Chapter 76: 76: The Beginner’s Dunegon- Part 3

Liam had always been someone who avoided challenges and took the easy way out. So that was why he had braced himself to forcefully go through this dungeon and not like it.

But he was surprised to be proven wrong.

As they moved deeper, they encountered a few goblins—small, green creatures that barely posed a threat. Liam dispatched them quickly, using precise strikes rather than brute force.

"Wow, what a challenge."

Asger said dryly.

Liam shot him a look.

"We’re not here for a challenge. I just wanted to check it out."

Asger grumbled under his breath but continued following Liam as they explored.

After a few more minutes of walking, they reached what looked like a small shrine in the middle of the dungeon. A strange, glowing crystal hovered above a stone pedestal, pulsing with a faint blue light.

Liam’s instincts immediately kicked in.

This... is not normal.

"Asger, back up."

Liam said cautiously.

The half-dragon raised an eyebrow but did as he was told.

Liam approached the pedestal carefully, studying the crystal. It didn’t look dangerous at first glance, but something about it felt wrong. The energy it gave off was different from the rest of the dungeon—too old, too powerful for a place meant for beginners.

He reached out a hand but stopped just before touching it.

"System, Analyze this object"

Liam whispered.

[Analyzing...]

A moment later, a response flashed across his vision.

[Warning! Unknown artifact detected. Energy signature does not match dungeon parameters. Possible anomaly found.]

Liam’s eyes narrowed.

An anomaly... in a beginner’s dungeon?

"Asger, something’s not right here."

Liam said, his voice firm.

The half-dragon tensed, immediately going on alert.

Liam took a deep breath, steadying himself. Whatever this was, it wasn’t supposed to be here.

And that meant one thing.

This "beginner’s dungeon" was hiding something much more dangerous than anyone realized.

Liam and Asger exchanged glances, both now fully alert. The dungeon had been a standard training ground up until now, but the presence of this strange artifact changed everything.

Before Liam could decide what to do next, the entire chamber trembled. The glowing crystal on the pedestal flickered wildly, pulsing with a dark energy that sent shivers down his spine.

Then, the ground beneath them cracked.

A deep, guttural growl echoed through the room.

"Asger, back up!"

Liam ordered, stepping forward as the cracks spread outward from the pedestal.

A moment later, something burst forth from the ground—a creature unlike any of the weak monsters they had encountered before.

A massive, quadrupedal beast with dark, chitinous armor and glowing blue eyes emerged. Its form was hunched, its jagged claws scraping against the dungeon floor, and its maw dripped with a strange, shimmering liquid that hissed as it touched the stone.

Liam immediately knew—this was no ordinary enemy.

[Warning! Unidentified boss-level entity detected.]

The system’s message flashed before him, confirming his suspicions.

What the hell is a boss like this doing in a beginner’s dungeon?

Asger’s tail flicked, and he took a step forward. "I can handle this. A thing like this is no match for the mighty—"

"No, Let me do this alone. This is a good time for me to test my skills"

Liam interrupted.

Asger raised an eyebrow, clearly irritated, but Liam wasn’t backing down. This was the perfect opportunity to test his growth.

"...Fine, But if you get yourself killed, I’m not carrying your body out of here. I will absorb the last drop of magic you have and take all your money to buy ice-creams."

Asger huffed, stepping back.

Liam smirked.

"Noted...Do go easy on the ice-creams or you will develop diseases."

he beast didn’t wait for pleasantries. With a guttural roar, it lunged at Liam, its claws slashing through the air like deadly scythes.

Liam barely dodged, twisting his body just enough to avoid a fatal hit. The wind pressure alone from the strike sent dust flying.

Fast.

He steadied his stance and activated his mana flow. His body pulsed with energy as he reinforced his limbs, increasing his speed and reaction time.

The beast attacked again, swiping its claws at him with terrifying speed. This time, Liam was ready. He ducked beneath the strike and retaliated with a powerful mana-infused punch to the creature’s side.

The impact sent the beast skidding back, but to Liam’s surprise, it barely seemed fazed.

That chitin armor is tough. Normal attacks won’t do much.

The creature roared again, its glowing blue eyes narrowing as the markings on its body brightened. Then, without warning, dark tendrils of energy erupted from its back, lashing toward Liam like whips.

His eyes widened.

Magic-based attacks too?

Liam leaped backward, barely dodging the first few tendrils. One grazed his shoulder, and even with his reinforced body, he felt the painful sting of corrupted mana seeping into his skin.

It was not that his magic was not working, but he was not using enough force when he calculated his spells in his mind. His magic control was still not perfect which meant that he needed to adapt quickly.

"Tch..."

Liam gritted his teeth.

If I take too many hits, this could turn ugly.

He focused, quickly shifting his approach. His normal strikes weren’t enough, but what about something more refined?

Liam closed his eyes for a split second, gathering his mana into his right hand. Instead of brute force, he channeled it into a piercing point.

When he opened his eyes, his fingers glowed with concentrated energy.

Time to see if this works.

The beast lunged again, but this time, Liam dashed forward to meet it head-on. Just as its claws swung down, he twisted his body, narrowly dodging the strike, and thrust his hand forward.

His attack struck the creature’s exposed joint, the mana-infused strike piercing through its thick armor. The beast howled in pain as dark energy crackled from the wound.

Liam didn’t waste the opening. He spun, landing a powerful kick to the creature’s head, sending it crashing into the wall.

It staggered, clearly weakened.

The markings on its body glowed even brighter, and Liam felt a surge of energy fill the room.

He frowned. It’s preparing a final attack.

The beast roared, gathering dark energy into its mouth. A condensed sphere of corrupted mana began forming, growing larger by the second.

Liam knew he couldn’t let it finish.

He took a deep breath, steeling himself.

Then, he sprinted forward.

The beast released the attack just as Liam moved, but he was already one step ahead. He shifted his mana into his legs, propelling himself forward with a burst of speed.

As the dark energy blast erupted, Liam twisted his body mid-air, narrowly avoiding the deadly explosion. The moment he landed, he gathered the last of his mana into his palm.

With one final push, he struck the beast directly in its exposed wound.

A sharp crack echoed through the chamber.

The boss froze, its glowing eyes flickering wildly before, finally, it collapsed. Its massive form crashed to the ground, and a final burst of mana dispersed into the air.

Silence followed.

Liam exhaled heavily, wiping sweat from his forehead.

[Boss defeated. Analyzing dropped rewards...]

Liam barely had the energy to read the system prompt, but a victorious smile crept onto his lips.
