Chapter 78: Chapter 78 The Young Novice Monk’s Doubt

Even facing a single Quasi-Saint Golden Spirit Mother was already a tough ordeal for them before, let alone today when it’s a Quasi-Saint plus two Daluo Golden Immortals, and the kind that are more troublesome when together!

Has Guanyin gone mad, hasn’t she had enough of being beaten up?

As they wondered, Manjushri and Samantabhadra received Guanyin’s telepathic message and immediately understood, regaining some confidence in their hearts.

Surely they could not win the fight, but holding on for a while should be easy, right?

Thinking this, the three Bodhisattvas steeled their hearts and charged in together, only to kneel down together soon after.

Upon clashing, the three Bodhisattvas realized the naivety of their thoughts, for even three against one Quasi-Saint they were outclassed, to say nothing of one-on-one now.

The highest in cultivation, Guanyin faced off against Yunxiao, while Manjushri and Samantabhadra respectively took on Qiong Xiao and Bixiao, the scene so violent it was unimaginable.

The earth-shaking noise of their magical duel alarmed all the monks of Yunshan Temple, who hurriedly ran toward the main hall. From a distance, they were stupefied.

The very Guanyin, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra that they worshipped daily had actually appeared in the flesh.

However, they were now being soundly thrashed by three women, utterly powerless to fight back, in a completely sorry state!

Had it not been for their garb matching the Buddha Statues, the monks would have had difficulty believing that these three were Bodhisattvas.

"Amitabha Buddha, such sins!" the presiding Elder Abbot trembled, his complexion ashen. Unlike the other monks who only focused on the battle between the three Bodhisattvas and the Three Xiaos, he noticed that all the Golden Body Statues inside the hall had been destroyed.

This was the wealth that Yunshan Temple had painstakingly accumulated from the faithful over hundreds of years, now gone in an instant!

Guanyin, you have led me astray!

Samantabhadra and Manjushri felt like crying; Bixiao and Qiong Xiao fought like madwomen, dealing lethal blows seemingly intent on putting them to death!

Outmatched by every attack, Manjushri and Samantabhadra had no choice but to employ Buddhism’s protective Divine Skill, the Sixteen-Foot Golden Body, hoping to hold on a little longer.

If they ended up like the unfortunate Lingji, with their souls dispatched to the Underworld to await Reincarnation, it would truly be game over; even if they reincarnated to cultivate anew, their cultivation and strength would greatly diminish!

While Manjushri and Samantabhadra quietly lamented, Guanyin, who faced Yunxiao, was also not faring well.

The gap between a peak Daluo Golden Immortal and a Quasi-Saint was more than tenfold that between a Taiyi Golden Immortal and a Daluo Golden Immortal.

Although Guanyin was only a step away from Quasi-Saint status, whether she could cross that threshold was still uncertain.

If Yunxiao’s disposition were not naturally calm, she, too, might already have followed in Lingji’s footsteps.

Finally, just as the three Bodhisattvas were about to collapse, the Buddhas of Spirit Mountain finally arrived!

Seeing the wreckage of their respective Buddha Statues atop the hall, the Buddhas became enraged!

"You are so insolent!"

"How dare you barge into the land of Buddhism!"

"You have destroyed our Golden Body Statues and still dare to act so wantonly; could it be that you do not take us into account?"

Every Buddha was rebuking the Three Xiaos for their series of offenses, portraying them as utterly unforgivable, incapable of calming their wrath without facing the cycle of Reincarnation and never achieving transcendence.

Seeing their reinforcements arrive, the three Bodhisattvas were invigorated, and using the opportunity, they promptly withdrew to stand beside the Buddhas.

"Amitabha Buddha."

The monks of the temple were shocked and trembling with excitement; today, they had actually seen the true Buddhas, and so many of them!

Clothed in the radiant aura of Buddha’s light, even a distant glance would make one feel content and at peace.

The monks stared intently, wondering if they were witnessing the Buddhas vanquishing demons in realtime.

Surely the three breathtakingly beautiful women must be illusions cast by demons.

"Even the three great Bodhisattvas are no match, which shows that it is an extremely powerful demon; no wonder it alarmed so many Buddhas all at once."

Only the Elder Abbot remained silent. As the abbot of Yunshan Temple, he naturally knew some of the secrets and the importance of the Golden Body Statue, which was why they spent a large sum of money to repair the Golden Body Statue every year at the temple.

Qiong Xiao snorted coldly and said coolly, "What do you have that is worthy of our attention, your cultivation or your actions?"

"You enjoy offerings in your grand temples, but when the faithful need you, are you ever there? Today, just because your Golden Body Statues were damaged, you all rushed here in a panic. Do you deserve it?"

This statement enraged all the Buddhas present.

"You, stop your wild talk!"

"How we Buddhas act is not something you can presume to fathom!"

For a moment, the assembly of Buddhas was inflamed with passion, but a listener with a heart, oh!

"Elder Abbot, didn’t you say that Buddha is compassionate? Then why is this happening?" A young novice monk tugged at the Elder Abbot’s sleeve and asked in confusion.

He was an orphan picked up by the Elder Abbot, living in the temple since he was young, spending his days with ancient Buddhist statues for company, filled with curiosity about Buddhism.

However, children are playful by nature, and he once stealthily left the temple, wishing to frolic in the forest.

Unexpectedly, he encountered a demon, who captured him and intended to devour him. As he cried and screamed, his mind was filled with thoughts of Buddha and the Bodhisattvas, hoping they would appear and save his life.

Just in the nick of time, the demon died, and he was saved, but not by the Buddhas in his heart; it was a Taoist who just happened to be passing by.

Since then, he has harbored this doubt in his heart.

He had thought that Buddha was simply too busy to attend to the prayers of all beings in the Three Realms.

But today, just like the sister in green who was exceedingly beautiful said, as soon as their own Golden Body Statues were destroyed, they all showed themselves.

The compassion spoken of time and again, but where is this compassion truly?

Upon hearing these words, the Elder Abbot’s face changed dramatically, and he quickly covered the young novice monk’s mouth, scolding in a stern voice, "Wusheng, hold your tongue. After you go back, recite the Diamond Sutra ten more times."

Turning his head, the Elder Abbot then firmly ordered the monks, "Everyone, descend the mountain immediately, do not linger!"

If a fight really broke out, they would be the first to die!

Hearing the Abbot’s words, the monks also came to their senses and hurried down the mountain.

Yet, there was still a portion of extremely fanatic devotees who, no matter what, would not leave.

"Ah, may you all take care of yourselves." Seeing he could not persuade them, the Elder Abbot sighed and left with the other monks.

Qiong Xiao leapt up and watched the departing monks with indifference. She despised being looked down upon, especially by these nauseating shaven-headed fools!

"How can it be you?!"

As the standoff continued, suddenly a piercing scream of surprise came from the sky.

The Three Xiaos turned their heads to look, and killing intent instantly surged.

The Delighted Buddha of Fixed Light!

Seeing the reactions of the Three Xiaos, the Delighted Buddha of Fixed Light shrank back immediately, wanting to leave.

This was the reason why he dared not show himself in the Three Realms anymore; every Immortal on the Jie School’s list wanted him dead over anyone else!

But seeing the group of Buddhas below, the Delighted Buddha of Fixed Light gained confidence again, swaggered down from the clouds, and hid behind the assembly of Buddhas.

"Long-Ear Dingguang Immortal, you betrayed the Jie School and harmed many of our disciples. You deserve death!" Even the usually gentle Yun Xiao could not swallow this grievance and, with a beautiful face marked by anger, she questioned.

Because of Long Ear’s betrayal at the crucial moment, it was as if the Jie School had lost completely, leaving no chance for a turnaround!
