Chapter 96: The Moon

The formation of the canal was very simple and effective. Kael had the twins start digging not far from the river so that the pressure of water from upstream wouldn’t disturb their work.

Then, they made the pathway according to the map Alpha made, which included the best path the canal could take in this environment.

That pathway was then connected to the river further downstream, and Kael didn’t bother leaving some distance behind and directly let the canal connect with the river.

After all, the river was going downstream, and the shape of the canal was also such that only the upper stream could carry water downstream, not the other way around.

So even if some of the water had entered the canal at the end, it didn’t really affect their plans or anything.

Now, all of them were standing at the small piece of land that stood between the vast, overflowing river and the newly built canal.

Kael crossed his arms over his chest and smiled, "So, who wanna do this?"

"Of course, as the leader, you should do the starting, Master," Jon spoke with a low gurgle.

Kiona tapped on her chin and suggested, "How about you let them do it, Master? I mean, it’s them who did most of the physical work, after all. You can do the opening of our town later on."

"Nah, that’s something you’ll do," Kael waved his hand and turned towards the twins. "So, who among you wanna do it?"

Seth took two steps back and said, "I will let this hot-headed guy do it."

Jon smirked at him and then went towards the bank of the river while others moved to the side. Jon couldn’t technically blow the whole land in just one attack given his true strength, but he seemed to be liking the feeling of creating something slowly.

...or maybe they were wrong.

Jon roared loudly, shaking the air around them as the environment was once again affected. It was like the king was commanding, and the jungle had to bow their heads under mighty pressure.

Then, with a single slash from his claws, Jon shattered the land into multiple parts that were quickly attacked by the high pressure of water.

The Northern Frost River was truly powerful and tyrannical. The moment it got the chance, it destroyed everything in its path as the numerous parts of the land were quickly swallowed up by the river as the clean water turned muddy.

That same muddy water found the emptiness of the canal and tried to fill in. The emptiness wasn’t so easy to be filled, but the river also didn’t give up.

It transferred gallons of water in seconds and filled the whole trench with it. At first, the water was muddy, but the more the river attacked, the clearer it became.

Their group ran alongside the water through the jungle as they enjoyed it smashing around and filling everything in the path.

In just a few minutes of the opening, the water reached the end of the canal, forming a bond that allowed the river to cross this area in two parts.

Kael knew that if he left everything as it was, it wouldn’t take long for the river to swallow up the land in between, making its area much wider.

But he had plans for it, so he wasn’t worried. He would later widen the canal even more, making it into a small river and turn the land in between into a riverine island.

It would be a good place to set up his resting place, as he needed to be in a higher position than others if he wanted them to worship him.

’People will have less faith in living, walking beings. Only after they die will their faith truly spread around.’

As he stood atop a boulder, Kael watched the muddy water colliding with the clean river water, making a strange spectacle that somehow managed to attract him.

The evening sun definitely helped as it reflected the crimson sunlight, making the scenery even more mesmerizing. Or perhaps it was also the result of [Heart of the Sun].

He chuckled to himself and then patted the back of the twins, "Good job, you two. This turned out much better than I expected. This will create a constant, easily available supply of water for our town."

"Heheh," Jon enjoyed the praise, and there was a clear smug look on his giant face that was easily recognisable even with his bestial features.

"But Master, it is also very dangerous," Seth said thoughtfully. "While it is a way to get us water, there are also many terrifying aquatic beasts in the river. What if they come at our town?"

"I have a solution for it already," Kael said with a smile.

Just then, he noticed Kiona walking towards them with a giant metal frame on her head. Many metal rods were interconnected in the shape of a cross, so that the metal frame looked like a barrier.

Given the durability of the metal used, the barrier formed by them would certainly be a thing to behold. It wouldn’t be easily breached, and if there was a beast who could get past through it, then it was definitely something that needed Kael’s or his direct subordinate’s attention.

"I didn’t understand back then why you wanted me to make this, but it truly is a great invention," Kiona said, marvelling at the metal frame.

"It’s a temporary measure," Kael said, before jumping off the boulder. "Let’s set it up."

Setting the metal frame wasn’t an easy task considering the rapid flow of the water and the pressure it generated, but Kiona and Kael were just in a different league altogether.

They easily managed to put the metal frames on the entrance and exit of the canal. This way, they could still get some small fishes swimming down the canal, but the powerful ones would be blocked by the barrier.

By the time it was done, the sun had already lowered itself beyond the horizon, letting darkness cover the skies. That day was new moon, so the darkness was much more powerful.

They returned to their little town and had a short celebration with a delicious meal. They really enjoyed each other’s company, and even Rias, who normally seemed so out of place that Kael even forgot about her existence a few times, was enjoying with them.

But Kael didn’t plan on going to sleep early that day. They weren’t really that exhausted that they needed rest for a whole night again. This was the benefit of Evolution—it enhanced their bodies and souls to a ridiculous extent.

But before he did anything, he still gave everyone some time to relax their minds. After all, even if they weren’t exhausted physically, their mental state was different, and a few minutes could do wonders.

Kael himself was sitting on the rooftop of his house along with the two beauties on each side. It could be said that he was the luckiest person in the world, and so many men would be envious of him.

He was aware of it, but sadly one of them was an amnesiac Demi-God from whom Kael wanted to keep some distance, at least relationship-wise.

All of them were drinking Maxo Tea, a special kind of tea which was very similar to masala chai Kael had in India. It tasted really good and came from one of the many plants growing around the Great Storm Tree.

The nourishment it provided was nothing to be scoffed at.

"I’m really confused," Kael spoke, staring at the dark starry sky. There was also a hint of moon, but it was nigh invisible. "How is the moon here so similar to Earth?"

If he wasn’t aware of the fact that he was in a different world, he would have guessed that he had somehow just time-travelled instead of transmigrated.

He had read many novels where the main character got transmigrated to a different supernatural world, only to later find out that they had just time-travelled to a future where the old world was already destroyed and rebuilt anew.

And there were clues about that from the start, like how the sun was similar in size and the day-night system was also the same. Even the days in a year would be the same.

Then, the moon was also same albeit with some disturbances in some of the novels.

Kael’s circumstances matched with all those clues, as everything here was similar to Earth, including the moon. He had observed it before, but didn’t think much of it.

Only when Rias mentioned her familiarity with the moon of every world did it make Kael suspicious. It made him have some guesses which overthrew the knowledge he knew about the cosmos from the peaceful times.

"Is it the same?" Rias asked, narrowing her eyes at the moon. "Is that the reason I find it familiar?"

"Perhaps every world has a similar moon and sun, basically the same solar system," Kael said, but even he doubted his own words.
