Last Wizard King's SSS-Level Magic system in Modern World-Chapter 143: The excitement- Part 1
Chapter 143: 143: The excitement- Part 1
"That human sure has a talent for babbling. I don’t get what he means to say half the time," Asger complained from where he was sitting on top of Liam’s shoulder. The half-dragon seemed to have no worries, and his drooping eyes told Liam that it was time for him to head back.
Despite that, Liam felt worry creeping into his mind.
Thinking back on what Victor had told him, it was easy for Liam to conclude that Victor knew something about the person he used to be in his previous life.
Even if Victor was trying to lie and say things just to make Liam trust him, Liam’s instincts told him that he could trust Victor.
"Liam, you’re not thinking of seeking this human out, right? Somehow, I don’t have a good feeling about that man’s invested interest in you," Asger commented from his spot on Liam’s shoulder, and this time, Liam had to agree with him.
"I know. I also have a feeling that Victor is not someone I should get close to. I’ll do my best to ignore him for now," Liam pointed out as he walked back home, his mind full of questions. But it was nothing a good sleep couldn’t fix.
And that was how a whole week passed.
Before Liam knew it, it was time for the academy to start once more, and he was being woken up by Elder Erin to head out.
"I cannot believe that vacation ended so early. Who knew studying could be such a burden on one’s mind and soul? I feel like I’m going to have a headache because of all this," Liam complained as he yawned and walked toward the academy.
As he walked, he noticed a key difference from before.
Instead of people talking with each other, everyone seemed to be in a serious mood. But as far as Liam knew, the details of what happened with Ethan and the specific magical phenomenon accident had not been released.
So either someone leaked something they weren’t supposed to, or people were having fun coming up with their own theories about what happened.
Knowing that there were all kinds of age groups around Liam, it could be either case.
However, this quietness did not last long. The closer Liam got to the academy, the livelier it became. The noise was getting louder and louder until he could hear nothing but the cheers of the people.
"Ugh, looks like these humans are up to something again. I say we leave them be and not pay attention. I don’t think my head can take this much noise," Asger complained as he blocked his ears. His face was filled with annoyance as he looked at their surroundings.
Liam agreed that the noise was too much, but his ears were much less delicate compared to the half-dragon’s. So it was easier for Liam to walk through the crowd.
What he did not like was how he was being jerked around by these people.
Liam made it all the way to the other side before he took a deep breath and decided to ask himself the important question out loud.
"Just what the heck is going on here? Why are all the students behaving like monkeys that have lost their minds?"
Liam’s voice was filled with barely concealed disgust.
Seeing all these students yelling and howling reminded Liam of watching fans at a concert or, worse, at a sports meet. Just the thought of it made Liam shiver.
Liam decided to take a seat nearby and wait for this rush to finish. He did not want to be the first (and likely only one) to make it to the class on time.
So, Liam waited around for the students to start heading back to their classes, but to his surprise, the tension and excitement only seemed to grow.
Instead of dying down, the energy in the air intensified as more students gathered, chattering excitedly about something he didn’t quite understand.
Not in the mood to get caught up in whatever this was, Liam took a seat at the curb a little farther away from the crowd.
From his vantage point, he could observe the people around him without being in the middle of the chaos.
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched the students buzzing with anticipation.
As he was doing this, he didn’t notice the person who had taken a seat beside him.
"You don’t seem particularly excited."
A voice suddenly spoke.
Liam blinked and turned to find an unknown male wearing thick glasses staring at him with a curious expression.
The guy had a lanky build, and his oversized sweater made him look even smaller. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose before continuing.
"So, which guild are you interested in joining?"
The boy asked, sounding completely serious.
Liam raised an eyebrow at the sudden question. He had no idea who this glasses-wearing kid was, and he definitely hadn’t expected to be roped into a conversation.
"What?"
Liam asked blankly.
The boy adjusted his glasses again, looking equally confused by Liam’s response.
"The tournament, of course. Everyone’s excited about it. Which guild do you want to get into? I assume you’re aiming for one of the top-tier ones?"
Liam stared at him, utterly lost.
"I have no idea what you’re talking about."
Now it was the kid’s turn to look surprised. He studied Liam for a moment, as if trying to determine whether or not he was joking.
But when he realized that Liam truly had no idea what was happening, he let out a sigh of disbelief.
"Seriously? You don’t know about the upcoming academy tournament?"
The kid sounded serious when he asked this. It seems that this tournament was something everyone should know about.
And yet, Liam had no idea what was happening.
"See Liam, you are out of the loop a lot. Try to keep up with humans...at least a little bit."
Asger complained from his shoulder.
