Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 722 - 721: The Real Sun Wukong Comes to Deliver Food
The denizens of the Heavenly Realm and those from Buddhism all obeyed orders; without these commands, he was nothing in their hearts. So he needed to make more friends on his own; that way, he had some assurance since they would do it for him, not just because of orders.
Bodhisattva Guanyin thought it over and decided it was just a day’s worth of time, which wouldn’t delay any significant affairs.
Since he was willing to join the Buddhist Robe Assembly, let him attend. As long as it didn’t interfere with things, that was fine. As for the Six-Eared Macaque, well, whatever.
On the day of the Buddhist Robe Assembly, Sun Wukong had already prepared the dishes pre-ordered by Xiong Daoren. Once he received Daoren’s address, he hurried over there.
"Yo, how did you get here so quickly?" Xiong Daoren was surprised to see Sun Wukong, thinking that he was the Six-Eared Macaque. He glanced behind Wukong but didn’t see Xuanzang, "Where’s your master? Weren’t you supposed to come together?"
"What? My master never said he’d come. Are you dreaming?" Sun Wukong glared at him.
Daoren quickly realized whom he was dealing with from the familiar tone, "Wukong, oh dear, look at my memory. Wukong, you’re here to deliver the food, right?"
"Certainly not just that." Sun Wukong took out the already prepared dishes from his space ring, "I’m here for more than just delivering food."
Daoren instantly understood what Sun Wukong meant and said with a laugh, "Wukong, I’ve already prepared the stuff for you; just wait a moment, I’ll go and fetch it."
"Right, where’s that treasured item of yours? You said you’d let me have a look at it at the Buddhist Robe Assembly. Where’s the treasure?" Sun Wukong began to look around as soon as he put down the dishes.
"Oh, Wukong, about that treasure," Daoren rubbed his hands together, "I didn’t obtain it through regular channels; I stole it."
Sun Wukong chuckled, "What’s wrong with that? If you had the skill to get it, it’s yours. What are you afraid of?"
"It’s not that I’m afraid, but the Shopkeeper has already taken care of that for me," said Daoren.
"Then you have even less to worry about. Everything is settled, and you still can’t let me see it? Why are you so stingy?" Sun Wukong teased him.
"Come on, I cooked all those dishes for you and even delivered them here. Can’t I have a look at your treasure?"
Daoren calculated the time; the guests would soon arrive.
He wasn’t being stingy in showing Sun Wukong, but was rather worried that he would be caught showing the real Kasaya to Wukong just when Xuanzang and the Six-Eared Macaque arrived.
"Mr. Monkey, I’m not being stingy, it’s just that it’s not quite appropriate at the moment," Daoren explained.
"Why isn’t it appropriate?" Sun Wukong was getting a bit angry, "What did you say before, huh? Didn’t you say you’d let me see your treasured item at the Buddhist Robe Assembly?"
"Yes, I did say that, but Wukong, it really isn’t a good time right now," Daoren said helplessly.
Since he didn’t explain why, Sun Wukong naturally thought that Daoren simply didn’t want to show it to him and was deliberately stalling.
"Fine, you won’t show me your thing, huh?" Sun Wukong began to pack up, "Anyway, I’m not that keen on your treasure. I won’t look anymore. And I don’t care to let you have the dishes either. You sort it out yourself."
This left Daoren in a bind. The dishes were a minor issue, but truly angering Sun Wukong? That would be a serious problem.
"Don’t be like that, Wukong, please don’t be angry."
Sun Wukong brushed away Daoren’s hand as he tried to stop him, "Who said I was angry? I’m not angry."
"Wukong, I apologize!" Daoren grabbed Sun Wukong’s arm, stopping him from packing the dishes, "Don’t be mad, I really didn’t mean to hide it from you. There’s a reason."
"Oh, is that so?" Sun Wukong sneered, "Whether you show it to me or not, I’ve already lost interest. Take your hand away; I’m heading back to Chaos Residence."
Xiong Daoren took out the kasaya from his space, "This is that treasure."
Sun Wukong stopped his movement and looked at the kasaya, "Is this the treasure you were talking about?"
"Yes, it’s this one." Xiong Daoren nodded his head, "I’m about to make a breakthrough soon, and there will be thunder tribulation when breaking through. Many who cultivate endure the hardships, but not the thunder tribulation. I fear that I may not withstand it, so I want to get everything ready in advance."
"I really don’t see what’s so good about becoming immortal." Sun Wukong picked up the kasaya; it indeed seemed to be a treasure. He had seen many magic artifacts, but ones of the quality of this kasaya were truly rare. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"I don’t think becoming an immortal is anything great either." Xiong Daoren followed Wukong’s remark, "But since everyone wants to become immortal, I think that, bad as it may be, it’s better than being a demon."
"I don’t see it that way. Being a demon is so carefree, no one bothers you about anything." Sun Wukong looked at the kasaya for a while and then threw it back to Xiong Daoren, "It’s not that great to look at. But since you treasure it so much, you better keep it safe."
Xiong Daoren was at a loss whether to laugh or cry, "It’s not that I’m afraid of you seeing it, Wukong. It’s really because there are reasons why I can’t just show it."
"Say whatever you want." Sun Wukong was indifferent, "It’s really not that impressive. Anyway, I’ve seen it now, so I’m off."
"Aren’t you going to have dinner before you leave, Wukong?" Xiong Daoren asked.
Sun Wukong gave him a blank look, "What’s the point of eating, especially when it’s made by myself? Have you ever seen someone attending a banquet and eating their own cooking?"
Xiong Daoren scratched his head, "Heh, that’s true. In that case, Mr. Monkey, I won’t keep you any longer."
Sun Wukong waved his hand, ready to leave, when someone arrived from outside.
"Big brother, I’ve come with my master to congratulate you."
The voice sounded familiar to Sun Wukong. Just as he was about to stick his head out to look, Xiong Daoren stopped him.
"What are you doing? Who’s that coming to congratulate you, and you won’t let me, Old Sun, have a look?"
"Ah, no, that’s not it, Wukong. I’m not saying I don’t want you to see, it’s just that you can’t meet him face to face." Xiong Daoren explained.
Sun Wukong retracted his head, looking at Xiong Daoren with puzzlement, "What do you mean?"
"The one congratulating you is the Six-Eared Macaque and the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi."
Sun Wukong paused, "How did they get here? That’s not right. Didn’t you tell me that this kasaya belonged to the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi? Then why would they come to your Buddhist Robe Assembly?"
"The shopkeeper has already sorted it out." Xiong Daoren said, "The shopkeeper made a kasaya that’s almost like the real thing, for me to use to deceive—no, to return to them, and so I returned it to them."
Sun Wukong was somewhat shocked but also felt it was fitting. After all, the one who took action was his master, and with his master’s intervention, what could not be accomplished?
"So their coming here to attend your Buddhist Robe Assembly is a gesture of making amends with you?"
Xiong Daoren nodded, "Pretty much, you could say that. I didn’t originally intend to invite them. It was unexpected, but the Six-Eared Macaque himself expressed a wish to attend my assembly, and I couldn’t refuse."
Sun Wukong had been planning to leave, but now, hearing that the imposter was present, he smiled. Things were about to get interesting.
"I’m not leaving anymore. You’re right, I really should sit down and have a meal before I go."
