Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 762 - 761: Six-Eared Macaque Wants to Eat Ginseng Fruit
Everyone present, except for Tang Monk and his disciples, understood what he meant.
Six-Eared Macaque asked directly, "Old man, what do you mean by your words? What do you mean by ’only two people’?"
Master Zhenyuan couldn’t be bothered to talk to Six-Eared Macaque, he simply glanced at Six-Eared Macaque then looked away, no longer paying him any attention, just like if nobody had spoken at all.
Six-Eared Macaque thought Master Zhenyuan had not heard clearly what he was saying.
He repeated it, but still did not receive a response.
"Are you deaf or something, old man? I’ve made myself perfectly clear, yet you still won’t answer me?" Six-Eared Macaque, feeling ignored, said to Master Zhenyuan angrily and impatiently.
"Wukong, don’t be disrespectful," Xuanzang interrupted Six-Eared Macaque, who was, in fact, completely unconcerned about being ignored, and bowed towards Master Zhenyuan. He then said, "Our Master and disciple have always been just the two of us. I wonder why Master speaks of four people?"
Master Zhenyuan treated Xuanzang with kindness, after all, he respected Jin Chanzi and had already made the best possible deal with those above: he could give them a hard time, but was not to let them get injured.
"Have you only taken on a single disciple during your journey?" Master Zhenyuan asked, "Isn’t that a bit odd?"
"There’s nothing odd about it, I’m not someone who is eager to take on disciples. Besides, although my disciple can sometimes be naughty, he is mostly very good. Having such a disciple, I am already very content, and thus have no desire for others," Xuanzang responded with a well-spoken answer that was so flattering it even made Six-Eared Macaque a bit embarrassed, though only Xuanzang himself knew the true reason behind these words.
Chen Nuo was listening on the side without speaking; whether Tang Xuanzang was simple or something else, it was originally Chen Nuo who had poached his disciple.
And according to what Sun Wukong had said, this Jin Chanzi was not a bad person either. Were it not for the Journey to the West, it is quite possible that he and Sun Wukong could have become good friends.
As a result, one became a monk in the mundane world, and the other became a chef under his own command. Fortunately, he had put a lot of effort into training Sun Wukong, who turned out to be the most fortunate one.
"What Tang Sanzang has said is true. Qingfeng, take them down to rest, Mingyue, fetch two Ginseng Fruits for the elder," Master Zhenyuan instructed.
The two attendants, upon receiving the orders, took a tray and left; in no time, they returned with two freshly picked Ginseng Fruits, both as fresh and animated as the ones from last night.
Seeing this scene, Xuanzang was so frightened he almost fell off his chair, "Ah! This, this..."
He stammered and struggled to speak, which created a stark contrast to Chen Nuo’s composure from the previous day.
Mingyue and Qingfeng couldn’t help but laugh upon seeing this scene. It was just a fruit; the monk’s reaction seemed a bit too much, didn’t it?
Six-Eared Macaque quickly helped Xuanzang stabilize himself in his seat, then coldly glared at Qingfeng and Mingyue, who had just snickered, "Did my Master offend you in some way? How can you mock him with such an affair?"
Master Zhenyuan lowered his head to drink tea as if the incident had never occurred; he concerned himself with none of this.
He originally intended to find them a place to rest first. The Ginseng Fruit was precious, and Jin Chanzi was barely worthy of it in his eyes; his disciple was not even entitled to the honor of seeing it.
For some reason, the agreement for three disciples was now down to just one, and Master Zhenyuan couldn’t be bothered to proceed as originally planned.
Tang Xuanzang’s soul was uneasy as he looked at the Ginseng Fruit and said, "Isn’t this a Daoist temple? Why would you partake in such immoral actions?"
Mingyue wanted to laugh but restrained himself, replying, "What are you talking about? What do you mean by immoral? If you think we did something wrong, lay it out, point by point."
Tang Xuanzang pointed to the Ginseng Fruit, "It’s not easy to carry a baby for ten months, how can you justify plucking them before they have matured, and even giving them away to others? This truly can’t be justified, Amitabha, Amitabha."
Mingyue chuckled and then said, "This thing is not a real person, it’s fruit. You, monk, can’t see clearly and are making a fuss about it; take a closer look, this is fruit."
Tang Xuanzang was timid, and simply seeing such a scene made him afraid. He dared not look closely again, whether it was fruit or a real person, he didn’t care anymore. This thing was too horrifying; he didn’t want to see it a second time.
"Take it away, just take it away. I simply do not have the fortune to enjoy such a thing," Tang Xuanzang turned his face away, refusing to look at the object.
"Are you sure you don’t want it? This thing is a Spiritual Treasure, overflowing with Spiritual Power. Eating it will strengthen your body and keep you forever young," Mingyue said.
Since the fruit had already been picked, it would truly be a waste not to eat it, so he still urged Tang Xuanzang to eat.
Tang Xuanzang wouldn’t eat; he just said to take it away and wouldn’t look at it a second time.
This was quite similar to the original text in the Journey to the West; when Tang Xuanzang said he wouldn’t eat, he wouldn’t even take a bite, regardless of whether it was a Spiritual Treasure or something else.
Chen Nuo sipped his tea in silence; his current status here was merely that of a guest, and a guest should do as guests ought to do.
Qingfeng and Mingyue urged for a while, but when the other party refused to eat, they stopped insisting.
In the following moments, Tang Xuanzang’s face was still ashen. He didn’t move, and his hand trembled while he drank his tea.
Master Zhenyuan had originally wanted to explain Tang Xuanzang’s identity to Chen Nuo properly, but to see a mortal witnessing such a scenario with such composure, compared to his reincarnation as Jin Chanzi, who reacted to a Ginseng Fruit as if it were something extraordinary, made Master Zhenyuan feel embarrassed to reveal Tang Xuanzang’s true identity.
He feared that revealing it would lead to disbelief; with such a lack of courage and bearing, who would believe that this was the same Jin Chanzi who used to be so glorious?
Master Zhenyuan took a sip of tea with lowered eyes, then said, "Mingyue, go and prepare two guest rooms for our guests. They have come a long way and must be tired."
Tang Xuanzang hastily expressed his thanks, but only Qingfeng and Mingyue knew that their master wasn’t really concerned about their fatigue and wanting to provide them with a place to rest; he was feeling embarrassed, didn’t want to see them, and preferred ’out of sight, out of mind.’
Having received the orders, Qingfeng and Mingyue immediately led Tang Xuanzang to the guest rooms, while the Six-Eared Macaque coveted the fruit with keen desire but didn’t get permission to eat.
Once Qingfeng and Mingyue took them to their respective rooms, the Six-Eared Macaque was still fixated on the Ginseng Fruit. Only his master feared it, but to him, it was nothing but an Aura Bundle. If he could eat such a fruit, he might not need to cultivate for ten years. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
After Six-Eared Macaque entered his room, Mingyue was about to leave when he was stopped, "Little Immortal Boy, if my master isn’t going to eat that fruit, can I eat it? I haven’t had any food; just let me have that fruit to fill my stomach a bit."
Mingyue looked him up and down and then said, "Giving you the Ginseng Fruit? You wish. Do you know what kind of fruit that is? If it weren’t for your master being the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi, with his current cultivation, he might not even be able to find our Daoist temple, let alone desire to eat the fruit. Go dream on!"
