Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse-Chapter 222: The General’s Death
Kylo and the others looked at Khalifa with expressions filled with worry. Like Khalifa, they had all been spent in the battle with what was the largest mob humanity encountered so far.
They.. simply weren’t confident they could deal with the general before he could do any damage at this time. They also knew Khalifa was incredibly tired already as well, and there was a chance she might not be unhurt after this.
It didn’t matter that Khalifa could survive several deep shrapnels on her body from the explosion back then. They just didn’t want her bleeding at all!
They dared not underestimate the general, especially when he was so desperate.
Instead of considering, however, the General only laughed at them.
"You think I’m an idiot?!" The general said, looking Kylo straight in the eyes. "Do you think I’m blind about your strengths?"
Kylo used to look at him with respect. Now there was only indifference, and the General knew he had found out what he had done!
Kylo looked at the senile old man with a complicated expression.
The general… had been one of his inspirations getting into the military. He grew up hearing of his many stories from the academy, and at some point he had aimed to be just like him.
Although nothing showed on his face, it pained Kylo to see him like this. He wanted to know more about his motivations.
However, Kylo knew not to expect anything logical anymore. Obviously, the old man’s brain had something wrong, especially in his old age.
So he focused on how to get Claire out of there without risking her and her baby’s lives.
"Send the girl back," Kylo said, "While we are still being civil."
This made the man pause, looking badly at him. "You dare talk to me like that, major?!"
"You tried to kill me," Kylo asked, his tone was so stoic that to the general, he was looking down on him.. "We were set to rescue the scientist to fix the virus. Why do you compromise the safety of the human race?"
The general looked at him. "Why would I want to fix the virus?"
This made everyone freeze a little, looking at him with confused expressions on their faces.
"With this disaster, I am suddenly the General again!"

"You youngins didn’t know much about war at this time of peace, but it was all I knew!"
His eyes turned red in anger, his annoyance overflowing as he looked at Kylo.
"It’s young bastards like you who forced me—a hero who saved their homes—to retire! Like a senile old man!"
He laughed creepily, as if laughing at the world for its stupidity.
"A mere major wants to step over a hero’s head? I saved the country many times!"
"How much have I sacrificed for this country?! My family left me because all I did was serve! You people dare to abandon ME?! How dare you!!"
Kylo saw that in his soliloquy, his blade on Claire had loosened a little.
"No," Kylo whispered, looking at the man. He thought of what he had seen so far and what he had heard about this man’s private life.
"Your family left you because all you did was chase glory."
Kylo immediately raised his gun so fast only people staring at him could’ve captured a hint of movement.
BANG!
The General’s eyes were red as he drowned bitterly in his memories, unaware that his death had arrived!
The next thing he knew he was already pushed back by a strong force, looking at the sky, with his vision slowly turning dark.
The people around looked at the corpse with a complicated expression. To think all his actions could be summed with mental illness.
And so, such was the uneventful end of a hero’s life.
.
.
.
BANG!
The moment of silence for the lost General didn’t last as a loud banging sound resounded, followed by the sound of crumbling rocks which took their attention away.
They turned to see a figure thrown nearby. It was Jacob who was thrown with such force that his figure made a small dent on the wall he landed in.
He was fighting a new super strength zombie that appeared at some point. Their fight opened up a part of the interior wall, allowing a couple more of the remaining zombies in.
Hugo and the others immediately ran to assist, but they ignored the zombies that went inside. It so happened the helicopter was in the nearest area and the weakened soldiers became the first meat they hunted for.
The remaining soldiers were still weak now, especially with one less companion, and they were helpless against this new mob. Chris immediately ran to Claire to take her to him.
"Chris!" She yelled, sobbing, and burying her face on his chest.
"Claire!" He sobbed back, using his wind to push back a zombie from her—throwing it to Hilten’s direction.
"Damn!" The man yelled, though sadly he only had a cold weapon now and without an elemental ability, and he could only wave around his weapon to defend himself.
Only Kylo and Khalifa were in the area now, with the men assisting Jacob, and the other civilians either running away from the mob, or looking for a good place to position while they killed them.
At least half of the civilians had ’fight’ as their first response now, Khalifa mused, nodding in acknowledgement before she turned back to the chaos the new mob was causing.
Her eyes met with one of the soldiers—the man who had heartlessly shot his companion just a minute prior.
The man was looking around as he tried to defend himself, even subtly trying to hide behind his companions, who also fell one by one. His eyes met hers, his orbs filled with pleas.
"HELP US! PLEASE!"
Khalifa, naturally, did not move.
"AHHH! HELP ME!!" He screamed, feeling the zombie’s teeth bury on his skin. His eyes turned red, glaring at the silver-headed woman, whose expression remained unchanged.
"A lot of the citizens died because of your selfishness. Let them try taking their revenge on you," Khalifa said, watching as he was taken by a zombie dressed in poor clothes. "You have killed innocents. You do not deserve to live."
Ironically, this zombie was indeed one of the people this soldier shot.
Karma, indeed.
