Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 521: It Must Be the Spy Trying to Harm Them
However, they soon realized something was off.
The group of people, who usually liked to make a scene wherever they went, now looked like wilted eggplants, following a man and woman with their heads down. Though their eyes still weren’t exactly friendly, they seemed to be holding something back and didn’t truly lose their tempers. This made the people around them start to speculate more about Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun’s identities.
"Hello, comrades from the police," Su Xiaoxiao said, as soon as she saw someone approach, not even waiting for them to ask before speaking up first. "We would like to report an incident."
The leading police officer was especially cautious as he asked, "What happened? Can you tell us?"
Su Xiaoxiao immediately began recounting everything in detail, almost like spilling beans from a bamboo tube, leaving the officers scratching their heads.
They were used to dealing with all kinds of people in all kinds of situations in the streets and alleys, so after hearing Su Xiaoxiao, they more or less understood. It was clear that the group with the armbands had gotten themselves tangled up in something they couldn’t handle.
However, they couldn’t do much about it now. They were up against a tough opponent, and it seemed like they were being buried under one high hat after another, with no way to get out.
"Alright, let’s head to the scene for an investigation," one of the police officers said, maintaining a very official demeanor.
His gaze, however, subtly lingered on Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun, hoping they would take the hint and back off. If it turned out they were the ones setting up the disciplinary office people, there was no way they’d get away without facing consequences.
But the two of them, seemingly unaware of the unspoken suggestion, turned around and walked ahead, leading the way.
The police officers had no choice but to follow obediently, bringing their equipment with them.
Upon arriving at the guesthouse, they first asked the service staff if anyone suspicious had entered the premises. After confirming that no such people had come in, they checked the locks on the doors and found no signs of tampering.
With no other option, they conducted a thorough search of the room. In the end, they found a partial footprint on the window ledge.
"This footprint is fairly large, it looks like it belongs to an adult male, someone with agile movements. Not necessarily muscular, but definitely not a heavyset person either," the police officer quickly began collecting evidence and summarized his findings.
Su Xiaoxiao glanced at the group of people with armbands and saw that they had all visibly relaxed.
"So, the person who reported me is the one who stole from me?" Su Xiaoxiao asked with feigned curiosity.
The people with armbands immediately denied it. "No!"
"I suspect this could be the work of a group," Su Xiaoxiao said, immediately adopting a stern look.
However, the group with the armbands frowned and impatiently responded, "You two regular citizens, what kind of people would target you like this? It’s just a simple theft. Leave it to the police comrades to handle."
They were adamant that they would not disclose the identity of the person who made the report unless absolutely necessary. They had already offered a private solution, but it was clear Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun were unwilling to let it go, bringing the matter to the police, which had now turned into a big embarrassment for them.
"This matter should be taken back to the police station. Let me make a call, then we can talk," Su Xiaoxiao said seriously, her face hardening.
The people with armbands looked even more frustrated, and just as one of them was about to speak, he was silenced by a sharp gaze.
The words they were about to speak stuck in their throats, and then they heard the man who had been quiet up until now—Jiang Yexun—speak with a cool tone: "This matter likely involves a spy."
The single sentence immediately shut everyone up as if a hand had been wrapped around their necks.
After a long pause, the people with armbands, looking like cats that had their tails stepped on, snapped, "What nonsense are you talking? You two regular citizens, why would a spy bother with you? The person who reported you has absolutely no connection to any spies."
"You think the person who reported us must be someone with a high position, someone who couldn’t possibly spread rumors, so they boldly brought people here to the guesthouse. But have you considered that the ones who are bought off are often those in higher positions? And they can remain undercover for years or even decades. You must have encountered such things before in Beijing. If you still think this is something rare, then I’d have to suspect you are in on it," Su Xiaoxiao said, her arms crossed, her icy gaze sweeping over the group with armbands, her words laced with an unspoken threat.
The group was left feeling frustrated and powerless, unable to refute her statement.
Meanwhile, the police officers, their eyes wide with excitement, immediately changed their attitude. "Comrades, since this involves a spy, this is not a small matter. Since you two are aware of the situation, why don’t we return to the police station first, and you can make your call while we discuss it further?"
"Alright, then. Thank you for your help," Su Xiaoxiao said, her cold demeanor melting into a polite tone.
The police officers immediately straightened up, "This is for the people’s service," they said, though it was clear they were also eager to get credit for it.
After all, China had a deep-seated hatred for spies. If it turned out this case was indeed linked to a spy, then whoever had made the report would certainly not get away with it. And if the person was of a high status, the police officers would be receiving a great deal of recognition for uncovering this.
With that in mind, the officers were practically bursting with excitement as they hurried back to the police station, eager to make the most of the situation.
It took only about ten minutes to arrive.
Su Xiaoxiao had already called her brother and the former leader who had visited their home last time. After receiving confirmation that the situation was being taken seriously, she sat down contentedly in the interrogation room.
The people from the Disciplinary Office, watching Su Xiaoxiao calmly, were growing increasingly nervous. They had unknowingly run into a brick wall, and now they could only hope this didn’t have anything to do with spies. Otherwise, their years of dominance in Beijing could come to an end.
As they glared at Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun, their eyes became sharp, as though trying to pierce holes in them. They couldn’t understand how two ordinary people, one seemingly without any background and the other just a somewhat troublesome man with a cotton-soft woman by his side, could be more difficult to handle than hedgehogs.
Just as they were deep in thought, a commotion suddenly erupted at the police station entrance.
The doors were pushed open, and a man who looked to be nearly fifty years old walked in without even glancing at the Disciplinary Office personnel. He walked directly to Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun, his face filled with apologies.
"Comrades Su and Jiang, I sincerely apologize. The situation you mentioned has already been reported to higher-ups. We haven’t yet determined which force is behind this, but we will investigate it thoroughly. In the meantime, we will deploy personnel to protect you. Our units will also send comrades to take over soon, so your safety is guaranteed."
"Thank you. We appreciate it, Leader," Su Xiaoxiao said seriously.
The Disciplinary Office personnel, upon hearing this, immediately felt their legs go weak. They helped each other steady themselves, and a few of the more timid ones even collapsed to the floor.
