People gasped, and Khalifa and the rest frowned. There were whispers around, some cynical, while some a little believing—after all, why else would there be many people who had awakened, but no one got the same ’power’ as he did?

"A lot of you had seen, right? How he just goes around amongst the zombie mob? It’s not a power! I guarantee no one else would get it, why? BECAUSE IT’S NOT A POWER!"

All that time she had lived, even in her ’past life’ dreams, there was no one who got this monster’s abilities!

She was certain of it! Such a power should’ve been well known if it existed!

She also knew that even supernaturals weren’t immune to the virus, especially to the virus of similarly-leveled zombies. This guy was bitten by a superspeed zombie! He should’ve turned ages ago!

Looking at the crowd’s apprehensive looks, she went to throw in some more theories. If she was going down, she would take Khalifa with her!

"Maybe, the upgraded zombies got in because of him!"

People gasped at her words, and they looked at each other, unsure what to believe.

The words effectively doused a bit of doubt over the former enthusiasm. Some even looked at the party guardedly.

Khalifa frowned.

Humans.

The men immediately went on the defensive. Hugo looked at Kylo, "So these are the people you dragged us to save?"

At his words, the people looked down in shame.

Kaize sneered, "At least some of them know shame," he then looked at Mira, "Unlike useless people who latch on to others and cause them trouble."

Mira flushed, looking at him. "I’m not wrong though!"

"You should have seen him walking around undetected! How come no one else had such ability? I’ve seen him get bitten by a superspeed zombie! How is he alive?"

There were a few whispers around and, surprisingly, a certain silver headed man stepped forward.

"My name is Sigmund Zed, leading virus expert," he said. "I’ve studied the virus for a long time, he…" he looked at Jacob with that unchanging face of his. "Isn’t one."

This made Khalifa and the others look at him with raised eyebrows.

Mira saw the public opinion shifting back, even becoming brighter because they had the scientist on their side!

They had heard of this person—he was the one who was most likely to discover the cure!

However, Mira was on the edge of insanity from the pain, itch, and humiliation.

"Then prove it! Who can say he’s really a scientist! Do you expect us to believe the few of you went in the middle of the capital, which has millions of zombies, to rescue him?"

Khalifa sighed, "We have no obligation to prove anything." She looked at the crowd, "Do you agree?"

If they agreed, then this was the last time they’d ever come to their rescue. If Kylo asked for help, they’d help only him.

The faces of the crowd varied, some of guilt, some of apprehension.

Either way, she couldn’t leave so easily now because Kylo’s reputation was being tainted by being associated with them. It’d be troublesome for him to make some people follow, since the seeds of doubt had been planted.

If anything similar happened again to this place, some people might pin it on him.

Khalifa’s eyes met Mira’s, who had been watching all of her reactions.

Mira smirked in response, and those scars on her face looked particularly unsightly as she did so.

It was like she was telling her, ’this is because you refused to heal me’.

However, Khalifa was not fazed and simply looked at Jacob, who was frowning. His jaw was clenched and his hands forming a fist.

Her heart broke for him. Obviously, he fought harder than everyone else, but he was being questioned like this.

"Does this look like a zombie to you?" She asked, pulling Jacob over to give him a wet kiss. It startled everyone at first, but Jacob let go and passionately reciprocated.

It was quite intimate, with Jacob pulling her flush against him, his tongue entering her mouth, plundering.

While embarrassed, this wiped the people’s doubts. After all, zombie fluids were poisonous. As a few minutes passed by and nothing happened, all doubts were cast aside.

But Mira was desperate, she was already suffering so much so ugly and her eyes felt like burning when she saw Khalifa so happy!

"She’s a healer! Maybe she could heal herself! She did this to me!!" She yelled—no, screeched—as she pointed at herself.

She regretted it though because she could see the disgust in people’s faces and the shame was more painful than her wounds.

"She refused to heal me because I know these things!"

Khalifa gave her a blank look. The nerve of this woman.

"If she stopped holding back, maybe a lot of people wouldn’t have died, including Sid!"

The mention of Sid made her eyes a little red.

"Ah, now that you remind me,"

Mira’s eyes brightened as she looked at her. Did she finally change her mind?

"Your disease… could indeed get worse."

Mira’s eyes widened, and it took a second for her to understand what Khalifa meant.

"What—KYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" Her feet gave way as she screamed at the top of her lungs.

"WHAT—KHALIFAAA!!!" She yelled as she felt like she was burning from the inside. She felt the ugly scars deepen as if it was eating itself and the pain couldn’t be described at all.

Saying her skin burned like acid was an understatement.

She screamed and screamed, wide eyes staring at Khalifa who was watching her coldly melt into a puddle.

There was silence around except for Mira’s screeches, and everyone watched in fear as Mira screamed and rolled on the ground, leaving a bit of her flesh in her every movement.

This went on for several minutes that felt like forever, and everyone felt like they had stopped breathing until there were only bones, hair and nails left.

People couldn’t move or speak for a while after that, and they could only take a look at the perpetrator after they gathered their wits.

At this time, she was looking coldly at the melted corpse in front of her. "Try to kill me, and expect to survive?"

Sid’s death had, admittedly, made her mood a bit sadistic, and it was obvious with the bloodlust she emitted.

And it was a sight that was embedded into everyone’s minds.
