making them speak out loud instead.
"Tian Peng, it seems you’ve missed someone out," Sun Wukong added.
"Ah, that person is just...," knowing he couldn’t speak carelessly in front of Chen Nuo, Tian Peng stuttered but couldn’t think of a good excuse.
"Wukong, you speak for him," Chen Nuo said, turning to Sun Wukong.
"He went looking for Fairy Chang’e yesterday," Sun Wukong said.
"I can explain that!" Tian Peng immediately interjected, "It’s just that Fairy Chang’e comes to buy milk tea every day, but she hadn’t for two days. So, I was wondering if she had run into some trouble and thought of paying her a visit. That’s all, Shopkeeper, I swear I’m telling the truth!"
It was better for him to come clean rather than letting Sun Wukong reveal it all, as that way, at least, he could benefit from turning himself in.
After Sun Wukong had just started speaking, Tian Peng quickly finished what Sun Wukong hadn’t said yet.
"Is that really everything?" Chen Nuo looked at Tian Peng with a probing gaze.
Tian Peng thought about it and shook his head, "Shopkeeper, I’m telling the truth, there’s nothing else."
Sun Wukong didn’t add anything further, suggesting that Tian Peng had indeed said all that there was.
Chen Nuo sighed deeply. Of all people, it just had to be Chang’e. In the original story, wasn’t Tian Peng demoted to the mortal realm for harassing Chang’e?
