Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World-Chapter 115: The Horror
Gulp!
Someone gulped nervously, and gathering their courage, asked, "Were they also killed, Sir?"
Jamie glanced at the speaker.
It was a man in his early twenties, who despite trying to stay calm, was trembling ever so slightly, clearly terrified.
"Can’t you tell?" Jamie asked.
Just from the corpses’ overall mutilated appearance, it was clear they were killed, brutally at that.
The only reason he had bothered to get down the truck and examine them was to see what weapon the killer used and whether he was the one of the killers who had slaughtered several streets they had checked before this one.
And the answer he got was... Yes. They were from the same. Only, they seemed to be more frenzied than before.
’Just what’s going on here?’ He thought.
After seeing the state of corpses, for a moment, he had thought the killers were zombies, but zombies should have completely lost their minds so they shouldn’t have been able to use weapons.
Hearing Jamie counter question him, the man forced himself to answer, "I can tell, sir. I was just... I’m sorry."
As the truck continued forward, another man, a middle-aged man with some streaks of grey hair in his beard and on head shouted, "Is anyone here? We are from the Governor’s Mansion. Here to help. Come out if you are here."
The group paid attention to every house and every corner so they would notice the smallest movement or hear the faintest sounds, but there was none.
No one had survived in this street either.
"Sir, do you think they are also martial artists like yourself and Sir Williams?" The earlier young man asked.
"No." Jamie curtly said. From the wounds on the corpses, he could tell those people had no skill, just messy brute force. So, he was positive they weren’t martial artists.
However... they were stronger than an average man. And what made him serious was the fact that they seemed to be getting stronger bit by bit.
’With the onset of the change... even a small city with negligible presence of martial artists has become several times more dangerous.’ thought Jamie, his expression solemn. ’I have to be more careful.’
He knew while he was strong enough to handle these killers who took all these people’s lives, if they continued getting stronger, soon this might not be the case.
The man and others relaxed a little upon hearing the killers weren’t martial artists. While they were still in danger, with Jamie here, they felt they would be safe.
"Sir, um, I don’t want to irritate you, but can I ask you something else?" The man asked.
Jamie looked at him, stared for a moment causing the man to become nervous, then asked, "What’s your name?"
"It’s Eric, Sir." The man answered.
"Alright." Jamie nodded, "Go ahead and ask."
He didn’t have anything to do. Moreover, since they were his team members, he should talk to them... socialize a little.
Eric nodded and quickly asked, "Sir, can we also become martial artists?"
"Though it would be a little difficult due to your age, but yes, you can." Jamie nodded, then glanced at the other five, and added, "In fact, as long as you put in enough effort and have suitable medicine and techniques to practice, all of you can become martial artists."
"Really?" Everyone asked, their eyes lighting up, this was especially true for the oldest guy who looked to be fifty or so years old.
"Yeah. But remember, the older you are, the more difficult it will be. So, you need to prepare yourself to endure hardships." Jamie reiterated.
"We understand, Sir." Eric nodded before asking, "But where can we find the medicine and techniques you mentioned just now?"
"As long as you have enough Merits, you can exchange them for whatever you need with Lord Williams." Jamie casually said.
Though Max hadn’t told him whether he had any access to medicine or techniques, seeing how an inexplicable guy he was, Jamie believed he could make them available too.
"That’s wonderful. I’ll just work hard to—"
Srrrr!
Suddenly, a faint sound of something slithering sounded and Nick shut his mouth mid-sentence.
Shua!
Without Jamie’s prompting, everyone, even the driver, picked up their weapons—baseball bats, and hockey sticks.
As for Jamie, he hadn’t brought any weapon since he was more comfortable fighting bare handed.
Shua!
Tap!
He jumped down the truck after ascertaining the origin of sound—a house ten meters away on the left side of the street.
The truck was moving very slowly to begin with and after the sound, the driver had stopped it and the five on the back got down.
Four of them followed Jamie to help him in case he needed it while one stood by the truck since they couldn’t leave the driver alone in case someone suddenly jumped out of somewhere and attacked him.
Jamie arrived in front of the house and directly walked in since the door was broken and wide open.
Following the sound, he arrived in the living room and the scene made him pause—there was a naked girl in her twenties on the floor covered with dried up blood.
Neither the blood nor the fact she was naked made him pause, however, what did was the fact that her hands and feet were chopped off and from the dry blood on her mouth, he feared the same was true for her tongue.
Her eyes were blurry with blood and tears as she tried to move on the force—her body rubbing was creating the slithering sound.
When she saw the hulking Jamie appear, panic flashed in her eyes. But then she recalled he should be from the Governor’s Mansion as the voice shouted earlier and stared at him with a pleading gaze while making unintelligible sounds.
"Nnnn...@##~"
Just the look in her eyes was enough for Jamie to know what she wanted.
"You want me to... end your suffering?" he asked, his voice low.
The girl hurriedly nodded.
"Okay." Jamie nodded and walked toward her.
Eric and others arrived at this moment and their expressions became twisted when they saw the horror in the living room. Eric and the older man even seemed to be on the verge of vomiting.
Jamie squatted down beside her and with an emotionless expression on his face, he covered her eyes with one hand and twisted her neck with the other after softly whispering, "Rest in peace, sister. I’ll kill everyone who did this to you."
Crack!
Maybe because of his words or because she was about to be free of her suffering, or maybe because of both, right before she died, her face had become serene.
Jamie stood up, his face and eyes devoid of any emotion. He looked terrifyingly calm, but Eric and others could tell this wasn’t the case at all. He seemed to be on the verge of erupting.
"Go, find me something to cover her." he ordered.
"Yes, sir." Eric hurriedly entered the room on the ground floor and soon came out with a blanket.
Jamie spread it on the ground and gently placed the girl on it. Then, he put her hands and legs beside her. He also tried to find the cut off section of her tongue, but failed. So, he wrapped the blanket around her and lifted her in his arms.
"Go, bring me a shovel." He said before he walked toward the back of the house, to the small garden.
...
A while later, the group walked out of the house, and silently climbed on the truck. The driver and the other man were about to ask what had happened but Eric shook his head, and glanced at Jamie.
When the duo saw his expression, they wisely kept quiet.
A moment later, the truck started moving and soon left the street, entering the next one.
When it had disappeared...
Creak!
The floor board creaked in a house and three figures walked out.
"Governor’s Mansion is trying to save people?" One of them murmured, his eyes flickering.
"They must have a lot of supplies." Another one said.
"We should go slaughter them and take the mansion for ourselves." The third one said, his eyes red with bloodlust.
"Let’s go inform others. We’ll do what everyone decides." The first one said and began walking away.
"Hey, she is still alive. Let me have some more fun." The second guy said, licking his lips.
The first one gave him a contemptuous look, "She’s been dead for hours, you retard! Let’s just go."
"Hmph!"
