Chapter 1514: Parting Shot

[Godoku Cannon: Double Shot!] Zhen Liu declared as he fired off the [Godoku Gourd].

At the same time, the gourd itself declared that the attacks being fired were the [Ragnarock Shot] and the [Mysticlassic Cannon].

As soon as the [Godoku Gourd] had finished blending the power of the various kaijin together, Zhen Liu fired off two almost simultaneous shots towards Alain and Smoking Mirror. The attacks hadn’t blown away the smoke, but they were still violent enough to make a noticeable booming sound.

"Holy shit..." Lythero trailed off as he stared at the streaks of vicious energy ripping through the sky towards their intended targets.

"Bahaha! Okay, that was totally worth the future fainting spell!" Zhen Liu laughed after he had fired off the attack.

"Wait, what?"

Zhen Liu had briefed Lythero about the power of the [Godoku Gourd] before, and he had seen it used once or twice before. However, those prior times made use of one Kaijin to three Kaijin at most.

Three Kaijin was even pushing the limit of what Zhen Liu normally did and usually came with a bout of paralysis and energy drain that knocked him off of his feet.

Now, he had just fired a double shot of what could only be described as concentrated apocalyptic power at a knock-off angel and a fuckboy god fragment.

In other words, Zhen Liu had gone way past pushing the envelope to shoving the envelope into a furnace at full blast.

To give Zhen Liu credit, though, he made sure to stay on his feet long enough to see that not only had his attacks hit, but that they had sent the targeted bastards flying.

"Oh shit... I didn’t know those attacks had tracking capabilities. Cool."

...POV switch, the targetted ain’t having a good time...

"Shit, shit, shit!"

"Are you fucking kidding me?!"

Alain and Smoking Mirror weren’t stupid enough to think that they could tank these powerful blasts made of concentrated [Chaos], especially when it was enhanced and mixed up in such a weird way. As such, they both attempted to outmaneuver the attack.

In the process of flying away from the attack, moving side-to-side in a bid to have the attack go over their heads, they found, to their chagrin, that these attacks were the type to seek out their opponents. Regardless on how fast or how tricky they tried to fly, the attacks that Zhen Liu had fired off seemed to have minds of their own.

If they moved left, the beams moved left.

If they moved right, the attacks moved right.

It was as if the attack, these ominous beams carrying the weight of an apocalypse or the ominous power of the occult, was begging for them to stop moving and actually do something about it.

"Fine, fuck it!"

"I’ve survived four apocalypses already; what’s another going to do to me?!"

Understanding that it was basically do-or-die time, both Smoking Mirror and Alain concluded that they had to block and overpower this incoming attack.

Independently of one another.

[Lightwing Shield!]

[Shadow Law: Endless Void!]

Before the [Mysticlassic Cannon] impacted him, Alain channeled the power of [Chaos] into his wings and created a multilayered shield that shone like a rainbow. At the same time, Smoking Mirror summoned a mirror made of obsidian that was actually composed mostly of aether with a thin layer of [Law] around it.

Smoking Mirror may have had [Law] on his side, but it wasn’t truly enough to mount a full-blown defense. As such, he was the first amongst the duo to be pushed back.

As for Alain, his lightwings were able to push back against the [Mysticlassic Cannon] to an extent, but it wasn’t enough.

’This attack...it’s a combination of multiple attributes?!’ Alain realized.

His innate light attribute managed to mitigate the part of the attack that seemed to be focused on [Death], but there were still three different attributes slamming against him.

He could feel the power of the [Stars], of [Illusions], and...something else.

Alain couldn’t determine what it was, but he could sense it was just...[Mysterious].

Regardless, the force behind these attacks was strong enough to force Smoking Mirror and Alain to focus entirely defense and neglect the fact that their original opponents had gotten the fuck out of dodge.

Not only that, but the guy who blasted them out of the sky had also escaped!

...Wait, isn’t he unconscious at best right now?...

"Okay...cool."

Sound of a man collapsing like a sack of potatoes.

"Whoa!"

After he had confirmed that Smoking Mirror and Alain were sent packing, Zhen Liu had fallen to the ground for the second or third time today.

Instead of needing to lie about being drunk this time around, though, he got caught by Lythero before hitting the ground.

As for the kaijin who were used as ammunition for the [Godoku Gourd], they were just straight up unconscious. Thankfully, they reverted to accessory mode when they passed out and not into a pile of sleeping monsters, which would’ve been a pain in the ass to move.

Supporting his friend the best he could, Lythero gave Zhen Liu a look that was somewhere between worry and disbelief.

"Can’t believe you just did that to yourself, man. We could’ve just left without you doing any of that," Lythero pointed as he began to escort Zhen Liu back into the workshop and through the magic door to the [Library of Nowhere].

"True," Zhen Liu admitted through tired, slightly slurred speech. "But then this city would’ve suffered more than necessary."

"Beg your pardon?"

Zhen Liu was still somewhat fucked in the brain, but he was still conscious enough to explain himself.

"Okay...so...it’s kind of obvious that Smoking Mirror was probably going to use this place as a base of power, right? And part of that involves either making nice with the local authorities or usurping them, right?"

"Yeah..." Lythero nodded, but only partially understanding Zhen Liu’s words.

"He can’t do that now because Alice and the others just blew the fuck out of his base, took out one of his dudes, and basically forced him to prematurely confront the city lord before he was ready to do so," Zhen Liu elaborated. "And before Smoking Mirror can salvage the situation in the slightest, I just appeared out of nowhere and..."

"Gave the City Lord a chance to retreat, acquire assistance from people who would definitely be interested in a rogue [Law] wielder, and put a wrench in his plans long enough for you to prepare more concrete countermeasures," Lythero finished once he understood.

"Exactly."

"Huh...wait, then why did you fire a shot at that Alain guy too? Sounds like he wasn’t even part of your original intent," Lythero pointed out.

"Honestly? Because fuck that guy."

"I...fair enough."

By the time Zhen Liu finished explaining everything, the two of them were now at the threshold to the [Door to Everywhere] and were ready to cross it back to the [Library of Nowhere].

"Wait...I still need to drop something off before we go..." Zhen Liu muttered as he threw out a handful of marbles to the side. "Alright, now let’s go home."

Once they had crossed, the door promptly shut behind them.

And now, for all intents and purposes, Axer’s workshop was now completely empty.

...Wait, what about the ditched motherfuckers?...

"You...won’t...break...me!"

"STUPID BASTARD, DON’T FUCK WITH ME!"

Alain and Smoking Mirror both eventually managed to deal with the attacks that were sent their way, but it had come at a cost.

Smoking Mirror had expended a substantial amount of [Law] that would take weeks to months to recover due to his diminished status, while Alain had one of his wings thoroughly eroded due to his unfamiliarity with the type of [Chaos] thrown in his direction.

And that was just on a physical level. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

In terms of emotional and opportunity cost, the price was much steeper.

Zhen Liu’s attacks had sent the two flying just far enough from Rainbowden’s airspace that it gave the City Lord and his allies ample time to retreat. By the time they got back, the battle had already ended due to their original targets having bailed.

To say Smoking Mirror and Alain were pissed would be the understatement of the century.

"Are you fucking kidding me?!"

"When I find that bastard, I’m going to rip his head off!"

One moment, they were getting ready to unleash their biggest attacks on one another; the next, they were forced to defend themselves as a certain interloper showed up and blasted them out of the sky with a cheap shot.

Zhen Liu’s presence, the Kaijin Lord’s presence, was anticipated, but Alain and Smoking Mirror figured they would have time to resolve their grievances with the man after they had respectfully finished whatever business they needed to have resolved while in Rainbowden.

And now, they didn’t even have the luxury of being able to launch a revenge assault on the guy who fucked with their business.

Once they had returned to Rainbowden, both Alain and Smoking Mirror extended their senses towards the direction of where that weird rainbow smoke cloud had originated from and realized that there was no one of interest in that general direction.

All they could sense was a trio of unfamiliar, unconscious prisoners of war.

"Stupid...cowardly...GYAAAAH!"

With no other choice, both Smoking Mirror and Alain released screams of pointless rage.
