Chapter 100: 100: Found someting new- Part 2

That night, sleep eluded him.

Liam tossed and turned in bed, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t get his mind to quiet down. Thoughts of his future, of dungeons, of growing stronger—they all ran in endless loops inside his head.

With a frustrated sigh, he finally gave up.

Slipping out of bed, he decided to go for a walk to clear his mind.

The night air was crisp and cool as he stepped outside. The world was quiet, with only the faint rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of the city in the background.

He was about to start walking when he noticed a familiar figure standing a short distance away.

Elder Erin.

The elder stood with his hands behind his back, gazing up at the night sky as if lost in thought. Upon hearing Liam’s footsteps, he turned his head slightly.

"Can’t sleep?"

Elder Erin asked.

Liam sighed.

"Yeah."

A moment of silence stretched between them before the elder spoke again.

"This new ’job’ of yours... does it have anything to do with dungeons?"

Liam didn’t answer.

Elder Erin turned fully to face him now, his expression calm but firm.

"Liam. You are talented, but talent alone is not enough to survive the world you are stepping into."

Liam met his gaze, his face unreadable.

Elder Erin exhaled.

"I won’t tell you what to do. But I will give you this warning—think carefully about your choices. Some paths can never be undone."

Liam’s fingers twitched, but he gave no response.

After a few seconds, Elder Erin let out a soft sigh.

"I see. Well, whatever you decide... I hope you are prepared."

With that, the elder turned and walked back inside, leaving Liam alone in the night.

Liam remained standing there for a while, staring up at the stars.

Elder Erin’s words lingered in his mind.

But despite the warning, his resolve didn’t waver.

If anything... it only strengthened his desire to move forward.

Liam couldn’t shake off the lingering unease from Elder Erin’s words. They triggered something deep inside him—a need to prove himself.

He wasn’t some naive kid stumbling blindly into danger. He knew what he was doing.

With that in mind, he decided to practice a little more before heading to bed.

Stepping back outside, he focused on his mana, letting it flow through him as he carefully controlled its movements. He refined his casting speed, reinforced his mental defenses, and sharpened his ability to manipulate energy with precision.

Asger, lazily watching from a nearby perch, clicked his tongue.

"You’re at it again? You barely sleep as it is."

Liam smirked.

"Can’t afford to slack off."

The half-dragon rolled his eyes but didn’t say anything else. Instead, he yawned and stretched out his limbs, eventually curling up on the rooftop to sleep.

Liam continued for another hour before exhaustion finally caught up with him. His muscles ached, and his magic reserves were running low. Deciding that was enough for one night, he returned inside and collapsed onto his bed.

He fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

The next morning, Liam’s internal clock woke him up before the sun had fully risen. His body automatically moved through the motions of his morning routine—stretching, push-ups, sit-ups, and some light sparring practice with Asger.

The familiarity of it all was comforting.

However, as he finished up and prepared to get ready for work, something clicked in his mind.

He had quit.

For a moment, he stood still, towel draped over his shoulders as realization sank in.

He was unemployed again.

Yet, instead of feeling horrible or panicked, like he expected... he felt fine.

Better than fine, actually.

There was no sinking dread at the thought of another grueling shift, no weight of obligations he didn’t care for. It was freeing in a way he hadn’t anticipated.

With a small chuckle, he shook his head and made his way downstairs.

The scent of food greeted him as he entered the kitchen. Elder Erin was already there, preparing breakfast with a calm efficiency that spoke of years of experience.

Liam hesitated for a moment before stepping forward.

"Need a hand?"

Elder Erin glanced at him, mildly surprised, before nodding.

"You can chop the vegetables."

Liam grabbed a knife and got to work, following the elder’s precise instructions. He’d never been the best cook, but he figured it wouldn’t hurt to learn from someone as experienced as Elder Erin.

As they worked in comfortable silence, Liam found himself growing curious.

"When did you start learning magic?"

Elder Erin hummed thoughtfully as he flipped something in the pan.

"I discovered my affinity when I was sixteen, but I didn’t start practicing until much later. My circumstances at the time made it difficult to pursue magic seriously."

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"What kind of circumstances?"

The elder chuckled.

"That is a story for another time."

Liam didn’t push. Instead, he nodded and continued chopping, occasionally sneaking glances at the way Elder Erin worked.

There was a certain grace to his movements, a well-practiced flow that made cooking seem almost like a form of magic in itself.

"I figured you were the type to start young. You seem too skilled to have learned late."

Liam admitted.

Elder Erin smirked.

"And you seem too knowledgeable for someone who claims to have no magic"

Liam merely shrugged.

The conversation remained light after that, and the tension from the previous night faded away.

For once, it felt... normal.

And Liam didn’t mind that at all.

As they finished cooking, Liam took a moment to appreciate the quiet atmosphere. It wasn’t often that he had moments like this—just simple, everyday interactions without any underlying tension or ulterior motives.

Elder Erin set the table while Liam brought the food over. Bianca stumbled in, looking half-asleep, grumbling something about officials ruining her life.

Asger, now fully awake, sniffed the air eagerly.

"Finally! Took you long enough."

Liam rolled his eyes but didn’t argue.

For now, he decided to enjoy breakfast. There would be plenty of time later to worry about dungeons, magic, and everything else that came with his new path.
