Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 740 - 739: Discussion Concluded
After setting the table for drinks, Chen Nuo prepared the appetizers, spicy crayfish, cold rabbit meat, cumin lamb, shredded beef in soy sauce, and ever since the Mountain God had that meal of stone pot grilled meat, he had been looking forward to when he could have a meal made by Chen Nuo again.
Later, once he learned how big a store Chen Nuo had opened from Jin Zha, the Mountain God gave up on the idea. With such a large establishment, it was already fortunate for a Mountain God like him to have had a meal there; he dared not fantasize about having another.
Just when he thought he couldn’t indulge in Chen Nuo’s cooking again, Chen Nuo actually showed up at his door with fine wine and dishes.
The Mountain God first downed several cups of Peach Blossom Wine and then turned his attention to the dishes Chen Nuo had prepared.
"I’ve specially prepared these dishes to accompany the drinks," Chen Nuo said as he pointed to each dish and introduced them, then he added,
"I know the Mountain God likes to drink, and it’s not just Peach Blossom Wine. I’ve actually brewed a kind of drink recently, called ’beer.’ You might want to try it. I think it goes even better with these appetizers."
The Mountain God was slightly surprised, "There’s more wine? What kind of wine?"
Chen Nuo first took out a beer mug from his space and placed it in front of the Mountain God, then prepared to bring out the beer.
Seeing the mug, the Mountain God was utterly amazed, "This, such a big mug, don’t let it kill someone from drinking too much, oh, we can’t die, but for this lifetime, it’s still a tad too large."
"This drink isn’t high in alcohol content," Chen Nuo explained while a keg magically appeared in his hand, "Consider it a beverage. It’s really about having this kind of drink with the appetizers to make them taste even better."
The Mountain God had never had beer, but he trusted Chen Nuo’s culinary skill completely. Whatever he said was taken as truth, so the Mountain God nodded and waited for Chen Nuo to pour his drink.
Chen Nuo, holding the mug, filled up two cups from the keg and then placed the beer mug back in front of the Mountain God, "Try this."
The Mountain God took the mug, tilted his head back, and took a sip of beer. Bubbles hit his tongue first, bursting upon his taste buds like a myriad of fine needles exploding on his tongue. After swallowing, the cool sensation shot straight up to his mind,
"Refreshing!" the Mountain God couldn’t help but exclaim, "This beer and Peach Blossom Wine really offer two different experiences. The Peach Blossom Wine is very mild, both in taste and flavor, suitable for sipping slowly."
"But this beer is completely different. With one sip, my whole body is invigorated by the beer. It’s truly refreshing. I’ve never experienced this kind of taste before."
Chen Nuo smiled and clinked his mug with the Mountain God’s, "As long as you like it, let’s eat."
All the dishes on the table were rich in flavor, which, combined with the beer, was incredibly stimulating.
There were so many dishes the Mountain God had not tasted before, and each one brought a sense of novelty. Paired with the beer, the satisfaction was indescribable, and the Mountain God felt as if the emotions that had been dormant for years were awakened by this meal.
As they ate, the two of them chatted about big mountains. Neither of them was particularly sociable, and their conversation was concise, but everything said was to the other’s liking. By the end of the meal, the Mountain God felt more and more inclined to befriend Shopkeeper Chen.
"Chen, knowing you is indeed a great blessing for me," said the Mountain God, "all thanks to Jin Zha. It’s a pity I can’t leave this place; otherwise, I would definitely go to your store to eat and not just keep guard here."
"Knowing you is also a great blessing for me," Chen Nuo replied earnestly.
Truth be told, it was really thanks to Jin Zha. Had he not gotten to know the Mountain God, he might still be worrying about where exactly to open his sweet treat shop. But now that he knows the Mountain God, he doesn’t have to worry about it anymore.
As the meal was coming to an end and the wine had been almost fully enjoyed, the Mountain God seemed to remember Chen Nuo had mentioned he had a favor to ask when he came looking for him. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Chen, you mentioned earlier today when you came to find me that you had a favor to ask. What is it?" the Mountain God inquired. "If there’s any way I can help, I will definitely do so."
Finally, they got to the heart of the matter. Chen Nuo put down his wine cup, sighed deeply, his expression troubled, and then spoke, "Actually, it’s not that difficult, but I really can’t solve it on my own. I wouldn’t want to trouble anyone unless it was necessary."
Seeing Chen Nuo’s expression, the Mountain God thought it must be a tricky situation. Having just enjoyed Chen’s food and drink, he felt it was only right to take action when asked for help, even if he might not be able to assist.
Therefore, he eagerly asked, "Chen, let’s not beat around the bush. Just tell me what it is. Seeing as you’ve sought me out, I’m certain I can help. Speak frankly about your issue, and I’ll do my best to assist."
"Having your word, Mountain God, eases my mind a great deal," Chen Nuo’s brow slightly relaxed as he spoke.
"In fact, this matter is not so troublesome. My restaurant sells stir-fry dishes, and I don’t want to stick to just that, so I’ve developed a new line called sweet treats. This is completely different from stir-fry; it’s a whole different business. So, I figured if I’m going to open a sweet treat shop, it obviously can’t be on Spirit Mountain anymore."
Hearing this, the Mountain God understood what Chen Nuo meant and what the purpose of his visit was.
"So, Chen, you’re seeking me out because...?"
Chen Nuo didn’t immediately respond. First, he looked outside at the vast expanse of white snow and then said, "The scenery here is truly beautiful."
His words were both implicit and explicit. Even someone as simple as the Mountain God now fully understood.
Chen Nuo had taken a liking to the scenery here and wanted to open a place on the mountain to make sweet treats.
The Mountain God didn’t know exactly what these sweet treats were. According to Chen Nuo, they seemed to be completely different from stir-fries. But in the end, it all revolved around the same concept—food.
"Chen, you fancy the scenery here, hence you wish to open a sweet treat shop?" Since Chen Nuo had hinted so obviously, the Mountain God frankly voiced the matter.
"My sweet treat shop will not be open to ordinary people, so even if I do open it, it won’t affect anything on Mount Taihang," Chen Nuo explained. "I thought since I know you, I should ask for your advice before discussing the opening of a shop."
Chen Nuo was right; the Mountain God was only responsible for overseeing the safety of the mountain and its vicinity. He had no jurisdiction over business ventures.
Since Chen had reached out to him, it showed that he respected the Mountain God, and he had approached him with a good attitude, bringing fine wines and dishes. If the Mountain God were to refuse, it would indeed seem unreasonable.
It wasn’t like the Mountain God didn’t want Chen to open a shop there. However, if he did, the Mountain God might end up encountering more people.
He didn’t really like meeting others, not even other immortals. Usually spending his time alone on the mountain, meeting one or two individuals was tolerable. But if he had to meet so many people, he would really feel uncomfortable, and he wasn’t inclined to interact with so many individuals.
