Legendary Librarian System-Chapter 114: Fatesworn Oath
Liu Wei frowned and instantly asked, "But the Alchemy Association is aware that it is still alive and doing well below."
The Crown Prince nodded, "But they are not aware of how vicious that golden chick is. They are indebted to it after being rewarded with the Grand Pill Furnace, which symbolized their association. Furthermore, the golden chick promised many benefits of continued support towards its healing, to the point that even if we tell, we might only jeopardize our family."
Liu Wei nodded.
He replied, "It all makes sense now. Then, if that’s the case, the Alchemy Association should be attempting to persuade me to join them, then."
The Crown Prince shook his head.
He replied, "The Master Alchemist of this generation is a promising man. He always knows what’s best. Perhaps, he might be able to convince the golden chick to leave you be."
Liu Wei was suspicious. He asked, "Are you sure?"
The Crown Prince nodded. "I certainly am. He is the president for nothing. Aren’t you aware that there is always an internal dispute in the Alchemy Association? Especially in the seat of the president?"
Liu Wei shrugged. "I am not that interested."
The Crown Prince nodded. He said, "Figures. Because mysteriously, whenever an alchemist becomes a president, they suddenly have the ability to concoct Saint grade pills even if it was far from being pure.
As though the seat would help them attain the Master Alchemist that every alchemist in the Mortal Domain sought for."
Liu Wei’s eyes widened.
He asked, "Why do you think that’s the case?"
The Crown Prince shrugged. "From everybody’s knowledge, it’s because of the Grand Pill Furnace. But, from the Senior Alchemist, they speculated there is more to it."
Liu Wei contemplated for a while and said, "Well, it can only be because of the Grand Pill Furnace. You said it, they were able to produce Saint grade pills, but far from being pure. It just shows that the alchemist’s ability is lacking but what carries them is the grade of the furnace."
The Crown Prince nodded.
He shrugged once again and replied, "Well, we can’t deny the fact that the Master Alchemist might be hiding something."
Liu Wei shrugged but did not dwell on it too much.
He glanced at Xuan Bo and asked, "By the way, is it really okay for him to know? That’s your family’s deepest secret, right?"
The Crown Prince merely smiled and replied, "Well, if you only know that his ancestor made a pact to be loyal to our family, you’d change your mind."
Liu Wei was surprised. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Pact?"
The Crown Prince nodded. "It’s an oath, also called Fatesword Oath. Once you make an oath, your fate is bound to the oath. There are some, like his ancestor, who made an oath that even his entire future generations are bound into it."
Liu Wei was surprised.
He asked, "Who could be the eyewitness? There should be someone, who could move a fate, right?"
The Crown Prince nodded.
"It’s the spirit of the Mortal Domain, or I like to call it. Some called it simply "the heaven.""
Liu Wei finally understood. If the spirit of the Mortal Domain, or the heaven itself, was the eyewitness of an oath, then he would have indeed the power to move one’s fate.
Liu Wei, "Can you tell me how it works?"
The Crown Prince nodded.
"I’ll simply tell, not show, or else I’ll be swearing an oath."
Liu Wei chuckled.
"You can try it by using our agreement before. No harm in it."
The Crown Prince was taken aback. He simply smiled and shook his head.
He said, "I promise myself not to ever since I discovered the Fatesworn Oath."
Liu Wei nodded. "That’s fine."
The Crown Prince said, "Fatesworn Oath is a binding contract recognized by the entire domain."
"First you start with the gesture, also called the Bowing the Mortal Thread.
You raised your right hand with your palm open and relaxed your fingers. It symbolized a life unhidden.
Then place your left hand over your heart, acknowledging the mortal’s responsibility.
Then bow your head until it aligns with the right hand, and this symbolizes that you are presenting your Mortal Thread to the spirit of the domain.
This Bowing the Mortal Thread is recognized across the domain as an act of surrendering one’s fate to witness."
Liu Wei nodded, listening carefully.
The Crown Prince continued, "Then, comes the Invocation Sentence. The following exact spoken line will direct the Spirit of the Mortal Domain, who accepts as the beginning of a Fatesworn Oath.
You will say, "I place my fate beneath your gaze." After that line, you will state your oath. Your fate henceforth will depend on the weight of your oath. It can even affect your future generation and your family as long as your wife agrees to make an oath."
The Crown Prince was silent for a while, observing Liu Wei’s reaction.
Liu Wei was staring at him with an ambiguous expression, seemingly listening carefully.
He continued, "Afterwards, the spirit only binds what comes after the invocation. Once recognized, the spirit of the Mortal Domain reacts by making the air momentarily still, a faint tremor passes through the earth or ground beneath the oath-giver, and a thin silver thread (visible to cultivators and even faintly to mortals) flickers around your wrist or heart. That thread is the Fatesworn Mark, which will vanish from sight after a moment, but remains bound in the fabric of fate."
Liu Wei asked, "What will happen if the Oath is broken?"
The Crown Prince smiled and nodded.
"When you violate the vow, the silver thread becomes rusted black in the realm of fate. The Mortal Domain seizes a portion of your destiny. So, misfortunes, karmic backlash, or immediate spiritual deterioration occurs depending on the weight of the vow.
It is called "Reclaiming of Fate."
He then turned his head and glanced at Xuan Bo who kept his face solemn and faced forward, not daring to meet the Crown Prince’s gaze.
He said, "In their case, their whole bloodline, even the future generation, will suffer from misfortunes and karmic backlash, potentially ending their bloodline."
He then glanced at Liu Wei and smiled widely.
He said, "Of course, after the second king received a Fatesword loyalty of his ancestor, he assured them that they would not regret it. They have been given a title of duke and at the same time to serve us, the royal family, directly, receiving prioritized royal education."
