Chapter 233: [Waiting] [Awkward]

[Emery’s POV]

[Waiting]

Thinking and thinking of ways on how to covet Lance for myself, I did not notice I already walked a few kilometers and was already standing in front of Azure Sky, where Lance and Lawrence currently resides. I didn’t even feel the burn on my soles. My body just led me here without knowing it.

W-what happened?

I distinctly remembered that I was still in school after my class ended.

And now . . .

I was standing in front of Azure Sky, looking stupid, unsure of what to do. My mind blanked out and I was sure that I looked stupid, right now.

I wanted to return to school and wait for Lance, but my legs refused to move. Then my brain lit up like a light bulb with the idea that if I could not corner him at school –– I might as well corner him in his unit.

That is right!

He would surely come back to his unit. He couldn’t escape me forever!

I patted myself on how smart I was.

. . .

. . .

Minutes passed so slow as the stinging strain on my feet intensified from standing on my three inches Dolce and Gabanna shoes. Only now did I feel the burn and strain of my legs. I almost wanted to sit right there and then. But decided to preserved what little dignity I had left.

S-should I go in and wait for him in the lobby? I thought. The feeling of warm air and image soft couch tempted me to just go in and wait for Lance there.

However, Azure Sky was reputed to have strict security. If I was not expected, I would not be welcomed inside, even in the lobby. Even if I was a Jansen. And besides, there was a high chance that Lance was riding his bike and he would surely go straight to the basement parking and zoomed to his unit using the elevator.

We would totally mess each other and all the walking, standing and waiting would be for naught.

I waited from my spot just outside the ramp going into the parking basement as my patience was draining fast for my legs were numb and cold. Biting pain made everything uncomfortable.

I knew Lance and Lawrence never drove their car going to the University. They rode their bicycles instead. Probably from their sister’s influence.

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

Rotten Milk!

Please do not rain!

Please do not rain!

Drizzle!

Drizzle!

Rotten milk!

It rained.

And it poured like crazy.

No!

I did not know what to do as I paced left and right, unsure of which way to go.

Back or forward.

Give up or keep pushing.

But my legs were embedded on the spot, refusing to leave nor give up. It would rather suffer tremendous muscle and nerves pains than go back.

. . .

. . .

I did not know how long I waited. I was drenching and soaking wet. My breath were foggy and cold and I bet I looked like a ghost right now. I only wish that my make up was wash off from my face so I wouldn’t look like I was going to a horror house.

I did not pay any attention to everyone’s curious stares as my eyes were glued on the building.

I hugged myself when the cold penetrated deep into my bones and my legs shook. My teeth teetered. My once soft lips were rigid that I had to bit it, again and again, to keep it soft and warm. I wouldn’t last at this rate. It would only be a matter of time before my legs gave way and I would definitely sit on the ground.

But even so, I refused to budge from my spot.

L-Lance . . .

. . .

. . .

I was breathing through my mouth when my nose clogged, giving my system as much needed oxygen to keep it awake to provide me more warmth. The weather was already cold and the added rain made it brutal.

I was like a wet abandoned kitten on the side of the sidewalk –– trembling from the cold.

I could have taken shelter at the shed, but it was twenty meters away, and I could not risk the chance of missing Lance.

I’m already wet, might as well take this to the end.

And true enough, my patience bore fruit at the sight of Lance’s approaching bike with his raincoat keeping him warm and dry.

He was stunned at the sight of me that he skidded to a stop for a moment.

I trembled when his face darkened, and before I could run away, he got off from his bike, not a care it crashed on the ground. He then crossed the distance between us and grabbed my arm –– tightly.

The warmth of his hand against my cold, wet skin filled me with comfort and terror, and my knees buckled –– good thing he was holding me.

"What the hell are you doing?! Damn it, woman!"

He hissed, and I cowered and stuttered before the anger in his voice.

"I-I-I-I . . . m-mm . . . s-s-so . . ."

I could not even speak straight as my mouth trembled from the cold.

He cursed again as he removed his raincoat and covered me with its warmth before he pulled me into the parking basement.

"Come on!"

He led me inside the elevator after he parked his bike. His jaw tightened while all I could do was shudder.

"I can’t believe you! You’re crazy! What the hell are you doing standing there in the rain?" he scolded while I listened to him like a little kid who broke his pot.

I wanted to say something, but my teeth kept stuttering.

"Move, woman!"

He pulled me inside their unit, and I followed behind but stopped in my tracks as the giggling and laughing sounds welcomed us.

"What the hell are you two doing?"

Lance hollered at the two people who were also stunned at the sight of us –– specifically, at the sight of me dripping wet.

Lawrence and Zoe were both holding a pillow and seemed to be having a pillow fight.

[Emery’s POV]

[Awkward]

After the brutal silence between the four of us, Lawrence cleared his throat and shot me a grin.

"Uh . . . Hello, Emery. Welcome to our humble abode."

Lawrence grabbed Zoe’s hand, who never stop staring at us in disbelief.

"Make yourself at home. Zoe and I will have something to take care of," he said with a coy smile on his lips, and pulled Zoe’s hand, walking past us.

But before they could ultimately be out of sight, he tapped Lance’s shoulder and shot him a mischievous smile.

"Don’t forget to use protection," he whispered, but it sure was not a murmur as it sliced through the silence of the room.

"The hell are you talking about?!"

Lance shouted, his face contorting in annoyance while I, on the other hand, already stopped shaking as I turned from a block of glacier to a hot boiling puddle of water.

Lawrence chuckled, and before Lance could hit him, he bolted out with Zoe in hand.

". . ."

". . ."

"Come on," Lance said, scratching the back of his head. "You can take a bath in my sister’s room. No one is using it at the moment."

He then led me inside a room with a clean, modern, and elegant feel to it, and I could not help but admire Leanna’s taste.

Lance withdraw his hand, and I felt the cold seeping back without the warmth of his touch.

He went into a room, and when he came out, he brought bundles of towels, a bathrobe, a t-shirt, and a pajama.

"Here. Use this in the meantime. Get yourself out of that wet clothes while I prepare the bath for you," he said, and before I could open my mouth to stop him, he stormed into the bathroom.

I glanced at the bathrobe and undressed in a hurry. Even though my fingers were shaking and frigid from the cold, I managed to unclothe and put on the robe.

After a minute, Lance came out from the bathroom, and when our eyes met, he avoided my gaze, looking all flushed.

"Hurry and go take a shower before you catch a cold," he said, "I’ll go and dry your clothes."

I assumed that he did not think what he said as he extended his hand at me. His eyes never linger a second or two on my body, which was just wrapped by a piece of cotton robe.

"Y-you do not have to . . ." I feel like my eyes were going on circles as I searched for the right words to say. "I-I can do it on my own."

"I’m angry right now," he said, frowning, "so don’t argue with me."

I bit my lips as I gave him my wet garments. My eyes then shifted away from him when my wet underwear came into view.

". . ."

". . ."

"I-I-I-I’ll . . . I’ll go now . . ."

I stuttered and scurried into the bathroom. Before I close the door, I heard him cursing with a strained voice.
