Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 425: How the hero was born.
The women halted the conversation for a moment and the Empress Mother sent for drinks. The drinks arrived along with Princess Rize who was searching for Chi Lian.
"Why is everyone hiding in here?" She asked as she settled won into a chair. "Are we plotting something or exchanging theories on Long Bo’s death. I say the wife might have done it. What are the odds of him dying so soon after the divorce? His will was not amended since they married and she is going to get everything despite the fact that they are already divorced. Talk about someone’s luck turning around."
"That is not what this about." Chi Lian told her.
Rize looked at the others curiously. With the serious looks on their faces, clearly there was something going on.
"It’s about Long Bo trying to murder me." Mei Mei shared. "Apparently, in this empire I am a very famous candidate for assassination. My list of enemies might be equal to Junjie’s."
Rize snorted. She detected so much sarcasm in Mei Mei’s voice.
"At least two are dead so that makes me safer." Mei Mei added.
Rize arched her brows curiously.
"Mo Liang is dead. Offed himself by hanging apparently and the warden has kept it under wraps." Mei Mei shared this too. "I can already imagine the conspiracies that are going to get thrown around. I will be suspect one in the eyes of the public."
"And I will be two." Chi Lian laughed. "No matter when or where he died from, people were always bound to think that we had a hand in it. Anyway, good riddance I say. We can finally close that Chapter permanently. Even the taxpayer’s money has survived being wasted on a trial and years of feeding a leech."
"Like he would have lived that long." Rize commented snarkily.
Chi Lian cleared her throat and nudged her chin on the direction of the Empress Mother. "Lets get back to the tale of Long Bo and Mo Liang. How did the plan go from him killing Mei Mei to rescuing her?"
The Empress Mother put down her glass and said, "Apparently, Mo Liang went back to share that he had received some advise from a third party on how to stage the fire better. He was worried that the third party would spill.
He had also got the wise idea to cover the floor with glue to keep Mei Mei in place while the fire burned and he wanted extra pay for his brilliance."
Mei Mei slapped the arm of the sofa. "That explains why I tried to run but couldn’t move my feet. Everyone just said I froze due to fear but that wasn’t it. I tried to escape and failed."
Rize whispered a curse under her breath, aiming it at Mo Liang. Chi Lian shattered the glass of wine in her hands.
The Empress Mother sighed. "I was just as angry as you when I found out. That is why I wasted no time in wasting them. Mo Liang confessed that when he returned, he overheard the men discussing how to get rid of him as well. So, he came up with Plan B."
Mei Mei tilted her head to the right, eyes widening slightly in realization. "He rescued me and became a national hero. His face was everywhere so Long Bo could not touch him carelessly."
"And he was under our protection as we owed him a great favor." Chi Lian finished.
The Empress Mother nodded. "You were searching for answers. If the hero died, you would have known that something was off. Long Bo paid Mo Liang’s father a lump sum of thirty million to keep the secret. If they told anyone about it, they would die.
The man squandered the money on his mistresses and failed investments. They clung on to Mei Mei more because she was their only source of wealth and security left.
When Long Bo saw Mo Liang’s rise, he assumed that he could use him again for his purposes. That is why he tried to get Junjie to support and pardon him.
As for Mo Liang, he only dared to call Long Bo because he was at the end of his rope."
"No wonder he was sure that Long Bo would help him escape the punishment of the law. The secret between them was a heavy one." Chi Lian stretched her hands. A part of her could not believe that she had not figured it out on her own.
"You know what amazes me the most in this whole thing." The Empress Mother leaned forward. "The fact that those men listened to Mo Liang and trusted him to accomplish such a big task."
"Because they planned to dispose of him anyway." Rize loudly shared her opinion. "And the plan Mo Liang came up with was better than what they had. But you are right, it is unbelievable. If I had not heard about this from you directly, I would think that it was a fictional story. He was just a child back then...what was he, fourteen or fifteen?"
"Greed has no age." The Empress Mother said softly. Her eyes found Chi Lian’s and she said, "Now you know why I had them eliminated. Everyone that was involved has been buried. We will be giving half of Long Bo’s real estate to Mei Mei as compensation."
Three out of the four women in the room gasped.
Mei Mei blurted out, "That’s billions!!"
The Empress Mother nodded. "It will take a month but we will transfer the money and properties to you. Forty percent will go to charity and the other ten will be inherited by his children.
Of course, we will be leaving out what we belongs to the royal family. So, what you will be getting is part of his businesses outside the royal family."
"Wait, what about the victims of his cruelty?" Chi Lian asked.
"They have been included in the forty percent for charity." The Empress Mother stood up. "Of course, I hope that when Mingzhu marries into the family, she will come with a hefty dowry." She extended her hand to Rize. "Walk me out dear, I need to see Junjie about all the family treasures Mo Liang sold off. Hopefully, someone kind will be able to retrieve them and return them to us."
Her eyes trailed over Chi Lian as she talked about that kind someone.
Mei Mei and Chi Lian remained alone in the office.
Chi Lian wasted no moment and asked her daughter, "Are you alright?"
Mei Mei nodded. "Now that I am swallowing up some of Long Bo’s wealth, I am more than alright. On the subject of secrets, where you ever planning to tell me about your being a system host?"
