Tiara became more proficient in using the sigils of the Spirit Realm. One of the spirits even approached her and wanted to form a contract with her. It was a small elemental spirit, but it seemed drawn to Tiara.

"I feel bad for rejecting it," the elf said after Arthur told her she shouldn't form a contract with the spirit. "Can I not have more than one spirit?"

"You can, but spirits have requirements as well," Arthur said while staring at the small blue orb next to Tiara. It seemed like a water spirit that had wandered from a nearby lake. "Stronger spirits would require more spiritual energy. You shouldn't waste yours on weaker spirits."

"I feel that's too harsh and mean," Tiara said.

"Other seekers will form a contract with it. You are not abandoning it or anything," Arthur said with a shrug. "You can make your own choices, Tiara. But don't forget who we will be fighting soon."

Tiara was silent, remembering her uncle and their dreadful meeting. She patted the spirit and shook her head, expressing her reasons for rejecting it. The spirit gave a soft hum before leaving them.

"You made the right choice," Arthur said. "A stronger spirit will not only help you fight inside the Spirit Realm but in our world as well. If you find a spirit that is best suited for your abilities, it will greatly improve your fighting capabilities."

"I'm not a fighter, and you know that."

"Maybe that's what you should look for, then," Arthur said. "Your astral being is the only fighting power you have, right?"

"It is."

"That means a portion of your spiritual energy is already bound to it," Arthur said with a nod. "You need to find a spirit that empowers you personally, too. A shield would be nice."

Tiara was silent and nodded. The two of them resumed their journey through the desert, where more abyssal spirits appeared. Arthur had to intervene when a group of black scorpions appeared, too powerful for Tiara to handle.

Chains appeared around his golden body, filled with unbridled energy. Unlike the docile nature of normal spirits, abyssal spirits seemed more eager to attack Arthur than anyone else. It might be his status as the First Seeker or simply his alluring spiritual energy.

"How come they are so big?" Tiara asked as she floated away from the scorpions. "Their spiritual energy is higher as well."

"It seems that being in a group helped them kill other spirits and survive until growing this much," Arthur said. "Abyssal spirits can feed on other spirits and seekers as well."

"What happens if we die here?"

"Soul death or irrecoverable soul damage," Arthur said as his chains floated around him. The scorpions rushed toward him, using their stingers to attack. Arthur used his chains to strike the ground, propelling himself toward the sky.

The scorpions clashed with one another, almost hurting their comrades with their stingers. As they tried to sort through the confusion, chains rained down like whips. Each chain killed one of the scorpions, but some of them were not harmed.

"What is happening to them?" Tiara asked as she descended at the same time Arthur landed on the ground. She was referring to some scorpions who began growing bigger. "It seems like…"

"Like they are feeding on my spiritual energy," Arthur muttered with a sigh. "My control is too weak, and I was not able to maintain control over all of my energy. It ended up empowering them instead."

The scorpions, now shining with a golden color, rushed toward them at the same time. Arthur sighed as his chains whipped out again. The scorpions managed to survive the first attack and sent hurling stingers toward them.

Arthur did not have sufficient control to stop the stingers at the same time, and some of them aimed for Tiara. In a rash moment, he decided to unleash a portion of his spiritual energy.

A dam opened, and the world exploded. Spiritual energy so thick that you could taste it burst out of him like a wave. It pushed everything, including Tiara, back. The stingers were obliterated, and so were the scorpions.

Arthur realized his mistake early and sent a chain to coil around Tiara, keeping her safe and anchored to him. The wave of destruction ended as Arthur stopped releasing his spiritual energy. Once it did, he witnessed its aftermath.

"I shouldn't have done that," Arthur said with a sigh. The landscape within a hundred meters around them was flattened, wiped out. Arthur was at the center with Tiara being pulled by the chains. The sand began to shift to refill the places it left bare. A sinkhole appeared, and Arthur needed to leave in a hurry before being dragged down.

"That was rather scary," Tiara said as the two of them reached a jagged mountain filled with crystals. "I thought I would be wiped out as well."

"I'm sorry," Arthur said with a sigh. "Mana is easier to control than spiritual energy because it's limited. I feel like a single door holding back an ocean," he admitted. "Even if I try to let a small portion inside, the ocean pushes through and I have no control."

"I'm just glad I was blown away," Tiara said. "But this time… I didn't faint, so that's a lot of progress."

Arthur realized that she was right. He used less spiritual energy when opening the portal to the Spirit Realm, but she didn't faint after receiving the full blast of his spiritual energy.

"Can you even faint inside this place?"

"I would guess so, since we woke up like this," Tiara pointed, to which Arthur nodded in agreement. "I saw something else when I was above. It seems there is a group of seekers on the other side of the desert."

"What does that have to do with us?" asked Arthur in confusion.

"It seems they are fighting among themselves, and some of them were using abyssal spirits," Tiara said. "We can help them along the way."

Arthur nodded and the two rose to see what was happening. They rushed over the sand, using Tiara's ability to float, and crossed some dunes to find the ongoing battle. Blasts of spiritual energy made the entire desert vibrate.

"The battle is ending," Arthur noted. "Let's float for a little and see how it goes. Can you take us above them?"

Tiara nodded and raised her hand toward him. Arthur felt his body grow lighter as they began to float above the battlefield. After her spiritual energy increased, Tiara could let him float for longer periods of time.

The two of them watched the battle reach its end from above, not jumping into action without understanding the situation. As Tiara had noted while in the sky during the fight against the scorpions, one side was using abyssal spirits.

"This shouldn't be possible," Arthur explained. "Abyssal spirits refuse to contract seekers. This is what made them enter the abyssal layer in the first place, so how did they manage to do that?"

Arthur could see the group using abyssal spirits defeating the last seeker in the group. All spirits that the seekers contracted perished, leaving them surrounded and helpless.

"Who are you people?" a seeker among the crowd shouted, who seemed to be the leader of the group. He addressed the five seekers with abyssal spirits. "How did you obtain such powers?"

"That's none of your concern," said one of the enemies, who was a burly red man with a demonic mask on his head. "You have two choices now, to either join us or perish."

Arthur watched the two with a sudden realization. Every seeker inside the Spirit Realm lacked the perception of spiritual energy. These two didn't even feel Arthur floating in the sky above them, which proved that they too lacked any form of technique to perceive spiritual energy.

The Spirit Sovereign was right about Arthur needing to train his spiritual energy, because he was just like any other seeker, except with infinite reserve. The two sides seemed to reach a deadlock as the abyssal spirit users rushed to attack the others.

"Drop me," Arthur said.

Tiara didn't question him and released her spiritual energy. Arthur began falling from the sky as countless chains appeared around his body. However, he dismissed all except for one chain.

"I need to control this too, otherwise I'm nothing but a time bomb," Arthur muttered as he fell to the ground. The abyssal spirits rushed to attack the victims, but Arthur arrived in time.

Chaos ensued as the chains destroyed the abyssal spirits with a touch, bringing their users to the ground in pain. The tides turned as Arthur landed on the ground. The one left standing was the leader of the abyssal spirit users, who seemed more capable than others.

"Who are you?!" asked the abyssal leader, rushing forward regardless. His giant frame expanded as flames appeared from his body. Arthur realized his ability as flames engulfed him.

A chain whipped in every direction, freezing the flames. Arthur rushed forward and grabbed the man by the head and brought him crashing to the ground. However, he didn't kill him, but placed a foot over his chest.

"I have some questions for you."
