Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 703 - 702
Xuanzang rode his horse and took a glance from afar. He remembered the dream he had and thus said, "Wukong, for some reason, I always feel as if something in the direction of Eagle Sorrow Stream is guiding me. Why don’t we head that way first, and after we pass Eagle Sorrow Stream, we can look for a place to rest? What do you think?"
Six-Eared Macaque had just quarreled with Xuanzang and was now obediently admitting his mistake, so naturally, he would agree to whatever was suggested. So, he nodded and replied, "Master, wherever you say we should go, I will follow."
The master and disciple headed toward Eagle Sorrow Stream, and upon arriving, Six-Eared Macaque suddenly stopped. The aura of this place was indeed quite unusual.
Xuanzang, being a mortal, couldn’t perceive anything out of the ordinary.
Assuming that the environment here was naturally precipitous, he couldn’t help but comment, "This place is so perilous; no wonder I’ve always felt uneasy. It seems that passing through here is indeed not going to be easy."
"Master, this place doesn’t seem to be just inherently perilous to me," said the Six-Eared Macaque. "It’s more like there has just been a fight here."
"Ah?" Xuanzang was greatly surprised and quickly asked, "Will we encounter any trouble if we continue?"
After a brief investigation of the area and a careful examination of the lingering energies, Six-Eared Macaque found nothing unusual and replied, "Master, it seems there’s no longer any cause for concern here; it’s not a recent occurrence."
Xuanzang breathed a sigh of relief. He looked around the area carefully but found nothing amiss. "Wukong, what exactly happened here?"
The Six-Eared Macaque answered, "Disciple hasn’t discovered anything unusual. By the looks of it, there must have been a fight, but beyond that, disciple knows nothing."
"I see," Xuanzang said. He felt extremely disordered and uneasy, and quickly added, "It seems this place is not suitable for a long stay. Wukong, let’s hurry on our way to avoid getting involved in anything that might recur."
The Six-Eared Macaque also felt they should not linger too long. While unaware of what exactly had transpired, the evidence of a fight and the fractured cliff faces spoke volumes.
This must have been a significant event. His master, a mere mortal, would depend on him to handle any ensuing situations. Indeed, they could not afford to stay here much longer.
"Master, you are right, let’s hurry on our way," said the Six-Eared Macaque as he quickly led the horse forward.
They had just left when Bodhisattva Guanyin arrived to help subdue Little White Dragon, only to find the area bereft of the expected fighting scene between Little White Dragon and Six-Eared Macaque. Instead, it seemed a battle had already taken place.
Doubt rose in his heart. Could he be too late?
Seeing the severe traces of battle, even if one side had prevailed, surely the other must be dead or injured.
Both sides likely met with an unfortunate fate. Bodhisattva Guanyin felt the situation slipping out of his control. Everything he had calculated before seemed to be going according to plan, so how could he have arrived too late?
Bodhisattva Guanyin worried that Little White Dragon might truly be dead. If that were the case, not only would the Journey to the West be hindered, but the Dragon Clan would certainly not let the matter rest easily.
He immediately began to investigate underwater, but after a thorough search, Bodhisattva Guanyin found nothing—no trace of Little White Dragon and not even a drop of blood. What on earth had happened?
Could Little White Dragon have left with Xuanzang and Six-Eared Macaque without his knowledge?
Without lingering any longer, Bodhisattva Guanyin left Eagle Sorrow Stream to find Xuanzang and his disciple.
Xuanzang and the Six-Eared Macaque were not moving very fast, and Bodhisattva Guanyin soon caught up with them, but did not see the scene she had anticipated.
The horse remained the same, not the Little White Dragon, and the demeanor of the master and his disciple seemed quite normal; they did not display any signs of panic as she had imagined.
However, the more tranquil the scenario, the more doubts Bodhisattva Guanyin harbored. If nothing was amiss with them, how could there be traces of a fierce battle at Eagle Sorrow Stream, and where exactly had the Little White Dragon gone?
Bodhisattva Guanyin revealed herself in front of the disciple and his master.
Xuanzang was riding his horse tirelessly when suddenly the white horse halted, and before him appeared a holy light. The holy light was so dazzling that Xuanzang could hardly open his eyes. It took him a while to get accustomed to it, and when he finally opened his eyes, he saw that amidst the holy light was none other than Bodhisattva Guanyin herself.
"Disciple Xuanzang bows in respect to Bodhisattva Guanyin!" Upon recognizing the figure, Xuanzang quickly dismounted and paid his respects to Bodhisattva Guanyin.
"Stand up." Despite the many doubts in her heart, Bodhisattva Guanyin still maintained her composure. With the Cleansing Bottle in one hand and lifting the other, she signaled Xuanzang to rise.
As Xuanzang stood up, he noticed the Six-Eared Macaque remained stationary, which alarmed him greatly. He hurried to pull Six Ears to pay respects to Guanyin, but was refused by the Bodhisattva.
"It’s all right, all beings are equal, there’s no need for such strict formalities." Bodhisattva Guanyin lifted her hand again, sparing Six Ears the need for understanding. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"May I inquire if Bodhisattva has come to instruct your disciple in some matter?" asked Xuanzang.
"Did you encounter any demons when you passed through Eagle Sorrow Stream just now?"
Upon hearing this, Xuanzang and the Six-Eared Macaque exchanged glances, both already aware of what Bodhisattva Guanyin was inquiring about.
Xuanzang replied, "As we passed through Eagle Sorrow Stream, my disciple and I noticed signs of a struggle, but we did not encounter any demons. Presumably, the fight had ceased. We did not dare to linger and hastily left the area."
Bodhisattva Guanyin had initially thought that Six Ears and the Little White Dragon were behind this, but after listening to Xuanzang, it seemed that the matter had been settled before their arrival.
So, who exactly fought with the Little White Dragon, and where had the White Dragon gone? Was he alive or dead? And if he truly had died, how would she explain this to the Dragon Clan?
In an instant, Bodhisattva Guanyin felt overwhelmed; everything seemed well-planned, yet somehow, unexpected eventualities had arisen at the last moment.
Now, not only was the matter of Little White Dragon’s involvement in the Journey to the West put on hold, but she also needed to find out his whereabouts.
"Bodhisattva, may I ask what transpired here at Eagle Sorrow Stream?" Seeing that the Bodhisattva remained silent with an unreadable expression, Xuanzang spoke up.
"Now that you have passed Eagle Sorrow Stream, just continue on your way to the Western Heaven to seek scriptures." Bodhisattva Guanyin certainly wouldn’t disclose such matters to Xuanzang and casually found an excuse to skirt the issue.
"Disciple respects and follows the Bodhisattva’s teachings." Xuanzang immediately kneeled to show his respects to Bodhisattva Guanyin.
The Six-Eared Macaque felt that the appearance of the Bodhisattva was somewhat peculiar. It wasn’t until after Bodhisattva Guanyin had left that he spoke up to Xuanzang, "Master, I find it to be quite a coincidence that the Bodhisattva appeared when she did."
"Why do you say that?" asked Xuanzang, but then he felt it was highly improper and hastily brought his hands together.
"My offense, my offense, one should not speak of others behind their backs. The Bodhisattva must have had her reasons for stopping us. It’s simply not our place to question, so let’s not inquire any further."
