Chapter 79: 79: A New Identity - Part 2

Liam tapped his fingers against the armrest of his chair, watching Vincent work with the precision of someone who had done this countless times before.

The man’s hands moved quickly, inscribing enchantments onto the fake documents with a practiced ease that suggested he wasn’t just an ordinary conman—he was an expert.

"How long will this take?"

Liam asked, his voice even. He didn’t trust Vincent, and the sooner this was done, the better.

Vincent didn’t even glance up.

"Oh, don’t worry, my friend. I am a professional. Give me half an hour, and you’ll have a flawless identity, complete with a verifiable history that even the most diligent investigator would struggle to question."

Liam nodded but remained wary. He kept an eye on Vincent’s every movement, making sure the man wasn’t adding any hidden spells or enchantments that would allow him to track Liam later.

True to his word, Vincent completed the identity in under an hour.

The result was impressive—Liam now had an alternate persona, complete with a new name, age, and background that seamlessly blended into both the human world and the magical society.

Vincent handed him the documents with a satisfied smirk. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"A fine piece of work, if I do say so myself. Now, would you like one for your dragon friend here as well?"

Liam stiffened slightly, but he didn’t let his unease show. He had expected Vincent to try and squeeze more money out of him.

Asger, who had been quiet up until now, scoffed.

"I don’t need a fake identity, especially not one made by you."

Liam shook his head.

"No, just mine will do."

Before Vincent could try to upsell him again, Liam activated the memory-wiping spell he had paid extra for.

He felt the magic hum in the air, seeping into Vincent’s mind. The man blinked once, then twice, his confident smirk fading as confusion clouded his features.

Liam discreetly checked with his system.

[Memory-wiping spell successfully applied. Target has forgotten all traces of your presence and the transaction.]

Satisfied, Liam placed the agreed-upon gold on the table and stood up.

"Pleasure doing business with you."

He said, even though he knew Vincent wouldn’t remember this meeting at all.

Without another word, he and Asger left the run-down guild, stepping back into the streets as if nothing had happened.

Once they were a safe distance away, Liam exhaled and turned to Asger.

"Well, that’s done."

Asger crossed his arms."I still don’t like that guy."

"You don’t have to. We’re never coming back here anyway. So, how do you feel about another dungeon raid?"

Liam dismissed the thought and changed the subject.

The half-dragon’s ears perked up. "Another one? You sure you can handle it after what happened last time? Aren’t humans fragile and need to rest often?"

Liam smirked.

"That’s why I’m asking you to come along."

Asger rolled his eyes.

"Of course you are. Alright, fine. I could use some entertainment. But won’t that defeat the purpose of getting a new identity?"

Liam’s smirk widened.

"How about you come as my familiar? But make yourself change form to look less like your original self. That way, no one would be able to recognize you.

That made Asger freeze mid-step. His golden eyes widened, a mixture of offense and intrigue flashing across his face.

"Excuse me? Are you asking me to lower myself to the status of a mere pet?"

Asger asked, his voice dangerously low.

Liam shrugged.

"Not a pet—a companion. If you register as my familiar, we can bypass a lot of annoying red tape, and you wouldn’t have to deal with humans questioning what a half-dragon is doing in their dungeon."

Asger’s tail flicked in irritation. He looked like he wanted to argue, but after a moment, he let out a reluctant sigh. "I hate that you make sense sometimes."

"So, you’re in?"

Asger huffed.

"Fine. But if anyone treats me like a house cat, I’m frying them."

Liam chuckled.

"Fair enough. But make sure to not look like a half-dragon. I will register you as one, but as long as no one asks, no one needs to know. Now, let me find a dungeon we can head toward."

Liam let his system do this manual work. It was easy and the system got a match for him.

[Appropriate dungeon found. Would User like to have the location and coordinates?]

After finding a medium-level dungeon that seemed promising, Liam and Asger made their way to the dungeon registration office.

Liam would have liked to head toward the dungeon directly and enter it, but unfortunately, it was something that could not be done without causing trouble.

As per laws, one needed a pass to get into the dungeons and that could only be obtained at the central facility or by request. He did not have time for a request, so a visit to the office was what he decided on.

It was a large, well-organized facility filled with adventurers of various ranks. Some were checking in for dungeon runs, while others were haggling over loot they had recovered.

There was a lot of diversity, so no one paid attention to someone new like Liam. To them, he was just fresh meat that had not had a taste of hardship yet.

Liam walked up to the registration desk, flashing his newly obtained identification. The clerk, a middle-aged man with graying hair, barely glanced at it before shaking his head.

"You don’t qualify. I’m sorry but we cannot allow you entry into the dungeon."

The man said bluntly and he looked a little sorry for Liam. The pity in his eyes was something that Liam had not seen before.

"What do you mean?"

Liam frowned, not understanding why he was being stopped. According to the system, the dungeon was not that difficult, so he should be fine.

The clerk sighed, clearly used to dealing with people who didn’t read the regulations.

"You lack the proper credentials. Medium-level dungeons require a registered adventurer ranking of at least C-Class. You don’t have that."
