"Luo An, I really admire you, truly."

Mona handed Luo An a cup of coffee as they walked toward the Jacob Federation Building together, giving him a weird look before she hesitated and then asked softly:

"Do you know the specific details about the woman you played the game with last night?"

"Of course, Lydia Rush, 30 years old, manager of the Flame Queen bar. She hasn't had a boyfriend for two years since her husband died, and hasn't had a sex life either, what's up?"

Luo An tilted his head, puzzled. He had got this basic information last night by staying quite stiff and using some little tricks, then he continued:

"I remember you told me last night that she didn't have any special background."

Reesi nodded, the information Luo An obtained was correct, and indeed, Lydia, on the surface, really didn't have any background, just a local gang that would rather not mess with the FBI.

But what she wanted to talk about was not Lydia's background, but rather an issue with Lydia herself.

This woman, Lydia...

After watching Luo An greet the other agents with a spirited demeanor, Reesi shook her head and sighed.

Forget it, better let Luo An find out for himself later. It's not a big deal; she just hopes Luo An's kidneys can hold up.

"Good afternoon, Agent Luo An!"

"Hello."

"Nice moves, Agent Luo An!"

"Thank you."

Walking inside the Jacob Federation Building on the first floor, in just a dozen or so steps, three or four agents greeted Luo An. He responded with a big toothy smile, and only after he and Reesi entered the elevator did he ask with utter confusion:

"Where did all these people learn my name from?"

"There are no secrets in this building, Luo An."

Reesi took a sip of her coffee indifferently and explained:

"Last night, the news that you killed the assailant with a pen spread throughout the building in less than an hour. It's normal they know you."

Luo An: "..."

Before he could speak, the elevator arrived at the fifth-floor investigation team's level. As the elevator doors opened, a deafening round of applause entered the lift, giving Luo An quite a shock.

"Nicely done, Luo An!"

Mona, flanked by several technical agents, cheered and clapped for Luo An, while the bear-like Broson also clapped and shouted:

"Luo An, you definitely have to teach me your pen-throwing technique later! I'll cover your breakfasts for a year!"

Luo An showed a real smile upon seeing this scene, not the one with all teeth on display, and hugged each person in turn to express his thanks:

"Thank you, everyone! Last night's operation was also possible thanks to all of your support and help! I really appreciate you all!"

"Ha-ha, I knew Luo An would say something like that!"

Hearing Luo An's words, Augustus came out from behind the crowd, patted Luo An heavily on the shoulder and looked him up and down, nodding in satisfaction:

"Nicely done last night, kid. You've got some of the moves I had when I was young!"

Everyone: "....."

Luo An looked down at Augustus's big belly, smiled without saying a word, and thought to himself 'as long as he's happy'.

"Okay, okay, scatter! Back to work!"

With a broad wave of his hand, Augustus sent the agents back to their desks in the fifth investigation unit, while he took Luo An in another direction down the corridor.

Luo An, puzzled, asked:

"Where are we going?"

"We're heading to the office of the team supervisor, Virene. She's looking for you."

Augustus walked while patting his big belly, smiling at passersby and patting Agent Luo An's shoulder while answering his questions.

A sudden sense of a parent proudly presenting their child to outsiders washed over them.

"By the way, Luo An."

Halfway through their walk, Augustus suddenly grabbed Luo An's shoulder, gesturing for him to lower his head, then whispered in Luo An's ear:

"This morning's meeting, Broson was appointed by the Special Agent in Charge to be the team leader of the newly established Unit 14. You wouldn't believe how awful Broson's face looked!"

Luo An: "..."

Casting a sideways glance at a grinning Augustus, showing his back molars, Luo An didn't expect him to have a passion for gossip.

When they reached the end of the hallway, Augustus pointed to a door not far away and said:

"Vireness is inside waiting for you. Mind your words when you speak and hurry back to the office afterwards. I have something to discuss with you."

"Understood, Chief."

Watching Augustus turn and walk away, Luo An adjusted his suit and, finding nothing amiss, knocked on the office door.

"Come in."

Hearing Virene's distinctly cold voice, Luo An raised an eyebrow and calmly pushed open the door and entered.

"Good afternoon, Chief."

"Sit."

Without looking up or acknowledging Luo An, Vireness continued to write something on her desk.

Luo An didn't mind and sat down in the chair in front of Vireness's desk, silently observing his surroundings.

The office was spacious but sparsely decorated, with just a big bookshelf filled with file folders, a desk set, a chair, and a water cooler.

Not even a plant.

If it weren't for the sunlight streaming in from the south, this office was the epitome of 'oppression'.

Frowning slightly, Luo An shifted his gaze to Vireness and noted that her attire was still a wide-shouldered women's suit, which made her appear very stern.

Though it seemed her pants didn't quite match.

Thud—

Hearing the sound of a pen being tossed onto the desk, Luo An quickly moved his gaze away from Vireness.

Vireness, unconcerned, pulled out another folder and began to read emotionlessly:

"Luo An Greenwood, born on April 1st, 1981 at Boston Children's Hospital. Your father, a professor of accounting at Boston University, was killed in a street shooting when you were four. The murderer remains unknown. Your mother, a doctor at the hospital, was killed in a street shooting a week after your 18th birthday, the murderer also nowhere to be found."

At this point, Vireness looked up at Luo An, her face expressionless as she asked:

"I got that right, didn't I? Agent Luo An."

Luo An's heart skipped a beat, as he began frantically flipping through the previous occupant's memories, yet he responded without expression: "… No mistake."

Pretending to be stoic, who can't do that?

"OK."

Seeing that Luo An had no objections, Vireness continued:

"After your mother's death, you juggled part-time jobs with studying hard. Eventually, thanks to excellent grades and a letter of recommendation from your mother's colleague, you were admitted to the University of Massachusetts Boston with a major in accounting.

After graduating, you worked on Wall Street for two years, but for some unknown reason, you abruptly quit your job and entered the FBI's civilian recruitment program.

After 20 weeks of training at the FBI Academy in Virginia, you passed the final exams and became a new Intern Agent, assigned to the New York Division."

After briefly reading through Luo An Greenwood's life from birth to the present, Vireness tossed the folder aside, her hands clasped together, her face sternly fixed on Luo An's eyes as she demanded sharply:

"The FBI training academy's report never mentioned you having exquisite Throwing Skill! Tell me, where did you learn this?"

Luo An: "…"
