Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 754 - 753: Using Lies to Verify Lies
Lady Nuwa’s attention was completely on the egg tarts at the time, naturally she also did not notice Chen Nuo’s condition; otherwise, seeing Chen Nuo’s reaction would have surely excited her.
Chen Nuo only took half a minute to compose himself, he retracted his gaze, coughed lightly, and then redirected his attention.
However, that cough caught Lady Nuwa’s attention, she looked at Chen Nuo with a tilted head and asked, "Shopkeeper Chen, it’s really magical that you just coughed."
Chen Nuo nodded; he had already sorted out his emotions.
So even though Lady Nuwa now inquired about his condition, he could quickly come up with a reply, "Hmm, probably inhaled some cooking fumes earlier."
Lady Nuwa frowned, "But I heard you have just returned from the mortal realm. Did you cook there too?"
Chen Nuo hadn’t thought about that aspect and almost couldn’t cope, but fortunately Lady Nuwa gave him a way out, so he went along with Lady Nuwa’s lead.
"Hmm, after all, there’s some discrepancy in time between the mortal realm and here. According to mortal realm’s time, I’ve been there for almost a month already, so of course, I would cook for myself."
Lady Nuwa nodded; what Shopkeeper Chen said made sense, and she did not at all attribute the reason for Chen Nuo’s cough to anything related to herself.
"Then can you heal yourself, Shopkeeper? I know healing spells, if you need it I can help you at any time."
Chen Nuo was originally planning to refuse, but he thought about the palpitations he had just felt.
What exactly happened to him, could it be, he was truly moved by Lady Nuwa?
No, if that was the case, he really needed to verify whether he was indeed moved by Lady Nuwa, so he accepted Lady Nuwa’s offer, "Then thank you, Lady Nuwa."
Lady Nuwa nodded and hurriedly lowered her head to eat the egg tart again.
Shopkeeper Chen seems a bit odd after coming back from the mortal realm this time, Lady Nuwa thought.
Previously, no matter what kind of help she wanted to offer, Shopkeeper Chen would tactfully decline unless he really couldn’t manage on his own, but what about today?
This healing spell is the most basic spell, and for Shopkeeper Chen to agree to let her help, it was indeed quite strange.
But as curious as it was, Shopkeeper’s agreement to let her help with the healing made Lady Nuwa very happy; it meant that her relationship with Chen Nuo seemed to have moved a step closer.
Even though this step wasn’t very big, a small step today, a big step tomorrow, who knows, maybe one day Shopkeeper Chen will fall for her.
Thinking this way, suddenly Lady Nuwa felt the path ahead of her brighten considerably.
Chen Nuo gulped down two mouthfuls of tea, he really was a bit slow on the uptake, unknowingly he had gotten closer to Lady Nuwa.
Even though it wasn’t his subjective wish to get closer to Lady Nuwa, because she often came to see him and time passed, he seemed to have gotten used to this way of interacting with her.
When exactly did he start to feel that Lady Nuwa seeking him out without reason became quite normal?
And the cake as well, despite having so many disciples and colleagues, the first person he thought to call was Lady Nuwa.
By now, Lady Nuwa had finished an egg tart and was waiting for Chen Nuo to recommend something else; seeing him not moving, she spoke up, "Shopkeeper Chen?"
"Hmm?" Chen Nuo snapped back to reality, seeing the puzzled look Lady Nuwa cast him, he then reacted and pushed a Dirty Daifuku toward her, "This is Dirty Daifuku, it has a heart of chocolate biscuit crumbs, and is filled with cream."
Nuwa took it and lowered her head to continue eating.
Since they were all sweet treats, there was hardly any difference besides the varying craft of making them, especially since they all belonged to the same series. Eating them became even less differentiated.
Although they were still delicious, the initial surprise and delight had faded.
Chen Nuo watched as Nuwa, her head bowed as she ate the sweets, got cocoa powder on her lips again.
Just as Nuwa was about to instinctively lick the corner of her mouth, Chen Nuo took a handkerchief from his space and handed it to her, "Use this to wipe it."
Nuwa paused, and then it dawned on her. Before she could speak, her face had turned red, "Is it all over my mouth? Do you have a mirror? I’d like to check."
"No, it’s just a bit at the corner of your mouth," Chen Nuo said. "Just use the handkerchief to wipe it off."
Seeing the sincerity in Chen Nuo’s eyes, Nuwa believed he wasn’t lying. She took the handkerchief, wiped the corner of her mouth, and then looked up, "Is it gone?"
"Mhm." Chen Nuo nodded and turned his face to drink tea.
When Nuwa finished her daifuku, the joy in her eyes was impossible to hide.
She was already delighted to have been invited by Chen Nuo to enjoy treats. For some reason, her happiness grew as she continued eating the sweets.
It was not excitement per se, but more a feeling that everything in this world seemed worth savoring, everywhere was likely to make one’s mood delightful.
"Do you like them?" Chen Nuo asked, noticing the shift in Nuwa’s mood.
Her spirits had been high since she arrived, but after finishing the sweets, her mood seemed even more uplifted.
Nuwa nodded emphatically, "They really are delicious. I don’t know why, but after eating these sweets, my mood is incredibly good. It’s as if nothing at this time could upset me, it’s truly odd."
"It’s not strange at all," Chen Nuo said. "Sweets naturally make people feel good, so it’s normal for your mood to be uplifted after eating them."
Sweets inherently boost one’s mood, and since these were made by himself, it was to be expected that such a marked effect would show after consuming them.
Nuwa found it astonishing, but then she thought about how eating Shopkeeper Chen’s cooking could even awaken divine skills, so merely improving her mood was not that surprising after all.
Yet, the variety did seem a bit much. Nuwa touched her stomach, wondering if she should use a spell to aid digestion.
Thinking about the treats she had just eaten, whether tart, daifuku, or cake, each one was delightful. The thought of using Dharma to expedite digestion seemed a pity; she couldn’t bear to part with any of them.
"Shopkeeper Chen, I noticed you coughing just now. How about I treat your cough first?" Nuwa debated for a while and ultimately decided not to digest away any of the sweets.
She felt it would be better to first help Chen Nuo with his cough, so she wouldn’t feel too full later on.
"What’s the matter?" Chen Nuo asked. "Aren’t you going to finish the sweets before treating me?"
Nuwa looked a bit sheepish, not wanting to admit that she was worried about feeling too full, which is why she wanted to take a break before continuing to eat. She simply said, "I think the sweets are less important than your health."
If Chen Nuo hadn’t spoken in such a content tone, he might have actually believed her.
He looked at the table brimming with sweets, thinking that he too might not be able to finish them all in one go. These weren’t supposed to be the main course, but more like snacks with tea.
