Chapter 111: Ch111:

The woman walked toward the lighter end of the pier where the sun hit the water hard.

She had on a captain’s hat, broad brim shading her face, and the rest of her outfit screamed pirate—dark coat, striped shirt tucked into trousers, boots scuffed from years at sea.

Right next to her was her assistant, a wiry woman named Mara who never seemed to blink.

Mara stopped, squinting toward the far side of the dock.

"He took care of Pietro alone...."

Nona nodded once.

"It seems so. From what I heard he came here with a group of nine. Probably hunting for a ship."

Mara turned to look at her captain.

"You think we should take him?"

Nona gave a small smile.

"I don’t see why not. But let’s not jump. First we ask where he wants to go."

Ragnar—still wearing the same clothes from the fight, dust on his shoulders—was heading back toward the line of inns. His walk was calm but you could tell he was tired.

A hand tapped his shoulder.

He turned.

There stood Nona and Mara.

He tilted his head a little.

"What do you need?"

Nona stepped up, smile friendly but direct.

"Name’s Nona. Captain of the Black Pearl. This is Mara, my assistant and first mate." She nodded sideways at the other woman. "We heard what you did with Pietro. Took him down by yourself. Saved a lot of people today."

Mara folded her arms.

"The captain wants to say thanks properly."

Nona nodded.

"So here’s the deal—one free trip. Anywhere you pick. No fare, no strings."

Ragnar smiled, small and real.

"That’s wonderful. I was actually looking for passage. Me and my group just need to reach a nearby place."

Nona’s smile got bigger.

"Should be simple. Where exactly?"

"The Dark Continent."

Nona’s face dropped. Her hands started shaking before she shoved them behind her back.

"Can you... change your idea?" Her voice came out quieter than before.

He shook his head.

"We need to get there. Urgent matters."

She made a face like she’d bitten something sour, eyes flicking away for a second. Then she let out a sharp breath.

"All right. But I won’t dock. I’ll take you close—drop you in a longboat so you can row the rest. That’s my limit."

He nodded.

"Understood. Thank you."

He turned.

"Follow me. I’ll take you to meet the girls."

Nona glanced at Mara. Mara shrugged. They followed.

The walk was short—past fish stalls, past sailors arguing over rope, up the steps of the Seafoam Inn.

He knocked twice on the door, then pushed it open.

"Girls—someone wants to meet you."

Seven heads turned.

Nona froze in the doorway.

Her eyes locked on the tall woman by the window.

Sophia stared back.

"Nona?"

Nona blinked fast.

"Soph?"

Sophia crossed the room in three steps and pulled her into a hug that nearly lifted Nona off her feet.

"You’ve got to be kidding," Sophia said, stepping back but keeping her hands on Nona’s arms.

Nona laughed once, short.

"Still tall as ever."

Sophia grinned.

"When did you get a ship?"

"Few years after you left. Long story." Nona looked around at the other women. "You running a whole squad now?"

Sophia shrugged.

"Something like that."

Mara cleared her throat from behind Nona.

"Captain. Maybe tell them why we’re here before they think we’re trying to poach them."

Nona waved a hand.

"Right." She looked at Ragnar. "I offered him free passage. Anywhere. He said the Dark Continent."

The room went still.

A short woman with sharp eyes spoke first.

"You’re still willing to sail that route?"

Nona shrugged, but it was tight.

"Only to the drop point. Longboat from there. No anchoring."

Sophia folded her arms.

"You sure? Last time the Dark Continent came up you looked like you were going to be sick."

Nona met her eyes straight.

"I know what I’m signing up for."

Ragnar spoke, voice even.

"We wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important."

Nona studied him for a long second.

"I believe you."

She turned back to Sophia.

"So. Childhood friend shows up with a suicide run and a pack of women who look like they eat nails for breakfast. Feels familiar."

Sophia snorted.

"You haven’t changed a bit."

"Neither have you." Nona paused. "Still giving orders?"

"Only when people need them."

Mara stepped forward.

"Timeline. We sail tomorrow at dawn if the wind cooperates. Three days hard running, then we put you in the boat. After that, good luck."

A woman with red hair and a quiet voice asked,

"How close can you actually get us?"

"Close enough you won’t drown before land," Nona said. "That’s the line."

Ragnar nodded.

"That’s enough."

Nona looked around the room again, eyes stopping on Sophia longest.

"It’s been years."

"Too many," Sophia said.

Nona gave a small smile.

"Then let’s not waste them. Be at the Pearl by first light. Don’t make me wait."

She turned to leave.

Sophia called out.

"Nona."

Nona stopped, back still to the room.

"Thanks. For doing this."

Nona didn’t turn.

"Don’t thank me yet. Just... come back alive."

Then she walked out, Mara right behind.

The door shut with a soft click.

Silence sat heavy for a moment.

Sophia let out a long breath.

"Well. Transport’s sorted."

Ragnar looked at her.

"Old friend?"

Sophia gave half a smile.

"Yeah. You could say that."

The red-haired woman crossed her arms.

"She was scared."

Sophia nodded slowly.

"She was. And she said yes anyway."

No one spoke after that.

They all knew what it meant.

Whatever waited on the Dark Continent was bad enough to shake a woman who had seen everything the sea could throw at her—and she was still taking them there.

Dawn would come soon enough.
