Chapter 89: 89: An offer to join

"Nice Vale? I will make sure to remember your name."

Zane nodded, as if committing the name to memory before he continued.

"Well then, Nico, I have an offer for you. If you don’t have anywhere else to be, why don’t you join our party for a while?"

Liam didn’t hesitate when he answered.

"No."

Zane blinked, clearly not expecting such an immediate and blunt rejection.

"Just like that? You’re not even going to think about it for a bit?"

"Yes."

Ethan let out an irritated scoff.

"Wow. Could you be any ruder?"

Liam glanced at him but didn’t respond.

Elaine, while quieter, frowned slightly at Liam’s lack of consideration.

"You don’t have to say it like that..."

She mumbled.

Zane sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Alright, alright. No need to start a fight. Look, I get it. You’re not interested, and that’s fine. I won’t push"

He turned back to Liam, his expression more sheepish than anything.

Liam simply nodded, prepared to walk away, but Zane wasn’t done talking.

"However, if you’re not completely against the idea of teaming up, I do have something else to offer. I’ve been planning to take these two into a B-class dungeon soon, and I could use an extra hand."

Zane continued, his tone shifting slightly.

Liam paused at that.

A B-class dungeon, huh?

That was much more interesting than staying in this low-level wasteland.

Still, he didn’t want to seem too eager.

"Why are you asking me?"

Zane chuckled.

"Well, you’re obviously strong, and you took down that C-class boss like it was nothing. I have a feeling a B-class dungeon would be more suited to your skill level. I wanted to take these kids to a higher-class dungeon, but I can’t do that alone."

Ethan frowned, still clearly unhappy.

"You don’t even know if he’s trustworthy. What if he lets us die...or has bad intentions."

Elaine hesitated before adding.

"Yeah... and we don’t know anything about him."

Zane shrugged.

"That’s true. But I trust my instincts, and my instincts tell me Nico isn’t a bad guy. I feel like I can trust him, just like I can trust you both."

Liam raised an eyebrow at that but didn’t comment.

Zane then smiled.

"So? What do you say? Interested in something a little more challenging?"

Liam considered it. A B-class dungeon was far more dangerous, but that also meant better rewards and more experience. It was tempting.

After a moment of silence, he finally said.

"I’ll think about it."

Zane grinned.

"That’s all I ask. Here, call me once you make up your mind. I will respond as soon as I can."

Ethan looked like he wanted to protest, but Elaine placed a hand on his arm, silently telling him to let it go.

Liam nodded once and then walked past them, finally leaving the dungeon.

Asger let out a small laugh as soon as they were outside.

"You’re actually considering it, aren’t you?"

Liam smirked slightly.

"Maybe. This will be good for me since I won’t have to stand out if I go inside with an actual B-class."

A B-class dungeon, huh?

Now that was something to look forward to.

______

Liam exited the dungeon, stepping back into the quiet yet controlled chaos of the Magius Society’s outpost.

The receptionist barely looked up from her paperwork as she processed his dungeon completion record, only offering him a monotonous message.

"Congratulations on a successful dungeon run."

Liam simply nodded, not expecting much enthusiasm in return.

With his business at the outpost complete, he left and made his way into the city, stopping at a few markets to pick up fresh ingredients for dinner.

His usual routine was simple—cook, eat, train if necessary, and rest.

By the time he arrived home, the sun was beginning to set. He prepared a quiet meal, savoring the simple act of cooking as he let his thoughts drift to his next move.

A B-class dungeon was a tempting challenge, and he had a feeling it would provide more than just experience—it would be a useful test of his current limits.

After finishing his meal and cleaning up, Liam went to bed early, deciding he would make his decision in the morning.

As soon as Liam woke up, he grabbed his device and sent a message to Zane.

Liam: I’m free today. If you still want to go to that B-class dungeon, let’s do it.

The response was almost instant.

Zane: Great! Meet me at XXX-Dungeon in two hours. Bring whatever you need.

Liam smirked slightly at the speed of the reply before he got up and started getting ready. He packed light—his usual weapons, some potions just in case, and his cloak to keep a low profile.

Two hours later, Liam arrived at the designated location. The entrance to the B-class dungeon was within a dense forest, its massive archway pulsing faintly with magic.

Zane and his party were already there, waiting near the entrance.

As soon as Liam approached, Ethan scowled but said nothing, while Elaine only gave a small nod in greeting. Zane, on the other hand, grinned.

"Glad you could make it."

Liam gave a curt nod but quickly noticed something unusual. The area wasn’t empty—far from it. There were at least a dozen other parties scattered around, each group eyeing the others warily.

Some were adjusting their gear, others were whispering among themselves, and a few looked outright hostile at the sight of unfamiliar faces.

Liam frowned.

"Why are there so many people here?"

Before Zane could answer, Ethan snorted.

"Wow. Do you live under a rock or something? You really don’t know what kind of dungeon this is? Even kids know about this place."

He crossed his arms, his smirk full of mockery.

Liam felt a jab of irritation, but the system suppressed his emotions and helped Liam keep his calm.

Getting angry or annoyed at a kid was not something Liam wanted to do, so he kept quite and looked at Zane for an answer instead.
