Last Wizard King's SSS-Level Magic system in Modern World-Chapter 107: Changing Identity- Part 1
Chapter 107: 107: Changing Identity- Part 1
"We will cast a few assessment spells. These will help determine your mana capacity, magical resistance, and potential."
Aldric explained.
Liam kept his face neutral.
"Go ahead."
The first spell landed.
Nothing happened.
A second spell.
Again, nothing.
Professor Elara narrowed her eyes.
"Strange... Try another."
The third spell shimmered in the air before disappearing without effect.
A tense silence settled in the room.
Liam sighed internally. He had seen this coming.
His system had warned him the moment the first spell was cast.
[Warning: Analyzing Magic Detected. Accept assessment?]
[Decline]
The moment he rejected the spell, the magic simply fizzled out, unable to touch him.
To the instructors, it looked as though he had no mana to analyze at all.
Professor Dain grunted.
"Did you even cast it properly?"
Aldric scowled.
"Of course I did."
Elara pursed her lips.
"Maybe... he just has no magic?"
The three professors shared an uneasy look.
Elder Erin, however, remained silent.
Liam could see it—their doubt.
They thought he was a normal human.
Maybe, at most, a Warden—someone who had high physical abilities but no magic.
The instructors looked at Elder Erin, as if silently questioning his judgment.
Elder Erin only smiled.
"Continue."
Aldric hesitated before finally sighing.
"Fine. We’ll move on to the dungeon test."
With a wave of his hand, he activated a formation.
A section of the coliseum floor rippled, then transformed into the entrance of a small dungeon.
"This is an E-Rank Dungeon. It is designed for students who have recently awakened their magic."
Aldric explained.
"Your task is to fight your way through the dungeon and face the final boss."
Dain added but his expression told Liam that he was not too confident in his chances.
"The better you perform, the higher you’ll be ranked."
Elara continued.
Liam analyzed the dungeon entrance. From what his system told him, this was a low-level challenge—something meant for beginners.
Easy enough.
He stepped forward, ready to enter, when suddenly—
His feet stopped.
Something was wrong. Or rather, his body felt like it did not want to move in front of the eyes looking at him. He did not want to show his magic in this form.
’Looks like I formed a psychological condition without realizing it. This is bad, but not impossible to deal with. Looks like I will have to reveal a card I did not intend to reveal this early.
A deep, unsettling feeling curled in his gut.
Liam turned back to Elder Erin.
"I want to pull out."
He said confidently.
The room fell silent.
Elder Erin raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
The professors visibly relaxed, as if they had expected this outcome.
"Heh, I knew it. It looks like even the best people can make mistakes."
Dain muttered under his breath.
Liam ignored them. His focus was on Elder Erin.
"There’s something I need to talk to you about before I take this test. Alone"
Liam said.
Elder Erin studied him for a moment, then nodded.
"Very well."
With a flick of his wrist, he cast a barrier around them, ensuring no one else could hear.
Liam exhaled slowly.
He could feel that the magic was prtecting this place, but he still needed to be sure. That was why, he check with the sysem as well. Once he was sure that this place was safe, Liam decided to drop the news.
"I want to enter the academy not as Liam Sanders."
Elder Erin’s expression remained unreadable.
"Then as who?"
Liam met his gaze.
"As Nico Vale."
For the first time, Elder Erin’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"...And who is Nico Vale?"
Liam took a moment to think.
"Oi human, are you sure you want to trust this old man?"
Asger asked but Liam had already made up his mind about telling someone. His instincts told him that he won’t be able to hide his identity for any longer.
His system had warned him not to disclose too much information, but he needed Elder Erin’s cooperation.
Finally, he spoke.
"Nico Vale is... who I want to be in this academy. If I enter as Liam Sanders, it will attract too much attention from unwanted sources."
He said carefully.
Elder Erin hummed.
"And why is that?"
Liam clenched his fist.
"You already know."
Elder Erin chuckled.
"Perhaps."
Liam exhaled.
"I need a fresh start. A name with no ties to my past. If people find out who I really am, it could cause problems—for both of us. This new identity was crafted by me for this very purpose."
Elder Erin considered him for a moment.
Then, a small smile formed on his lips.
"Clever. You want to erase your past before it can catch up to you."
He said.
Liam didn’t respond.
Elder Erin studied him for a few more seconds before finally nodding.
"Very well, Nico Vale. I will arrange it...did you also check your magic and stats? Tell me all you can so that I can prepare for it accordingly."
He said.
Liam felt a weight lift off his shoulders.
"Thank you."
Elder Erin chuckled.
"Don’t thank me yet."
He turned toward the barrier, dismissing it.
Liam knew what that meant.
The dungeon test was still waiting for him.
And this time, he would enter as Nico Vale.
As they returned, the instructors looked mildly surprised.
"Oh? You’re still taking the test?"
Elara asked.
Liam nodded.
"Yes."
Aldric frowned.
"You hesitated earlier."
Liam gave a small shrug.
"Just needed to make sure something first."
Dain grunted.
"Well, don’t waste any more time. Get in there."
Liam took a deep breath.
Then, he stepped forward and entered the E-Rank Dungeon.
The moment he crossed the threshold, the environment shifted.
The arena vanished, replaced by dark stone corridors lined with flickering torches. The air was damp, carrying the scent of earth and something faintly metallic—blood.
Asger, still wrapped around his shoulders, lifted his head.
"This place stinks."
Liam ignored him, his eyes scanning the surroundings.
His system activated, displaying basic information about the dungeon.
[E-Rank Dungeon: Shadow Serpent’s Nest]
[Objective: Defeat the Boss – Shadowfang, the Venomous Basilisk]
Liam cracked his knuckles.
’Alright. Let’s get this over with.’
As he moved deeper inside, he could hear something slithering in the distance.
His instincts told him that this wouldn’t be as easy as it looked.
And he was right.
Because in the shadows, something massive was waiting for him.
