Chapter 58: The Nether Wolf

After Draven was gone, Kael spent his time trying to relax his soul and body, which seemed to have suffered heavily after just one incident.

Once that was done, Alpha informed him of something that Draven had left behind.

[According to this, you can seal the artifact in a Wall of Mana, and then you can touch it or hold it—whatever you want. It won’t be in direct contact with you and also won’t be detectable, so it won’t attract other beings.]

"That’s good," Kael sighed and asked Alpha to transfer the knowledge of how to make the Wall of Mana.

It was much easier than he expected, but it needed precise control over mana, which he certainly had, so he quickly got to work.

Reaching over to the Hand of Nyraxx, Kael stopped his hand just on top of it and let his mana leak into the atmosphere. He felt his connection loosening with that mana as it mixed with the surroundings and tried to retreat to the Astral World, but Kael held on to it.

Once a sufficient amount of mana had leaked out of his body, he compressed and solidified it through his precise control over mana, forming it like a wall around the Hand of Nyraxx.

The wall itself was invisible due to its connection with the Astral World, so it looked as if there was nothing surrounding it.

But this also meant Kael had to regularly check on it and repair the Wall of Mana often. Still, that was nothing compared to what he would be facing otherwise.

Just then, Kiona barged into the room and heaved a sigh of relief upon seeing Kael’s healthy complexion. Although she knew nothing would happen to him, the fact that he was alone in an injured state still worried her.

She smiled and said, "The Nether Fortress has been cleared, and we can head over to the Boss room any moment now. Also, I just noticed that our loot disappeared with the reset, so I guess materials that we leave anywhere in the Labyrinth return to it."

"That’s to be expected. Only the materials we have on us will be retained."

"Yes, I also guessed that, so we’ve already transported most of the material we’ll need to the entrance of the Labyrinth," Kiona reported with a prideful smile.

Kael chuckled and rubbed her head lightly, making her smile even wider, and said, "Good job. You’re already taking on the responsibilities of the higher-ups of our Nation."

He then looked over to the entrance and grinned, "Our progress is very slow here, so we need to go to the second floor. For that, we need to defeat the Boss."

Turning towards Kiona, he said, "Give that relic to Seth. We’ll return it to the Nyraxx Tribe to gain their goodwill and hopefully cooperation with our Nation."

Kiona did as she was told, and then the four of them went down into the Nether Fortress to the Boss room.

It was locked behind a giant metal door that the four were currently looking at. Then, Kael walked forward and, after giving a glance at his team, pushed the metal gate.

A harsh, grating screech echoed as the heavy door scraped open. Crimson hot winds assaulted their faces as they looked deep inside the Boss room, which was as big as a hall.

As it was only the first floor, there wasn’t anything fancy. It was just a big-sized room with the Boss and its minions against them. And they could already see the Boss.

Kael had already seen it once during intel gathering, but the sight still made his blood boil with excitement.

Atop an altar, the Nether Wolf was sitting, looking at them with its bright red eyes filled with nothing but pure hunger and madness.

Its body was just as big as the Flameclaw Lions, making it quite terrifying. Various fissures filled with hot lava were running throughout its body like superficial veins, giving it a majestic look.

It growled upon sensing that their group wasn’t going to leave it alone and gave the signal to its underlings to attack them, while the Boss also stood up to take part in the battle.

Its minions reminded Kael of Wildmutt from Ben 10, as they were like muscular dogs with valve-like nostrils and a terrifying mouth containing razor-sharp long fangs ready to chew through everything for their Boss.

There were a total of ten of them, each at D-Rank, and the Boss was also at D-Rank, but there was a clear difference in hierarchy.

The Nether Wolf was much more powerful than anyone standing in the room—or at least, that’s what its sheer presence told the world.

Kael felt challenged, and that made his Dragon blood boil in excitement and rage. How dare this puny dog dare to raise its head high under his presence?

Of course, Kael quickly reined in his reckless thoughts, as that would only lead to defeat. He calmly calculated their chances and thought,

’Was Tharnyx a psycho or what? Why would he place so many strong monsters on the first floor?’

As far as he knew, only F-Rank monsters were found on the first floor of most Labyrinths, and mostly E-Rank Bosses, which required teams to clear the floor in general.

But this Labyrinth had broken those rules and directly placed eleven D-Rank monsters in the Boss Room. What would they encounter on the second floor—a B-Rank Boss?

Kael shook off those useless thoughts as the wildmutts had begun to surround them so they wouldn’t have any way to escape.

"Seth, Jon, handle five of these dogs," Kael commanded. "Kiona, you’ll kill the other five. I’ll take this big dog."

The three of them immediately sprang into action and pounced on the wildmutts before they could form a proper formation. That would render their coordinated plans useless.

Meanwhile, Kael casually walked towards the altar, silver lightning crackling around him. "What do you say, dog? Or should I call you a bitch?"

The Nether Wolf howled as the lava flared up from its body, and the floor burst open with fountains of lava, as if responding to the calls of the Boss.

"Showing your dominance over the territory, eh?" Kael scoffed. "Let’s see how long you can keep that territory."

Then, there was no need for words as Kael swiftly used three skills simultaneously:

[Aether Scales] [Lightning Mantle] [Draconic Claws]

As the illusory scales appeared over his lightning cloak, he dashed forward, dodging the lava rain from the fountains at lightning speed and brandished his claws at the Nether Wolf.

The Boss didn’t stay idle, as it ran toward Kael, leaving behind afterimages of a crimson trail. In just over a second, the two of them met in the middle with both of their attacks arriving right before them.

A compressed lightning ball met a blazing flame dart and exploded, only to be shifted away by the two powerhouses as they clawed their way at each other.

With a crazed grin on his face, Kael ducked under the Nether Wolf’s sharp claws and tried to follow up with an uppercut from his other hand. But right then, the Boss reacted and slammed its hind legs down, making the underground burst open once again.

The battle between two powerhouses was underway.
