Chapter 607: Labor

Despite all the shouting and threats, no one paid him any attention.

After filling out the application, the police quickly took Aunt Guo to the marriage registration office to get their divorce certificate. Looking at the divorce certificate, Aunt Guo was almost moved to tears from joy.

Both Jiang Yexun and Su Xiaoxiao knew she had been holding this in for many years, so they didn’t try to persuade her. They just hugged her and let her cry.

It took a while before her emotions calmed down. After all the formalities were completed, the three of them went straight to the scrapyard to find Jiang Xinyue.

Jiang Xinyue still had more than a week before her due date, so she should have been resting properly. But afraid of not being noticed if she went into labor at home alone, she spent every day sitting on the rocking chair by the roadside, basking in the sun. The street was busy, and any situation could be spotted easily. The people selling goods nearby were kind enough to not let her do any work. As long as her merchandise was neatly arranged in its place, they would pay her and leave.

When they suddenly appeared, Jiang Xinyue was momentarily stunned, but then she smiled and greeted them. "Mom, why are you here?"

"It’s nothing, we just came to see you," Aunt Guo replied cheerfully.

Walking over, she gently patted her daughter’s belly and asked with concern, "How have you been feeling lately?"

"I’m good, just the baby moves more frequently now. Shoucheng and I were planning to ask you to watch over the scrapyard for us tomorrow, so we can take a break from the busy farming season. I’m going to the hospital the day after tomorrow; I’ll be staying there four days before my due date, and the hospital agreed to it," Jiang Xinyue said, her face filled with excitement.

"Alright, alright, then I won’t go back today," Aunt Guo said, not expecting things to work out this way.

Before she could say anything more, Jiang Xinyue’s expression suddenly changed.

She looked down, and Su Xiaoxiao followed her gaze. They both saw water running down her legs and onto the ground.

"Her water broke! Sister’s going into labor!" Su Xiaoxiao exclaimed anxiously.

Jiang Yexun and Aunt Guo’s expressions changed at the same time, but Jiang Xinyue remained calm. "I don’t feel much yet, don’t worry. There’s a cart cleaned by Shoucheng at the scrapyard, and there are blankets in the room. I’ve already prepared everything I need for the birth, and it’s all on the table. Just help me onto the cart and take me to the hospital."

Aunt Guo immediately went to prepare the cart, while Jiang Yexun gently lifted Jiang Xinyue and placed her on it.

"I’ll take her to the hospital first. You and Xiaoxiao, don’t rush. Just come along slowly," Jiang Yexun said with concern.

Aunt Guo nodded, "Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Xiaoxiao. We won’t be in a hurry."

She then turned to Jiang Xinyue, perhaps worried her daughter might misunderstand, and said, "Xinyue, it’s not that Xiaoxiao doesn’t worry about you, nor that I’m favoring her. It’s just that Xiaoxiao is also over a month pregnant, and her body is still unstable."

Jiang Xinyue’s eyes widened, and she immediately smiled in joy. "Xiaoxiao is pregnant? This is great news! Don’t worry, I’ve just started, and the doctor said it will take some time until the baby arrives. We’ll take it slow and steady."

With that, Jiang Yexun hurriedly pushed her toward the hospital, while Aunt Guo and Su Xiaoxiao followed at a slower pace.

The hospital wasn’t far; it only took them about ten minutes to get there.

Aunt Guo and Su Xiaoxiao waited outside the delivery room, while Jiang Yexun went to the factory to fetch Hua Shoucheng.

After nearly three hours of excruciating labor, Jiang Xinyue finally gave birth to a six-pound baby girl.

Hua Shoucheng’s face broke into a grin as he stood by the bed, holding his daughter and repeatedly thanking Jiang Xinyue.

Jiang Yexun, on the other hand, was gripping his wife’s hand tightly, his eyes filled with intense fear.

How could childbirth be so painful? He could barely imagine what his little wife would go through in a few months.

"Don’t worry too much. Giving birth is something every woman has to experience. If my mother hadn’t gone through two painful births, we wouldn’t have you and your sister," Su Xiaoxiao comforted him, holding his trembling hand and wiping the sweat from his palm.

"I’ll be good to you! I’ll spend my whole life making it up to you!" Jiang Yexun swore, his eyes red.

Other men’s promises might not be trustworthy, but Su Xiaoxiao had no doubt about his.

After the chaos settled, Jiang Yexun took a week off from work and returned to the city to care for Jiang Xinyue. They planned to stay in the city for a week before heading back to wrap up their final tasks.

Thankfully, Jiang Xinyue gave birth to a very well-behaved baby who hardly cried. Even when she was hungry or needed a diaper change, she did so quietly and predictably.

The baby was very calm and didn’t cry unless absolutely necessary, and she would even nap without fussing.

As a result, Jiang Xinyue recovered very quickly.

Seeing her daughter’s good recovery, Aunt Guo couldn’t help but mention her divorce from Jiang Guoli.

"Really? You got divorced so easily?" Jiang Xinyue asked, her face filled with surprise and joy.

Aunt Guo smiled and nodded. "Yes, it’s done. And because your brother acted bravely in Shanghai, we don’t need to worry about the family background issue anymore."

"That’s great! That’s great!" Jiang Xinyue nodded enthusiastically, feeling like her life was only getting better.

As for her father, she simply regarded him as dead and had no intention of even looking at him.

However, Hua Shoucheng looked concerned and asked, "So, you’re not planning to stay in the village? Are you going to Shanghai? Mom, are you going too? If so, Xinyue won’t be able to see you often."

Jiang Xinyue’s smile faltered at the thought. Aunt Guo’s face also showed a hint of difficulty.

She didn’t want to leave her son and daughter-in-law behind, but she also couldn’t bear to leave her daughter to manage everything alone—working and taking care of the baby.

No matter who she stayed with, it felt like she was abandoning the other.

Seeing that no one was speaking and no one seemed willing to compromise, Su Xiaoxiao spoke up. "Actually, we all trust each other, and none of us will hold any grudges about sacrifices made. So I have a suggestion, but don’t be upset when I say it."

Having experienced a second life, Su Xiaoxiao knew exactly how things would unfold, so she couldn’t stay silent about the future of their family.

"Go ahead, Xiaoxiao. Tell us your idea!" Aunt Guo quickly nodded, eager to hear what Su Xiaoxiao had in mind.

Jiang Xinyue and Jiang Yexun both looked at Su Xiaoxiao with agreement in their eyes.
