Chapter 79 - Mask of Deceit(4)

I moved forward towards the small round table, its curved edges now worn out with time. The six square-shaped plaques lay on them, organised in a grid of three. Each was carved with a different letter of the ancient script, glowing in a pulsating silver light.

I picked the first one, the letter carved on it translated to one word only.

"Stillness."

I clutched it tightly in my hands before moving back to Arvax's statue and placing the plaque in the empty space. As soon as the plaque fit, the pulsating silver light changed to that of blue.

Arvax's eyes also glowed with a blue light before dimming and becoming lifeless. "The Frost Sovereing, Arvax Elvaron Frostmarch. Also known as the Sovereign of Stillness." I exhaled before moving back to the table, picking up another plaque.

I looked at it, and the glowing letter, this time, had a different meaning. "Freedom," I mumbled, moving towards another statue.

This time, the statue was different. Instead of long pointed ears, it had human ears. That does not mean he was not good-looking—he was, but a burned scar tainted his face. He had wavy hair that dropped to his neck.

From his statue, it seemed like he wore a simple plated armour that was likely enchanted with magic, with a cloak flowing from his shoulder pads. The man held a sword, plunged with both his hands, resting over the hilt that looked like a bolt of lightning.

The sword was not simple, with an amethyst gem attached to the guard. The blade was weird with its thin blade curving like a snake's body or lightning. This sword was none other than Thorvian's Vigil, Sturmscourge.

Placing the plaque in its place, the letter glowed with a faint amethyst light along with the eyes of the statue. "The Storm Sovereign, Otto Von Blitzfeld. Also known as the Sovereign of Freedom and Movement."

[Well, isn't he the founder of the Blitzfelds?] Dante asked.

"He sure is..." I replied, chuckling and turning towards the table again. "Isn't it ironic? This guy represented Freedom but founded the most obnoxious family in the Empire of Germainia. Well, if you include the whole Continent, then the Orlovskis might take it."

Well, leaving that behind. This guy was the third and the last Human Sovereign to ever exist until recently—the current Emperor of Germainia, Christoph Kaiserfalken Von Germainia, succeeded the Steel Sovereign.

And the funny part is, the Royal family never awakened their legacy to begin with. They only had the blessing of the god of authority, which still flows in the blood of the Kaiserfalken.

The same thing happened with Aurelian's descendants, they never acquired his legacy of light. They acquired, like his five other legacies with the Legacy of Umbra awakening in Saint Vasili Chernov Orlovski.

Well, Aurelian was a unit. It was said that he could destroy the whole world if he were serious. In the lore, he literally had more than five legacies granted to him, which is insane.

And I don't know what happened to the God that gifted the Kaiserfalken their legacy, because Celestina or any other never had any legacy with them. Only the blessing.

I picked up another plaque from the table, with this time the word being "Passion". I immediately made my way towards the statue of a dwarf who had a battle axe in his hands. Placing the plaque, it glowed with the light of amber and subsided.

"The Fire Sovereign, Grimnar Firestone. Also known as the Sovereign of Passion."

After that, I placed the plaque meant for the Sovereign of Steel, Germain Kaiserfalken. His plaque meant Authority, as he was also known as the Sovereign of Authority.

Then came the Arcane Sovereign, Elbereth Thalorean, a High-Elf. Also known as the Sovereign of Knowledge.

And finally, I stopped before another familiar statue. The hero of Dawn and the Sovereign of Light and Hope, Aurelian Chernov Orlovski. The First Human Sovereign and the first king of Ironvale.

Placing down his plaque of Hope, it pulsated with golden light before dimming. The room rumbled as soon as the final plaque was placed in its designated place. Stone and dust particles fell from the ceiling, prompting me to cover my eyes.

The eyes of the Sovereigns let out a white light, their statues turning towards the one in the middle.

[Noah, look at the rods!] Dante yelled.

I shifted my gaze towards the life-draining rods, which were now slowly descending towards their base on the ground. The rumbling stopped as the rods disappeared from the front of the faceless statue.

The pristine white mask glowed with a faint pulsating light before dimming alongside the Sovereigns' eyes. Everything came to a halt; the position of the Sovereigns did not change, their stone gaze fixed on the mask.

I made my way towards the mask and placed my palm on it, feeling its rough texture. A small smile graced my lips as I lifted it from the severed head. "Finally, with this, I can start the first step of my revenge."

The mask may look simple, but one should never judge an object by its looks. This simple white mask can change the looks of a person and conceal their mana—A heavenly choice for assassins.

Croft, analyse it.

Croft replied.

Wait! Wait! What do you mean by that?

I frowned. Demon of Purity? Who the hell is that?

Croft explained.

What Croft explained to me was not present in the game at all. This mask that I am holding right now is a former Demon's skin?

Ew, what the hell!?

Disgusted, I tapped on my ring and put the mask back in storage. After such a revelation, I don't even want to wear it, but what can I do? This mask is op as hell. "I will try it out once I reach the dorm. I am tired, today was an eventful day after all."

I looked at the towering faceless statue covered in draconic scales. Is he the Demon of Purity? I asked Croft.

She simply said, adding nothing but more doubts.

I moved past the statue, heading for the wooden hatch right behind, below the wall covered by the statue's silhouette. I pulled at the still handle, creaking it open. "Time to go back."

Skrrtch!
