Chapter 771: Chapter 770 Guanyin Descends

Xuanzang looked at the Six-Eared Macaque; he actually knew that a few days ago, he had forced the Six-Eared Macaque to admit his wrongs using the Tightening-Crown Spell, and for these past days, he had indeed been reciting scriptures in the room the whole time.

He had gone over the situation in his mind several times, and he could actually sense that the reaction of the Six-Eared Macaque at the time was somewhat off.

Indeed, since he had already admitted to stealing a Ginseng Fruit, whether he admitted the second one didn’t really matter anymore; but the Six-Eared Macaque just wouldn’t admit it, which might indicate that he truly hadn’t stolen the second fruit.

"Disciple, have you reflected on your mistakes?" Despite knowing that his actions had been somewhat over the top, he was, after all, the master, and he was supposed to maintain the posture of a master, so the first question Xuanzang asked was whether he had realized his error.

The Six-Eared Macaque still did not speak.

Master Zhenyuan looked at the monkey before him, feeling puzzled in his heart. "Could it be?" he thought, "Just having this monkey locked up for two days couldn’t have made him so foolish that he wouldn’t utter a single word upon release."

Seeing that the Six-Eared Macaque was silent, Xuanzang took a step forward and asked again, "Disciple, do you understand your wrongdoing?"

The Six-Eared Macaque looked at Xuanzang, suddenly his eyes reddened, and a weapon appeared in his hand in an instant, as though he was about to attack Xuanzang.

Xuanzang was startled by the Six-Eared Macaque’s demeanor and fell to the ground. What was he planning to do; could it be that he intended to kill him?

Thankfully, the Six-Eared Macaque merely glanced at Xuanzang before turning around with a knife and chopping toward Master Zhenyuan.

This sudden shift was too abrupt; anyone with slower reflexes might indeed have been attacked by the Six-Eared Macaque. Unfortunately for the macaque, who else but Master Zhenyuan, the Ancestor of Earth Immortals, was there? Fearing nothing from such a greenhorn monkey, he simply flung his Qiankun Sleeve and once again ensnared the Six-Eared Macaque.

Xuanzang was still somewhat shaken but felt too embarrassed to ask Master Zhenyuan to release his disciple again.

Though he kept silent, Xuanzang’s heart was filled with melancholy. What was going on with this disciple of his, insisting on taking this matter so seriously? Could he still accompany him on the Journey to the West for Scriptures?

If he could go, might he encounter something on the road and turn his blade on Xuanzang? But if he were not to let him join on the Journey to the West for Scriptures, the hardships of the journey aside, with so many demons around, how could he venture out on his own?

Over on Master Zhenyuan’s side, his irritation had flared up again. He squinted his eyes at Xuanzang, "Tang Sanzang, this is the fine disciple you’ve taught. I released him, and he actually tried to kill me. That’s really taking things too far, isn’t it?"

I’m very sorry, it’s all due to my lack of discipline," Xuanzang quickly apologized to Master Zhenyuan.

While Xuanzang was still apologizing to Master Zhenyuan, he suddenly felt a holy light flash, so bright that he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Narrowing his eyes, he looked in that direction and suddenly saw The Bodhisattva Guanyin, immediately kneeling down, "Greetings to The Bodhisattva Guanyin!"

Chen Nuo had calculated that Bodhisattva Guanyin should have arrived the first time the Six-Eared Macaque was imprisoned, but didn’t expect this matter to drag on for so long. He wondered what Bodhisattva Guanyin had been up to—probably observing, considering whether or not it was time to intervene.

Master Zhenyuan was slightly surprised to see Bodhisattva Guanyin’s arrival, but also felt it made sense. He was not as devout in his display as Xuanzang but merely clasped his hands towards Bodhisattva Guanyin as a greeting.

Chen Nuo thought that, as his current persona was that of a mortal, showing too much equanimity might not fit his character. However, showing some devotion would be appropriate.

Looking at Xuanzang kneeling on the ground, Chen Nuo thought, forget it, it’s possible to recover even if one’s image collapses a bit. If he had to act like Xuanzang, he would rather have his image collapse.

Thus, Chen Nuo followed Master Zhenyuan and saluted the Bodhisattva Guanyin.

The Bodhisattva Guanyin looked at this mortal with some confusion. This person was truly a mortal, from head to toe, through and through.

Master Zhenyuan, who held himself in high esteem and disdained ordinary people, why would he invite a mere mortal as a guest? Could it be that this mortal possessed some extraordinary quality?

However, the mortal was not the most important matter at hand. He still needed to address the issue of the Six-Eared Macaque. So, he said to Xuanzang, "Xuanzang, your discipleship is lax. Do you admit this?"

Xuanzang also knew that he had been lax in his discipline, and without any hesitation, he immediately admitted it.

"Disciple Xuanzang admits it is due to my lack of strictness in disciplining my disciples that one of them stole two Ginseng Fruits from this master." Xuanzang quickly admitted his wrongdoing.

"Not only is your disciplining lax, but there is another mistake you made," the Bodhisattva Guanyin said. "Your disciple indeed only ate one Ginseng Fruit."

Xuanzang looked up incredulously, and asked the Bodhisattva Guanyin, "But Bodhisattva, the two Little Immortal Boys said that there were two Ginseng Fruits missing. If my disciple did not eat them, then where did the other one go?"

The Bodhisattva Guanyin did not answer Xuanzang’s question, but instead took a willow branch from the Jade Clean Bottle, flicked it toward the Ginseng Fruit Tree, and suddenly a Ginseng Fruit emerged from the ground and grew back onto the tree.

Xuanzang was astounded, not understanding how the fruit could grow out from the ground. Although he still did not know why, he was certain of one thing, his disciple indeed had only eaten one Ginseng Fruit.

"Why has this Ginseng Fruit grown back on the tree?" Xuanzang asked.

Master Zhenyuan spoke, "This Ginseng Fruit fears the Five Elements. Presumably, your disciple knocked it off and it fell to the ground. Then the Ginseng Fruit merged with the soil and disappeared."

Xuanzang had not expected that just a Ginseng Fruit would have such considerations. This confirmed that he indeed wronged his disciple previously, and even used the Tightening-Crown Spell to force him to admit to eating two.

"Amitabha, it’s a sin," said Xuanzang. "The poor monk did not think and has become the wrongdoer in a moment of misjudgment, forcing my disciple to admit to eating two Ginseng Fruits."

All of this had already been anticipated by Buddhism. The Bodhisattva Guanyin was aware that stealing the Ginseng Fruits was indeed an act the Six-Eared Macaque could commit, yet had not expected the monkey to be so hot-tempered.

Merely for speaking a few words and wrongly accusing him, the monkey was ready to fight. How could he possibly be a match for Master Zhenyuan? In the end, he would still have to be subdued by Master Zhenyuan.

"Xuanzang, you indeed showed too little trust in your disciple," said Guanyin. "You are his mentor; if even you cannot believe in him, then who else can?"

Xuanzang felt deeply ashamed by Guanyin’s words but still couldn’t help but explain, "It’s not that I didn’t believe in him. He was indeed at fault first. Even though he only stole one Ginseng Fruit, it is still considered stealing, and he did not admit it. If it were not for this gentleman employing a strategy to expose the truth, my disciple would not have admitted it either. Therefore, after his initial lies and only then telling the truth, I really could not trust him anymore."
