Chapter 126: Wider crack

Two days had passed since the invasion of the shamans and it was a solemn time for the survivors in the camp, just a few days ago they experienced a crisis.

For the sake of the survivors, the plans of the shamans were revealed causing mass hatred for the shamans. If it was a natural cause, it would have been easier to accept, but under the schemes of another, it was just different.

And because of that, a mass burial was held close to the cursed land and a two-day mourning and rest was ordered for them all, including evolvers, workers, and policemen which then put the whole burden of monitoring the perimeter and overseeing the camp to Jon, and the girls.

However, they didn’t just wait in a particular location or move around the camp. No, they were preparing for the next step after the two days.

In the two days, he and the girls went out to catch various monsters, from shadow cats, toothed tigers, flaming beetles, and other monsters. Then they created various areas and using the ’Piece’, they duplicated the monsters. Jon also focused his range at the four cardinal points regularly to ensure no second-realm monsters were around.

Normally, the evolvers would have to find the monsters to fight, however this time, it was readily available for them. Using the opportunity, Nancy also leveled up. She noticed if she wanted to do more, that was the only way and the leaders supported it. Though it hadn’t occurred yet, things were only going to get more dangerous, and they couldn’t have an important person not able to protect herself.

So after a very stressful two days for some, sad days for some, and a relaxation period for others, the second day ended and the third day came.

It was time for them to move on. Being sad wouldn’t change anything but being strong would. So as usual, the evolvers gathered around the exit of the gate.

This was where they would be assigned their locations for scouting, however, today was different.

With mixed feelings, the evolvers faced their leaders. Jon, Jenny, Cynthia, Laura, and Alexa were currently standing before the camp’s evolvers.

Jon started, "As you all know, second-realm monsters have begun appearing, but we aren’t ready to face them yet. So, today, it will be another general level-up. Outside the perimeter of this camp, you will find monsters loitering around. Now is the time to focus your rage on the common enemy, kill them, and use them to bolster your strength, if you are tired and hungry, feast on them, and come back stronger. Now go."

"Yes."

With a unified response, the evolvers ran towards the camp’s entrance.

-That was a nice way to boost their morale.

Amelia spoke to him. It had been two days since she spoke to him.

’Where were you?’ Jon had forgotten about Amelia. These two days had been too hectic for him and if he had to say, in these two days, it was more like the girls continuously leveling up while he prepared the arenas.

-Well, you were busy so I was looking around the world.

’Hah?’ Jon was almost dumbfounded. Maybe only Amelia could say something like moving around the world so casually.

’And what did you see?’

-Abnormalities upon abnormalities, I meant it when I said it, this world is strange.

Amelia frowned as she recalled the things she sensed around.

’Hey, don’t eye my world too much.’ Jon stopped her thoughts.

-Baa, since when was it your world?

Amelia rolled her eyes.

’Well, that has a bit of truth in it, but I won’t let any of those factions own this world.’ Jon sounded serious as he said.

-Hmm? So you plan to take over this world?

Amelia asked if that was his goal.

’No, It might not be going the way I want it, but I want to live a life where I can do what I want.’ He explained that taking over the world would only be more work than he already had.

-Hmm...is that really what you think?

Amelia asked.

’What do you mean?’ Jon frowned. He couldn’t shake off the feeling Amelia was about to say something he wasn’t going to like.

-Do you think it was a coincidence you found that ’Piece’?

’Then I will throw it away.’ Jon said defiant.

-Will you? 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Amelia asked at a close distance. He couldn’t see her but he had a feeling she was very close to him. She was asking if he could give up the ’Piece’ after seeing its abilities.

’Hah...please don’t make this any more difficult.’ Jon shook his head. His parents, Jenny, Cynthia, and now Amelia. He just couldn’t understand what they saw in him.

He wanted to live a peaceful life where he could do whatever he wanted, and he would try to avoid a situation where he was in a leadership position as much as possible.

"You guys, it’s our time to move too," Jon spoke to the girls. After nodding, they dispersed.

-What are you planning to do now?

’So I...’ he explained the situation where he met Syria. They spent time on the bigger matter and neglected the smaller issues, so after telling the girls, the plan was, as the evolvers took care of the outside, they would focus on the inside.

-Hmm...I thought you said you wanted peace, why do you care?

’Haa...you know, before the fall, we blamed the authorities for even the smallest of issues. So finding myself in a similar position, I can’t turn into a hypocrite, right?’

Jon explained as he sighed. If this was really how the presidents felt, then they were doing a damn good job.

’He is different. Is this supposed to be a 19-year-old?’ Amelia couldn’t believe it. To her, that age was still like a child, however here was that ’Child’ leading lives. She couldn’t help but be impressed.

So for the next week, while the evolvers went outside, Jon and the girls focused on the needs of the survivors. Using their senses, they filtered the conversations of the survivors picked the important matters, and spoke to them about it.

Due to that, more jobs were created for the outstanding ideas that were brought up. The sudden change to the living standard couldn’t be more obvious as they disguised themselves and went around.

Also during the week, Jon and Amelia spoke more, and unknown to Jon, the crack on one of his skills opened wider causing his original emotions to show forth.

And it wasn’t only shown to Amelia, the girls found Jon speaking more and he even started smiling more often, however, there was now a weird habit of staring into the sky.

’Do you think?’ Cynthia sent an internal message to Jenny.

’Yes, I think so.’

There was always a strange synchrony between Jenny and Cynthia. It was a situation where they had already both deducted the situation and just went straight to their thoughts on it.

’Haa...it’s been way over a month now.’ Cynthia sounded sadder than she usually sounded.

’Yeah...’ Jenny looked up to the sky and smiled. Watching Jon go from a normal boy to a murderer to distancing himself was particularly hurting, considering she couldn’t do anything about it.

...

Jon suddenly gathered the girls as he had something important to say,

"For this week, I want to go back to the blacksmith." he glanced down at his black rod. It was high time.

"Oh, a weapon...which one?" Cynthia asked.

"I’m thinking spear and something else, I don’t know...Anyways, you guys can relax a bit now, with the number of first realm evolvers increasing every day, we can take a breather." With that, he left them.

Soon, he was standing before the entrance of the camp’s blacksmith.
